I know this movie did so poorly that they actually pulled from theaters. But I just got a chance to watch it. With a few little changes to the main story from the cartoon it wasn't really that bad of a movie. They made the girls a little younger and had them living in a foster home rather than owning it. The main antagonist was made into a woman who is the mother of Jem's love interest Rio. Also Jem/Jerrica doesn't have any ownership in Starlight Studios. I liked the modern spin that was put on synergy. The absence of The Misfits (Until a scene after the credits) was a little upsetting but the scene I mentioned does set up for a sequel, which I doubt will ever happen. But it is a fun little movie. About 20 years to late for sure. But I think fans of the old cartoon will enjoy it.

Still need to watch it for Tooncrap. Simply put, I love the original Jem and really have no interest in watching what is a real mess of a movie.

I doubt that since they're the ones trashing it Fair play to you for enjoying it (No sarcasm there) but I thought it was an abysmal movie admittedly, I can usually distance myself from the source material enough to enjoy remakes of things from my childhood. My ruling on a movie is if they can make me care enough to see how it ends then it's a good movie. I did find myself questioning a few of the changes but once I was able to turn off my nostalgia shades and watch it for what it was. It became enjoyable. I can see why fans would have issues with it. But at the same time I feel if it was given more of a chance people would be happy with it. Also I talked to the voice actor who played Jerrica in the old cartton. You can tell she's been fielding a lot of negativity towards it. But I personally like the story.

It seems like a movie that would have been a perfectly fine, but unremarkable movie....had it not had the Jem name. Aside from a couple of visual nods to the old cartoon, it didn't seem to have anything to do, plot-wise, with the actual Jem and The Holograms.

She said she didn't get the hate about the movie and that she felt they were sending a positive message. Granted, she did have a role in the movie, but...

If you liked the movie, that's fine. I don't judge those who do. I will, however, say that I actually saw this in theaters out of sheer curiosity, and also because I opted to review it for a publication. One thing that I will note is that I was one of three people in the theater. This movie was really not good. Now I can accept it if some adaptations sort of distance themselves from the source material. I actually binged on the show during the summer and fall last year on Netflix and I enjoyed the show for what it is. This movie, on the other hand, suffered from a lot of cliches and I felt like I watched a made-for-TV movie that was somehow green-lit. Even if I didn't watch the show before seeing it, I still would have thought that the film sucked. The only positives I saw were the music in the film (The songs were catchy, and the girl who played Jerrica/Jem has a good voice) and the mid-credits sequence with The Misfits. It's too bad that this movie performed so poorly because that part set up a sequel that is unlikely to happen.

She was super excited about the movie getting made. I wouldn't really call her 3 second apperance a role. But yea she's in it. Pink hair and all. If you ask her about the changes in storyline. She says the movie was supposed to be a prequel.

Everything I've listened to or seen about this movie feeds my desire to avoid it. I don't need a reboot to be 115% true to it's source material. Sometimes, I don't want a reboot to be 115% accurate. All I "ask" is that the people in charge capture the vibe of the property they are rebooting. The D-com vibe I'm getting from the trailers and reviews doesn't match the bombastic glam rock vibe the cartoon had.

One of those things where I was like "There's a vocal Jem fanbase?...There's a Jem fanbase?"
Having watched the cartoons as a kid...whatever.

I didn't see the movie. I hate the Jem cartoon, but I sympathized with its fans since the movie stripped just about everything that made it recognizable. The thing that killed me though was the music. If I'm not mistaken they did a bunch of cover tunes of really bad modern folk-pop that had know energy to it. Now even as a non-fan of Jem, I remember the music being incredibly energetic so I could at least see people getting excited about it. The music in this movie put me to sleep so much so that I was offended (bare in mind that I was offended for a franchize that I really don't care about that much).

I didn't see it, because I was already burned by newer Transformers, G.I. Joe, and TMNT movies. However, anyone wanting a GOOD new take on Jem should read the IDW comics.
