I saw the ad for Fast Lane and read a lot of the reactions to it and I reach a point where I'm questioning my own aversion to Eva Marie.
She's really harmless. No really, she's pretty much just there.
I know there were rumors that she would be pushed to the moon and all that, and I know that, if she WAS pushed to the moon with the in-ring skills that she has, I wouldn't ask the question.
But all she does right now is being eye candy, work Total Divas and show up on NXT in increasingly meaningless spots. I'd say she's used properly. Plus, I'm surprised to see she's 31 years old, so I'm not sure they will put that many eggs in the basket of a 30+ years old who can barely wrestle.
So, why the hate?

Despite being with the company for years, she doesn't contribute to the program in any meaningful way. Girls like Becky, Sasha and Bayley sucked at first, but worked hard and got better. Eva Marie has just hung around doing nothing, yet is still employed. She only just recently started trying worth a damn to get better, and that was after other women worked their ass off to make women's wrestling mean something in WWE. She's seemingly only around because of Total Divas, or something *extra* she is doing backstage.

Same reason most people don't care for say, The Ascension.
They're just not particularly good at anything.

Well she's there for a reason. Being good at wrestling and sports entertainment isn't it.

She's 31. Chances are that she will only get marginally better (if that even comes to pass), so there's very little reason to invest in somebody with such a low ceiling.
I don't hate her by any means, but outside of being really attractive, there just isn't anything there.

or something *extra* she is doing backstage. Eurgh. Let's not, shall we? I totally get why people aren't fans of her, I was the same at first but with her training and her now being in DEVELOPMENTAL I'm completely fine with it. She's never going to be Daniel Bryan in the ring or Jake Roberts on the mic but she is an absolute heat machine. I think she's really starting to come into her own on NXT valeting Nia Jax. She's a woman who was hired specifically for Total Divas and if you ask people who are primarily Total Divas fans and don't watch wrestling (and there appears to be a fair amount) then she's quite well loved in that fanbase.

They do not fit their gimmick, they look like a cheap Road Warriors rip-off. And they WERE pushed in NXT and on the main roster for a short time, which is how I started disliking them because nothing about them was worthy of that spot. But Eva Marie's spot, if we can call it that, is mostly being on Total Divas and when you think about it, that's a totally fine spot for her!

She's been employed since 2013 and held her job simply because she was on Total Divas. She did nothing relating to wrestling until after almost two years. Even with the personal one on one training, she is still incredibly bad to the point where it hurts to even watch her perform. Outside of Rosa Mendes, she is the worst female wrestler I may have ever seen. (I'm not counting girls like BB or the Kat, who were in an era where matches were mostly just ripping off clothes.) Her acting is bad, her wrestling is bad, her promos are bad. There is literally nothing about the girl that is worth anything.

She represents the ghost of divas division's past. The Total Divas part that some very vocal fans don't want anymore now that the horsewomen are around. Just like the Bellas.
That's why.

I'm thinking, not that I want to encourage them, but I'm thinking those kind of divas with great looks and limited skills are always going to be around though, the same way we'll have hosses that can barely work like Strowman.

The "hate" which I'm sure people actually do aim directly at her, is really aimed at WWE trying to feature her as a wrestler so vehemently.
I guarantee you if she was just some heel's valet, people would be 100% fine with her.
But from the start she couldn't do the one thing people care about when they're watching wrestling - WRESTLE.
She's pretty, but not astronomically so that it makes up for the fact that she simply could not wrestle. She's passable now, but in an era when you've got a depth of female talent previously unseen in WWE, "passable" just doesn't cut it.
She can't promo worth a damn either, which would make up for bad wrestling in most cases.
She basically couldn't do the basic elements of wrestling, yet WWE tried to feature her far more than they ought to have and largely in spite of what the audience clearly wanted. It was almost like WWE was saying "f*** YOU" to the WWE Universe with how they kept pushing her out there. So when people see Eva Marie, they don't just see a former model turned wrestler, they see WWE's unabashed contempt for its own fanbase.
People who defend Eva Marie will say, "Well she JUST started wrestling." Which is true, and even greater indicator of the contempt that WWE has for its fanbase because they think so little of us that they'll put an untrained, uncharismatic (on the mic) wrestler and try to trick us into thinking she's an actual wrestler.
Its the one insult that a wrestling fan will not abide. You can fool us into thinking a ref is that blind, a guy can come back from the dead, an international model actually wants to get into a fight each week, a sock is a snake, and any number of carny tricks, but to attempt to trick a wrestling fan into believing Eva Marie is a wrestler is going too far.

Now the second she beats anybody of any significance, she's no longer harmless. But for now, heh, she's fine on Total Divas.
