Stupid.
I mean, the group tormented this guy for 18 months or so. He turned down all offers. He was the first guy to score a key WCW victory beating Hogan for the WCW title on Nitro. He looked strong as hell. He didn't back down and join the nWo at first chance like Bagwell did, he didn't run away from them and it made him look like a badass.
Plus, since Sting decided to leave the WCW hanging and Savage joined the nWo because he couldn't take the beatings anymore, if there was one guy that was WCW through and through it was Luger.
What a shame.

What made no sense was his decision to stay with the reunited nWo A-Team when even Sting was like, "f*** these guys!"

I kind of get the feeling Luger just wanted to be with what was presented as something of the cool team. I think it's been said the perception was that he was a nice enough guy but feeling his age and trying to be hip. Also, I could see him protective just since he got brushed aside in favor of Bret in WWF, and when he came to WCW with the promise of a title win, he wanted to secure himself a nice spot.

I don't think Sting even had the chance to say that, because he was out for about six months during this time, and within that time, the nWo both reunited and fizzled before Sting could even return.

That's right. Wasn't Macho also injured most of the Wolfpac's run too?

With Lex Luger being such a natural heel, I'm surprised he didnt join sooner. Of all people to represent WCW, the guy who is better suited to being the heel.

The NWO had too many members. By the end, practically major star and loads of jabronis had joined them at one point or another.

Luger should have joined the NWO sooner, he should have been one of Sting's first opponents during his title reign in 1997/98. Have Sting wrestle against Hall or someone else with credibility from the NWO with Luger in the aisle, spending the whole match keeping the NWO run-ins at bay. Sting wins clean, Luger gets in the ring with the mic and makes a public apology for ever having doubted sting, only to clock him with the gimmicked bat, explaining the following night that he's here to wrestle for the title and the only way he's going to get the belt back is by going through Sting, with the NWO's help.

The NWO should have been Hogan Hall Nash Savage, and 6. Anyone beyond that should have been a direct WWF transfer. Warrior would have been great as an NWO member. He should have been the anti Sting after Sting beat Hogan at Starcade 97. Piper would have been an awesome addition as well. WCW would have been wise to stick to an us vs them story line for at least the first three years, or until all the former WWF big names dried up story lines. Then they could end it and do a Hogan redemption angle like wrestlrmania vs the Rock.

This is similar to the actual kayfabe explanation too. Luger said that he still respected WCW, but he saw that the Wolfpac was on to big things and was gonna take down Hogan so he joined before it was too late. Then he said Sting should do the same.
