Who are they getting advice from on how to do this? Seriously this is something M. Night would come up with. I'm telling you this had to have been a Twin Peaks reboot, that they changed into an Archie show when they realized they didn't have the rights to a Twin Peaks reboot.

I still say the creators only saw "Archie's Weird Mysteries" on TV to make that into a live action show instead of animated.

If you would have told me 8 years ago that not only would Archie be publishing 8 comics that are must read, but also has an upcoming live action show that looks really interesting I would have thought you were crazy.

This looks like The OC/Pretty Little Liars with Archie names...

So I DVR'd the first episode and I'm about five minutes into it now. All I can think the entire time watching this is that the Archie Joke Generating Laugh Unit 3000 is suffering a serious malfunction.

I actually kinda liked it.
Not sure how I feel about Jughead, though.
Also, Veronica looks like and reminds me so much of my girlfriend in undergrad, it's crazy.

What kind of weirdness did I just watch? Twin Peaks meets some comic characters or something?

So I finished the episode. I really don't know what to make of it. It didn't grab me from the get go like Smallville did (the only other teen soap opera I've ever really liked). And the attempts to make it into something more then a garden variety teen soap opera, like the murder mystery, honestly felt tacked on despite being the driving force of the episode. I'm honestly leaning towards this being a bomb.
Archie and Betty were good. Veronica was iffy at times but I think the character will settle into something likeable. Honestly the character Archie had the most chemistry with was Ms. Grundy, and we know that's never gonna end happily. Was interested in their take on Jughead, I do want to see where that goes. Then there was Kevin, who was probably the biggest gay stereotype I've seen on TV since Will and Grace. I'm happy that we're seeing more gay characters on TV, but man, couldn't the writers come up with something more nuanced?
The biggest problem though was Cheryl Blossom. She was just so over the top that I couldn't take her seriously for a single moment. She seems like a parody of a character you'd see in a 90's teen drama movie. Actually if this show had come out in the 90's or early 2000's I could see people seeing this show as really cutting edge and getting pretty popular with the Dawson's Creek crowd. By 2017 standards though it feels kinda behind the times.
The show just had a weird feel to it in general. It felt like it was written as a period piece (either the 60's or 80's, I can't really tell), but was then re-written as a contemporary show with only minimal re-writes to throw in some pieces of modern pop culture.
Oh well, at the end of the day everybody knows that all interpretations of Archie live and die on their portrayal of Big Ethel, so I'll wait for her to show up before making any final decisions.

I'm legitimately shocked at how much I enjoyed this. I had no idea Josie And The Pussycats were Archie characters -- that's how little I know about the Archie comics, but I just found this universe so engrossing, and really want to know more about how it goes from here.

So I just finished the third episode, and this was pretty horrible. I think the story arc with Jason's murder has some potential, but the main plot of this episode was just stupid. Awkwardly stupid. The whole "sticky maple" thing felt more like a sitcom plot then a drama. I mean, Smallville got stupid and awkward at times too, but there was always a sense of self-awareness to it that is just completely missing from Riverdale.
As for the Jason murder story arc, here's my theory - Polly didn't have a mental breakdown. Jason got her pregnant. And while Jason originally saw her as just a conquest, he genuinely grew to love her. Realizing neither family would approve of them getting married and raising the child together, Jason came up with a plan to fake his death with Cheryl and run away with Polly. Betty's Mom found out about this and decided to put a stop to it by putting a bullet in Jason's head and sent Polly off somewhere to have the baby (or possibly an abortion). Now Betty's Mom is using her newspaper to portray Cheryl as the guilty party.
Oh, and Dilton is gonna go all Columbine on Riverdale High sooner or later.

As someone who grew up reading Archie comics, this show makes me sad. And I'm really disturbed that Archie is hooking up with Miss Grundy

.... This is so much of a guilty pleasure for me lol. Like despite being a comic book fan I know next to nothing about the Archie comics, other than the fact two girls have a love triangle going on with the title character. I guess because of that I don't feel so betrayed by how the characters are portrayed. Other than that I have a weakness for trashy soap opera style shows and this definitely scratches that itch! Can't wait to see how much more bizarre this will get lol.

And love what I have seen of Riverdale so far. There is no way they could make a live action show without changing some stuff. This so far feels like a mixture of the revamped Archie stuff plus a dash of Afterlife with Archie. With Archie's supposed money trouble, damn you Sonic,I hope this show is a hit.

I thought the first two episodes were great, but this episode was stupid.

The show is mad dumb, but I expected that going in.
In terms of CW stuff, it's my favorite show going as DCTV is fumbling a bit this season.

Show's a guilty pleasure for me thus far. Admittedly, this latest episode got a little dumb BUT...
*Perv alert* I'll keep watching as long as they keep having Camila Mendes (Veronica) in skin tight clothing & bathing suits.
Even Betty recognizes...

Bathing suits? I'll have to start watching then. Recently saw a pic of her and I love her look.
