I've seen this story enough times over the year to know that it's firmly in "I'll believe it when I see it" territory now.

Whenever they are stuck for ideas on how to book Big Show Push #470, it'll happen.

Problem with this story every time that it comes up is most of the wrestlers don't want to be called cruiserweights, light heavyweights, junior heavyweights, etc. Nor do they want the stigma attached to it. Rey Mysterio knew his chance to move up the card in WWE and make big money was not going to happen as long he was branded one of the flippy midgets. So he left the division and went on to bigger things. Which inspired others to follow his step. Finn didn't leave New Japan just to get stuck as a junior again. A lot of people who do meet the requirements won't like the downgrade.

They don't really have many "heavyweights" anymore. Most of the guys who will form the future of the company are lean and light, like Rollins, Ambrose, Balor, etc....Even guys like Roman Reigns are not THAT much bigger, and a guy like Brock is only part time, but is quite quick and agile for a big guy.
The days of the giant monster that Vince orgasms over are pretty much gone. The Local Men are really the last of that ilk, and newer guys like Strowman haven't made a dent. Fans just don't give a shit. The expectation these days is on greater athleticism, and to do that, you need to be smaller. I suppose Kevin Owens is an exception, but he can't help it, he's just always hungry.

That's been something that's been thrown around for years.
Personally... I hate the idea of shuffling off the Cruiserweights to do their own thing or having weight classes. It just comes off like, "These guys aren't big enough or good enough to go for the real belts," and no matter what they always end up booking them that way eventually. Plus it just cuts down on match variety.

Anyone worth their salt will make it to higher levels either way. And if they don't have big name potential, at least they have something to do other than being fodder for the monster of the month.

Thought this could be related. I wonder if Triple H will keep pursuing LU or if it was a halfhearted effort.

I know I'm probably in the minority but I have no interest in a Cruiserweight division.

If you read the article, it's not a cruiserweight division with guys already under the WWE banner, it's a Network-exclusive mini-series tournament using independent wrestlers that aren't signed to WWE (with the chance of them getting signed if they impress).

Stop making me read articles about things I just want to form my own blind assumptions about.

Sounds kind of like Best Of The Super Juniors to me. I'd be down for it if it happens. (And I have to wonder if it'd also be a vehicle to establish one of their NXT talents as a credible threat for the future, like a La Sombra or a Rich Swann)

I don't believe that a) Vince will ever fully support a smaller guy division and b) that the WWE ring setup is safe enough to have a pure cruiserweight show, the ring size and ropes just don't work that well for high fliers.

I love tournaments....need more tournaments. Company wide month long round robin? BRING IT ON!
