I got an email from a top executive in my company this morning. Subject line was "win tickets to the big game". I open it, and it says that because we did so well in 2015, management is running a contest for airfare, hotel, and tickets for two to the Super Bowl. I already know my company is a bunch of cheapos, so I check and make sure it was in fact from the actual guy. It was, so I clicked the entry link, and a window popped up, basically saying "this was a phishing exercise, here's how you should have spotted it." Really started my day on a sour note.

That's not a "Test". That's more like entrapment.
I completely understand how a bunch of people in a boardroom would think this a great idea on paper, but it seems like a dick move. Groupthink is funny like that.

I'd be sending so many emails to that guy as "phishing exercises."
Also, see if you can find his personal email and sign both emails up for so many porn sites.

I've gotten those type of emails at my office... only they usually aren't from official email addresses.

If run into his office and go full Sandman on him. Beer, Singapore cane, Metallica, the works.
Cigarette is optional, though.

Patronising and egotistical on his and the company's part. Pretty dickish.

That will hurt morale quite a lot. It might actually be better for the board to actually award two tickets after all.

If he was going to do it, he needed to do it from an alternate look-alike e-mail and the e-mail needed to be more generic. That's way too specific for a phishing e-mail. Just a dick move, not an exercise.

That doesn't even work as a phishing exercise. The actual company sending bullshit e-mails isn't phishing. That's kind of the whole point of phishing: someone pretending to be a company to gain personal information. If you're the actual company then it's not phishing and you're not going to teach your employees to avoid phishing by sending them mail from their own employer.
I don't think it's much of a dick move though. It's more stupid than really dickish. It hits a 5 on the dick-o-meter to me.

next time the company send you anything by e-mail just ignore it no matter how important it is, just tell them you are unable to trust the source in case it's a scam.

If you get any sort of email from him in the future that you don't want to deal with, delete it and explain that you didn't want to risk reading it because you know that email address has a history of phishing.

Forward all phishing emails to them from now on so they can check them and to make sure you don't get tricked in the future
