I started a diet this week. I am in a weight loss competition at work. I am the classic used to not be so fat athletic fat guy. I haven't gone over 1500 calories per day, and would probably average closer to 1200. It was a struggle for like two days, but I would say I am already used to it. Either that or I have developed an eating disorder pretty quickly.
I keep track of my walking at work. I average 5 miles and about 790 calories burned per day, I would like to add more to that, but our spare room with the work out equipment needs cleaned out. So I did like 125 crunches and some leg lifts instead. I am not good at New Years Resolutions, but I am pretty good at being competitive so I figured this competition at work was the perfect way to make the changes.

Last year I started going to Zumba classes 4 times a week because I have nothing better to do. As the months went by, more of the girls in my class started talking to me, telling me I slimmed down. This pleases me.

Yes.
I've completely given up soda, candy, fast food and any other junk I was eating.

I know you are in a competition to lose the most but that is super low for the amount of activity you are doing. I would eat 1500-1800. If you are doing five miles and eating well, you will drop in no time. Lift some weights and that will help drop fat. But that is too low. Very difficult to maintain once the competition is over if you want to keep losing weight. But also good luck.

I've gained a little bit of weight recently due to medications I started taking. They've not only made it impossible to NOT gain weight, they've also seemingly made it impossible to lose it. I even switched to only one meal per day and I still find that I'm gaining weight. So now my plan is to quit the medicine cold turkey and try and find some time to exercise. I teach now, so that's easier said that done because I just want to zone out and be lazy when I'm home from school. But I did buy a FitBit, so I should be dropping weight like crazy at any moment now.
Basically I make a lot of excuses.

I figured I wasn't just dieting but making a lifestyle change. I have a friend who was 300 plus pounds he did 12-1500 and like two years later has maintained it.
Also that sucks when meds so that to you.

After buying digital scales because I no longer trusted the accuracy of my mechanical scales I discovered on January 1st I weighed 304lbs, and not somewhere in the 270s.
I now weigh 290lbs, just from making more of an effort to exercise, as my diet was already pretty good. My target is 200lbs by November.

My weight fluctuates so I don't even bother to worry about it. It's quick too, I can gain or lose like 20 pounds in a week. It just depends on what I happen to be eating I think.

I'm still working on it. Was 252 pounds a few years back, currently around 195. My current goal is to comfortably get into a Brock Lesnar shirt I got a few years ago, and I'm getting closer.
I tend eat relatively healthy due to being a student, just get meat from the local butchers, veg from the grocers and make all my own stuff, and go to the gym daily. Did two hours straight high intensity cardio yesterday, felt god afterwards. Although now I feel like an arthritic old man.

Hired a Personal trainer for 8 sessions and joined 24 hour fitness. Hoping to get down to 300. That's a good weight for being 6'8 Or at least change it from day to muscle to help the wrestling career.

When I first started working out I was around 252 pounds. I'm at 175 now and feel so much happier, more confident and positive.

I've lost over 20 pounds since last spring by cutting out soda and fast food, and cooking my own food at home instead of going out.

Diets really are something that you can get used to almost out of habit. I have actually been trying to put ON mass over the past few months and once you find a certain diet or eating pattern, it almost becomes second nature. That and just generally being in a positive mood. Once I had certain stressful factors in my life go away, I wanted to work out all the time.

I have actually been trying to put ON mass over the past few months and once you find a certain diet or eating pattern, it almost becomes second nature. That and just generally being in a positive mood. Once I had certain stressful factors in my life go away, I wanted to work out all the time. That's the second part. If I can drop major fat weight I wanna hit the weights again and get ripped. But baby steps I definitely suggest hitting the weights before you've dropped too much fat. If you lose too much mass too quickly you end up with a loose skin situation, so steadily replacing the fat with muscle is always better than losing the fat and building muscle mass afterwards.
