I'm a Fallout noob, so I haven't played the ones before 3.
I'd rank them:
1. Fallout 3: Favourite setting. 2. Fallout 4: Didn't like the new dialogue or levelling up systems, but still enjoyed it a lot. 3. Fallout: New Vegas: Fun game when it worked. Best companions.

Voted for 1 but 1,2, and tactics ruled my life growing up, I killed 2 modems with 2 and tactics.
A lot of people don't like the originals based off of the turn based combat and the graphics but once you get the hang of it it almost like chess. They also require a lot more thinking because every decision you make has a consequence. The newer ones, while I do love, just don't have that same feeling as the originals.

Nothing wrong with 1 & 2, but 3 is my favourite by a long way.

The seed. Blew my mind. Made me realize how awful it was to have missed the evolution of computer games.

New Vegas combines the heart of the old games with the gameplay of the new. Old World Blues is the best DLC this side of the Shivering Isles.
Haven't gotten through Fallout 4 yet, but I suspect my vote at the end will be New Vegas.

Fallout 4 by virtue of it being the only one I have played.

Fallout 3 is my 2nd favourite game ever, (after Mass Effect 2.) So that.

Fallout New Vegas.
Sure Fallout 4 is great ,but it lacks the role playing feel ,that door opens and closes depending of your character and your different choices.
