That moustache/hair combo...man I miss the early 90's. Joe Diffie was a staple in my uncle's garage. It was so cool growing up in upstate NY with an uncle from Tennessee who was a truck driver. Not that people around here don't like country, but it felt more authentic.

Wow. This thread. Wow.
Much respect, sir. A freaking Joe Diffie thread in Freakin Awesome Network. That deserves ... something.

Anyone who met all his wives in traffic jams is A-OK in my book.

"Pickup Man" was one of my favorite songs as a kid. Being real young at the time the meaning of it flew right over my head.

...well, now I need to go listen to "Third Rock From The Sun" and see how much of the lyrics I can remember.

Story time. Maybe 8 years ago or so, My girlfriend (who is my wife now), her mom and myself were at the fair. Joe Diffie was playing that night at the fair. My mother in law loves Joe Diffie. She figured that I would not want to go into the grandstands at the fair to watch him since I am a punk/metal guy. I eventually ask her if she wants to go watch him. She was shocked. I told her after playing so many shows with so many bad bands in my life, I can definitely sit through a bit of Joe (who actually does not bother me at all).
We go into the grandstands. It is right before he is about to play. We find an open seat about 3 rows from the top. Joe comes on. Starts out guns a blazing with 3rd Rock from the Sun. To his credit, him and his band sound really good together and you can tell they are having fun. He follows it up with two more songs right away without stopping. They are vaguely familiar to me so they must have been pretty popular. After the third song, he starts doing the normal cheap pop type stuff with the crowd. At one point, I stand up and yell as loud as I can "I love you Joe Diffie!". My timing was excellent. My voice easily carried during the silent moment from the crowd and Joe Diffie. Joe responds, "I love you too man". My mother in laws face turns bright red in embarrassment. All of the old farmers are looking around me in disgust. I sit back down. He starts up his next batch of songs. My mother in laws turns to my wife and states, "I have seen enough, we can go now if you want". We leave.
Needless to say, my mother in law is still embarrassed about it. Even as a non-country guy, I was pretty impressed by Joe as he sounded great and was clearly not phoning it in.

I was a huge country fan growing up in the early '90s and loved Joe Diffie. This give me the opportunity to vent about something that's bugged me for years. The version of "John Deere Green" they played on the radio was completely different than the one on the Honky Tonk Attitude album. I don't think it's ever been released on CD and I haven't heard it since it originally came out. I've been tempted to but a 45 vinyl of it on eBay as it is shorter than the album version, but I don't know if it is the radio version or an edit of the album version.
