Most of my Circuit Citys were bought out and transformed into hhgreggs (which is based in Indianapolis), which are still going strong.

Retail stores really make no sense now.
Also, the last few brand relaunches haven't worked out well (Service Merchandise, Crazy Eddie, The Wiz, etc...)

There's an abandoned Circuit City here in Vegas that still has the signage up. Retail stores really make no sense now. Also, the last few brand relaunches haven't worked out well (Service Merchandise, Crazy Eddie, The Wiz, etc...) I don't know about anyone else, but I hate waiting for shipping when online shopping.

IM a prime member so I have 2 day shipping guaranteed, but yes I hate waiting. I also have developed hatred of going to stores though. It's so chaotic here. I miss going to small Kmarts or Wal marts before the Superstores. as for the relaunches I guess business are just as susceptible to nostalgia as everyone else now. JNCO is back...If you can believe that nonsense.

I worked for Circuit City one holiday season about a decade ago. Worst job I ever had and the store was just horribly run. They make you sit through hours of classes to learn how to "upsell" and try to get people to take out insurance on $5 DVD's, but they won't sit you down and teach you how to use the goddamn cash register and you have to learn it as you go. They didn't even have a computerized database system to see what items you stocked, you had to go through a giant ass paper book to look and see if we even carried the Michael Buble DVD that some old bitty was asking about. How in the world do you convince people to come in and buy your high end electronics when your own store is being run by the best technology that 1972 has to offer?

Ok, I really did not expect to see Lechmere or Service Merchandise mentions in this thread.... Can I also name drop Caldor & Bradlees and get a "what WHAT"?

For all of the "Amazon showroom" comments that could be made, retail stores actually do work well if you use them for that. It can be helpful to try out a laptop or a phone in a store to see if it's right for you before buying from Amazon. As far as like, actually buying something in store? My general rule is: "If it's anything above $20 or if it's something I could get cheaper online, buy online" which tends to happen a lot nowadays.
