RAW is live from Miami, coming off one of the better Royal Rumble events of the past several years, with a lot of talking points.
Roman Reigns did not survive "all" in his bid to make history, as WWE's COO Triple H returned as #30 and eliminated him, and then Dean Ambrose to win his 14th WWE World Heavyweight Championship, his first in seven years. Vince McMahon said a few weeks ago that HHH would return when Reigns "least expected it". The Rumble should really have been an obvious place for that, but still. How will the Authority gloat over the new champion, and how will Reigns react?
Whilst #30 was the lucky number, the majority of people are talking about the man who entered the Rumble at #3. After years in TNA, and dominating in both New Japan and Ring of Honor, "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles finally arrived in WWE. Styles lasted a long time in the match, before he was finally eliminated by Kevin Owens. Will the Phenomenal One make a bigger statement tonight on his first appearance on RAW?
The elimination of Styles was a brief glimmer of glory for Kevin Owens last night. Owens lost his Last Man Standing match with Dean Ambrose for the Intercontinental Championship, and then during the Rumble match, a ghost of his past returned to haunt him, as Sami Zayn returned to the main roster, and eliminated Owens. It's not like Owens to accept that as the last word of his rivalry with Zayn, so it seems certain Owens will seek revenge tonight, if Zayn is there, that is.
Brock Lesnar caused carnage, hitting at least 10 suplexes throughout his appearance in the Rumble match. However, he didn't count on the Wyatt Family ganging up on him. It took every member, even with Harper, Rowan and Strowman already eliminated, to beat down The Beast Incarnate and eliminate him. Wyatt has a track record of targeting a huge name in the build to WrestleMania (though it's not worked out for him once he gets there), will things work differently with Lesnar?
The hot potato that is the United States Championship bounced around again, as Kalisto regained the title from Alberto Del Rio. Whilst Kalisto celebrated, it didn't take long for Del Rio to refocus, as he returned to beat down Roman Reigns alongside the League of Nations during the Rumble match. Will Del Rio try again at Kalisto, or is that it between them, and can Kalisto get past one TV show without losing the title?
Becky Lynch must be ruing the existence of Ric Flair, as he proved the X-Factor once again in his daughter Charlotte retaining the Divas Championship, throwing his jacket onto Lynch as she had Charlotte in the Disarmher. After the match, Charlotte thought she had an old ally back in the form of Sasha Banks, who made her return after injury. However, Banks gave Charlotte the Bank Statement, and let her know she's coming after the title. Does this mean Sasha's broken away from Team BAD?
All this, plus The New Day still being Tag Champions, complete with Francesca 2, from 8/7c on USA, followed by the première episode of Ride Along on the WWE Network!
