Yes, yes, the two fighting game giants. The guys who everybody follow.
Which who you prefer?

SNK by far. Not that I don't like Capcom stuff.

Where is both as an option?
Overall I prefer Street Fighter as a series but I am perfectly happy playing any of the SNK games.
Quick top of my head list of fighting games franchises I like
1. SF 2. KoF 3. Soul Calibur 4. Mortal Kombat 5. MvC
No Tekken because it always feels really stiff and I still can't fathom why they haven't introduced the 8 way walking of Soul Calibur

I love both, but I have to give the slight edge to Capcom.
And really, it's 1. Capcom, 2. SNK, and like, Namco or ASW in a very distant third. Really looking forward to both SF5 and KOF14.

I haven't played many of SNK's games, but they tend to feature utterly gorgeous sprite work, and generally feel like a full package rather than the absolute barebones that they can legally sell as a game, which is what Street Fighter degenerated into.

I like both Capcom and SNK, but I played a lot more Capcom fighters than SNK. I give the slight edge to Capcom. Though, I will say this: Neo Geo Battle Coliseum is what Capcom Fighting Evolution should have been. It is that game done right.

I still like SF, but I have gotten tired of this notion of bringing out fifty versions of the same game with an added piece of content here and there. Like SFV will probably have 6 interations before they move to VI.
That alone makes me pick SNK.

Only really played KOF '98, and the new one looks like a bad joke (still wanna try it, though).

I adore both, but I grew up on Capcom in general, especially Street Fighter. I also like their lore better, not saying KOF's isn't good itself.

I prefer the gameplay in Capcom fighters, but I like SNK's characters a tad more. The KOF designs always felt more "stylish", or at least more fashionable and down-to-earth than the wacky and stereotypical SF cast (not that I don't enjoy the SF cast as well, big part of my childhood)
If I had to rank my fav series:
1) Street Fighter 2) King of Fighters 3) Tekken 4) Guilty Gear 5) The Marvel vs. series 6) Skullgirls 7) Soul Calibur 8) Virtua Fighter 9) Mortal Kombat (I don't really *dislike* it, but I suck at NetherRealm games. Let's put it like this: I'm so bad I make your average MK scrub look like SonicFox.) 10) Dead Or Alive

Street Fighter is one of the few things Capcom hasn't screwed up over the years.
Or at least not to the degree that they did with things like Mega Man.
I never really had enough exposure to SNK to formulate an informed opinion of any of their games.

Got to go with Capcom on this, Street Fighter 2 is iconic, I still remember heading up to the corner store to play it after school and was the reason I bought a SNES. Not that the SNK games were bad by any means, I loved the KOF tag team element and the zooming they had on many of their fighting games, it is just SF2 could easily make someones top ten list of games, and I can't go that far with Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, or the KOF series.

I prefer playing Street Fighter, but King of Fighters had often more interesting character designs.

I haven't played many of SNK's games, but they tend to feature utterly gorgeous sprite work, and generally feel like a full package rather than the absolute barebones that they can legally sell as a game, which is what Street Fighter degenerated into. SNK actually did this with KOF12. It was an incomplete, barebones mess of a broken game. And the data on the game's disc suggested it could've been much more, including an entire roster's worth of missing characters. I think it's because the new HD character sprites were so expensive to make that it got to the point where they had to put out something or risk going out of business again. It more or less functions now as KOF13's beta test that happened to cost the same as a full-price game at release. And KOF13 is very much a worthy game. But given how expensive and time-consuming it is to do HD fully 2D sprites with frames of animation worth a damn, especially for a fighting game by a fairly small game company, it shouldn't come to any surprise why SNK is going 2.5D for KOF14.

In terms of gameplay, I prefer capcom. I like the shorter combos more than the KoF monsters.
In terms of creativity, SNK knocks it out of the park.

I give SNK credit. They can churn out some fantastic character designs.
