I agree about Mel's commentaries, and I remember the one from Spaceballs he did. When they had the whole bit with the "he's an asshole, sir", "I know but what's his name?" "That IS his name...", Mel was all embarrassed and said he didn't really want that in the movie but he was talked into it. He's a great comedic mind, but why he wants to sweep a lot of stuff under the rug and not explain a lot asks the question "Then why do a commentary?" I remember the commentary he did for Blazing Saddles was at least pretty decent, but it's been years. That had a lot of stuff about behind the scenes, such as a misunderstanding when casting Madeline Kahn that had to be pretty awkward. What was that?

That he really wanted her for it after meeting her and said he'd have to see her legs. She apparently said "Oh it's one of these...." and was displeased until he explained that no, it was relevant to the role and not some casting couch bullshit.

I tried watching Age Of Ultron with Joss Whedon's commentary. It was a boring as f*** listen.

I tried watching Age Of Ultron with Joss Whedon's commentary. It was a boring as f*** listen. Worse than his first Avengers commentary where he just does this passive aggressive "I wanted to do it this way but....you know." thing for the whole movie?

Does Whedon do commentary in Buffyspeak?

Never got around to watching the first Avengers with commentary, but if Age Of Ultron is any indication, I'll just steer clear of Whedon commentaries.

If we can include MST3K/Riff Trax, I loved the RT for The Dark Knight. {Spoiler}"A hostage situation has developed at Nakatomi Plaza."
"Where is Harvey Dent?" *muffled* "Not in the closet, that's for sure!"
"Then you're gonna love me...people say I have a puckish sense of feistiness that's irresistible."
"...take off your mask and show us who you really are!" "Batterson J. Manford III!"

Best commentary is for UHF, only one I've listened to multiple times. So informative, funny and insightful. My all time favorite, too. It never drags, never lulls or anything. Gotta give special mention to the Simpsons seasons 3-10 commentaries. I like the one where they call John Schwartzwelder at home. Also, the guest stars doing commentary on their episodes is pretty cool, too. OH! And the illustrated commentaries on those are pretty damn cool.

Also, Metallica's Some Kind Of Monster with the band doing commentary is hilarious. They make fun of themselves the entire time. I was gonna mention SKOM. I always liked when they show the news footage of people burning their albums after all the Napster stuff, and we get something along the lines of: "Hey there's Newsted in the background!" "And there's Mustaine!" As for bad commentary, it wasn't terrible, but the commentary for the 60's Batman movie with Adam West and Burt Ward kinda drags from what I remember. Adam West just talks about the costumes a lot. May need to watch it again to refresh my memory though.

The bit where they break into the 60's Batman theme is pure gold.

The cast (Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer, Neil Patrick Harris) + Paul Verhoeven commentary for Starship Troopers is great. They talk about all the B-movie stuff about it, and point out that the reason Denise Richards isn't joining them is that she's a bigger star than all of them.

The commentary for The Weird Al Show is also great as it goes into how much CBS S&P meddled with the show to make it more "educational".
