Been looking forward to this review, always had a soft spot for Popeye. I think the Robin Williams movie was one of the first movies I ever saw.
The comic seemed ok. Not bad, but nothing that would make someone who already isn't a fan of Popeye think "I need to keep up with this". I think the biggest problem is it tried to put Popeye in modern (then the 80's) times. Popeye should never be contemporary. He works best around the World War II era, possibly into the 60's. But no, not the 80's.
So does anybody know if "Ocean Comics" published any more of these? I'm curious to see how Popeye's Moms quest to bring Roller Derby to Zaire turned out.

They did one more that introduced Olive Oyl and also established the Bluto/Brutus thing being brothers...as well as a comic that had Popeye and Olive actually getting married. That's all I could find on Wikipedia.
