He was uncredited on Lord of the Rings, mainly doing "between" work, which is essentially the grunt work in animation, as opposed to key frames, which you get a better look at, and which is the work of more experienced or prestigious animators, usually. Burton storyboarded, animated, and did concept art at Disney, for films like Fox and the Hound and Black Cauldron, before being fired and moving on to direct live action.

If we keep on the technical theme then I suggest this 1973 Hovis bread advert, directed by some bloke called Ridley Scott:

Sissy Spacek was set dresser for "The Phantom of the Paradise", that rock'n'roll musical with Paul Williams as the Devil (she set up each set for filming, laying out the props, etc.).
Kim "Sex in the City" Cattrell starred in the firat "Police Academy" movie, and had a part in a made-for-TV movie called "Good Against Evil", which was an attempt to make "Rosemary's Baby" into a series (?).
Suzanne Somers appears topless in the second Dirty Harry movie, "Magnum Force".

David Spade's first film role was in Police Academy 4. Also, while he didnt star in it, Tony Hawk was also consultant for the skateboarding scenes.

My favourite obscure one is Tina Fey (as well as future 30 Rock co-star Scott Adsit) doing voiceover work for the Medieval Madness pinball machine back in 1997. Good grief. Thumbs up for that. I usually keep up on stuff, but I never knew that. Niiiiiice one.

Bryan Cranston was in a few advertisements such as one for Preparation H and did voice over work for a few of Saban's 1990's properties including a stint as a monster of the week on the first season of Power Rangers. Wasn't he Pudgy Pig? Snizzard, I believe.

I'm still not sure how Joseph Gordon-Levitt went from "Fifth banana on 3rd Rock From The Sun" to the current megastar he is. He was in "Angels in the Outfield" before "3rd Rock from the Sun."

Seth Green was in a Nerf commercial And an even earlier Pudding Roll-ups ad. Also Jack Black was in the ad for Pitfall!
