Being that it's the only show in the Law & Order franchise that is still running, as the other ones have ended, or were cancelled, I wonder how they could close off the show in the future. I mean the original L&O had a 20-year run, with Criminal Intent having had a 10-year run. Both shows had long runs, and SVU is still going strong. Do you think it could last the same amount of time as the original series did? Also, if it were to end, would you want Stabler to come back and appear? I know Christopher Meloni is doing other stuff and wanted to move on, but the only people who are still around from the beginning, or close to it, are Mariska Hargitay and Ice-T. It's still getting ratings, but you know what they say, all good things must come to an end, at least at some point.

Is it even possible to write an ending for a show like this that wraps up everything?
I imagine it will just be cancelled without much fanfare.

Wow, SVU is the only one still on? Law and Order have been a television staple forever, its weird to imagine no more Law and Order at some point.

Or maybe Dick Wolf might produce another show in the franchise. I remember that there were connected shows in the franchise like New York Undercover and Homicide. Of course it's been so long since those shows were on.

After the jumbled mess that was law & order: los angelos, I'm sure there won't be a spin off for a bit.

Swerve bros, Stabler comes back and he's a heel. Ice-T puts his hair back in a bun, only to take it out of a bun, and David Arquette pins Mariska Hargitay to win all of New York City.

I think it will just end. Maybe Benson gets a great job offer from the Feds to do what she does for the SVU on a national scale and rides off into the sunset.

It turns out that it was all in John Munch's head.

Something they've never done: A full season where Benson isn't in danger.

Bring in Sipowicz from NYPD Blue as new captain but he falls off the wagon and the department is rampant with corruption,Police Brutality and just general hijinks until everyone gets suspended and Ice T returns to pimping or rapping you know whatever comes first

Prostitution, rape and child kidnapping is legalized, and the precinct is launched into outer space - the entire last episode is just 40 minutes of the cast (present and past) painfully dying.

Part of me thinks there could be something to a Stabler return/heel turn in the series finale. Turns out his aggressive nature towards sex offenders was him over compensating for his own sick desires. And now Benson has to take him down.

It probably will end the same way as L&O: Original Recipe... with a bog-standard season finale that kinda sorta offers some closure but doesn't wrap up nearly enough. Of course, that's all because Dick Wolf died, as we remember, after his dick was eaten by wolves.

I'd have to think either Mariska Hargitay's Character dies or retires. One of the two.

Someone finally exposes the rampant corruption and incompetence in SVU and drives all of the old guard out?
That or Stabler's daughter turns up raped and murdered and he comes back now as a serial killer hunting down all rapists everywhere for revenge, leading to a dramatic staredown where he and Benson kill each other.

I don't think the show is going to end until Mariska Hargitay decides she's finished making episodes and decides to move on to something else. But the show has coasted along for such a long time that I don't expect that to be anytime soon.
