I liked Chronicle, but he's wrong about Rey in Star Wars. Yes and No. Some part of her is "Marie Sue" but it's more than that: Just compare her to Luke for example. In the original Trilogy when Luke Faces Darth Vader we think OMG how is Luke gonna defeat him, how is he gonna survive? When Ray faces Kai Loren, the drama is sort of cancelled where the wanted effect is "isn't she great?" as if a protective daddy wrote this. Sort of like the current spoiled Millenials. First example is all about story, story, story. Second example is cheap gratuious pop.

Knowing the type of guy Landis is, before even reading I thought "They wouldn't listen to a guy like him" and he says the exact thing. Im conflicted about Landis. I think he's kinda brilliant at times but I thought American Ultra sucked as a story. And I've argued with him on Reddit about Age of Ultron not being a shitty film. His wrestling video was awesome though. Well AoU WAS shitty.

I like Max Landis. I'm a fan of a lot of his YouTube stuff and I could listen to him pitch movies all day. And I really liked Chronicle and his Superman miniseries American Alien. I don't always agree with him (and I can see why others might consider him grating). But I'm a fan. I'm sad that Triple H didn't yell out "I'M THE BEST AT WRESTLING" during that beatdown on Roman. Audience, what will it take for you to like me?! Well, we really don't like John Cena Roman Reigns.

Landis straight up said what we've been saying about Reigns and that's to turn him heel, keep him away from the mic and have him constantly destroying stuff as a Lesnar/Goldberg-like heel.
Surely they're not listening to him but at least he tries.

^^^^ yea on You Tube he said after TLC that this was how Reigns should be booked, as a destroyer.

Sorry for the uber bump, but here's a new video from Max about his experiences meeting the likes of Seth. Talks a bit about storytelling and there's a bit about Brauwn.

He needs to get them to use more laptops and satellite dishes on the back of old cars.

f***er is still spot on. This is why I get confused when people put down he Attitude Era. As crude as it may have been, the quality of the show as a whole was way better. It felt like a world where anyone could interact with anyone at the same time. More spontaneity. More interesting storylines.
"Yeah but who does that get over?": The fricken product, Seth Freaking Rollins.

All this talk about having people and storylines from different parts of the show interact with each other reminds me of a special episode of Raw or Smackdown we will never see. Which would be a commercial free (although you know WWE and the USA Network would implement lots of product placement to make up for it) episode of either show that is shot like the movie "Birdman". So it's shot like one continuous take. The show starts with a match and then the camera follows one of the wrestlers as they walk to the back which introduces us to the backstage vignettes and then wrestlers as they walk out to the ring.

I said it in the comments....that Max's view point is pretty much Lucha Underground.

I'm under the impression that Triple H has been waiting almost a year for that cup of coffee he asked Max to get him.

Max Landis is great. Rey from Star Wars sucks. WWE is a nightmare to work for.

Sorry, but I can't still get over the fact that he glossed over why HHH was the biggest heel of 2000. He talked so much about HHH, but how you can overlook the storyline angle where HHH hired Rikishi to steal The Rock's rental car keys to run down Stone Cold Steve Austin, just so he can keep his WWF Championship title; and at the same time frame the crime on the #2 star. Keep in mind everyone hated HHH for this because Stone Cold was the #1 guy in the WWF, nobody's drawn as much as a crowd since the Hogan days, and HHH took him out for an entire year (kayfabe.) -nope, I'm just going to mention how HHH cheats in matches for 10 minutes. This is the same guy that said that the death of Superman was the first time comic book death was invoked. Despite Jean Gray dying and returning at least twice by that point. (as well as comic book death being a pretty huge joke by that point in general) Max Landis doesn't let facts get in the way of a good story. Except Marvel really hammered it in that Phoenix died while Jean was in suspended animation. Superman was literally the guy being killed and then DC went "healing coma that looks like he's dead" which shat all over how meaningless deaths are in comic books.

The most successful time periods of wrestling are when it's not presented as a wrestling show.

"Yeah but who does that get over?": The fricken product, Seth Freaking Rollins. I feel the same way. Everybody felt important. The crowd was on fire and damn near everyone had a sign. You had everybody trying to kill each other, whether it was for the Hardcore, European, or WWF Title. Things were interesting. You could have Val Venis say The Rock has pebbles for balls, and Rock would say, "The Rock will see you in the ring, jabroni!" and your main even is Rock vs. Val Venis is a solid competitive match. And it was totally possible Rock could lose. Yeah, you had garbage, but Raw was can't miss back then. Now you can predict months of shows, not watch, and not miss a damn thing.
