Watching top 100 Raw moments on the network and it just showed that exploding limo segment.
My question is, had Guerrero not died, what exactly was the plan? Genuinely, were we going to have a big who done it or what was going to happen?
How did Vince become part of a segment which would write him off TV forever to becoming ever present, even up to right now?

I believe the intent was for Ken Kennedy (KENNEDY!) to be revealed as Vince's illegitimate son who killed him as part of a plot to take over WWE.

It was because of Benoit, not Guerrero. This aired the week before Benoit died and the Raw that became the Benoit Tribute show was supposed to be a 3 Hour Vince McMahon Tribute Show. They dropped it by saying that Vince faked his own death to see what would happen to WWE without him. I think that's what was supposed to happen.

It was the Benoit family's death that disrupted the storyline, not Eddie.
I don't know the full plans for the storyline but there was supposed to be a "funeral" for Vince on Raw featuring guys like Bischoff and Austin giving eulogies, the night Benoit was found. At the end of the show Linda McMahon would be arrested for the murder.
Then eventually it'd be revealed that Vince faked his death with help from Mr. Kennedy (for some reason), which would lead to Kennedy vs Triple H at WrestleMania.

I do love that Donald Trump called the WWE offices the next day because he "heard something happened to Vince."

I don't know for sure, but the thing about this that sticks out to me was right after the show was over, the WWE.com site had a mock newspaper headline about the explosion.

They actually taped the funeral the morning of the Benoit discovery, supposedly Michael Hayes got super drunk at the affair and stole the show in most of the sketches. The plan that didn't come to fruition was contacting Vince's real-life brother Rod McMahon. As for Wrestlemania, I always heard it was supposed to lead to Kennedy-Undertaker and Kennedy being the one who breaks the streak, winning the title in the process. Taker was super high on Kennedy and it was said he took a liking to him that was exceptionally rare. I may be wrong on this, but I believe Triple H's plans for that Mania were supposed to be Evolution in a fatal 4-way. That might have been a different Mania though, I want to say it was 24. Might have otherwise been 21.

If I remember right, they were going to run a who done it, ending with I think Steph getting arrested which would bring Hunter into the family on screen. During the trial it would be revealed that it wasn't Steph in the limo before it exploded but an unknown child, revealed to be Kennedy and Vince left everything to him making him a super heel. Eventually it comes out that Vince isn't dead but working with Kennedy and kick off a Trips/Steph v. Kennedy/Vince feud that would end at WM with Hunter defending the title against Kennedy who put control of WWE on the line.

I remember knowing it was obviously fake because they kept mentioning how there never was a body recovered.
The really bad thing on my end was thinking the Benoit death was going to lead to a "serial killer" angle, because IIRC, Dexter had just come out. It blew my mind that Sherri Martel's death didn't cause some consternation.

Thing is whatever you think about Kennedy, had the Benoit situation not have had happened then he'd be made for life. Stiff back suplex on Orton? Can't fire 'Vince's son'. Also WWE was clearly very high on Kennedy at that point. Crazy to think how it all turned out.

So many people thought it was real that WWE stock went down and WWE had to issue a press release saying that it was scripted. But if they didn't do this, we wouldn't have gotten the McMahon Illegitimate Son Storyline, which was supposed to be Kennedy, but then he got suspended & they made it Hornswoggle.

Paul London's shit eating grin was my favorite thing about this angle. I like that when they did the repeat, where instead of an explosion, he would get served papers or something for the paternity suit stuff, and they had Paul grinning even more and Vince stopping to acknowledge it.

The idea was always supposed to be Vince faked his death, but he was going to pass ownership to his other son, who was supposed to be Mr. Kennedy which was going to lead to Kennedy (with Vince in his corner) vs Triple H (with the other McMahons in his corner). After the Benoit death they sped up the process, but Kennedy got himself in hot water for blasting any body who blasted the WWE and saying he never took steroids... then getting busted for taking steroids. Which is why the angle ended up becoming a joke with Hornswoggle.
And fun story, they actually got Bruce Campbell booked to be apart of the original angle as well.
