I didn't see a thread for it, so my apologies if I just missed it. I just came back from seeing it and my two word review is: HOLY SHIT. Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Goodman were fantastic, and the movie does a great job of keeping you guessing about what's going on right up until the end. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Howard shooting Emmett made me jump so high in the theater. Such an intense scene.
I didn't see the ending coming at all. I've seen a lot of people complain about it online but I thought it was a cool twist. Felt like a long Twilight Zone episode. I'm curious how it connects to the original Cloverfield, if it does at all.

Goodman is scary as hell. {Spoiler}Thought the thing with the aliens wrapped up too quickly, but I liked her choice. And man, this was a Cloverfield sequel in name only really. Though I guess they are going with that anthology series deal. Really felt like an Outer Limits episode

Yeah, some damn fine acting and direction, and seems like a recipe for an anthology series if Abrams wants to keep producing them. {Spoiler}You basically are working under the concept of "What if something weird, horrifying, and inexplicable happens one day?", but you add in "What would happen to this group of people in that situation?" The original Cloverfield was "What happens to 20-something urbanites when a kaiju strikes?" while this was "What happens when the aliens DO attack, so the crazy, dangerous conspiracy nut is right, but STILL a crazy, dangerous guy to be around?".

Part of my was a little disappointed that it wasn't directly related but the idea of them being an anthology is fascinating. Very curious about the idea JJ talked about for a third movie that would connect them all.

I liked that it left a little mystery about 'Megan'. I mean you obviously know most of what happened, but not entirely/nor the real backstory.

If you get the chance and want an idea of how the films, should they continue, could be connected, make a trip back to the Tagruato website they made for the original Cloverfield's viral campaign.

Just got back from the theater, really liked it. Like others have said, it basically felt like a long-form episode of the Twilight Zone or Outer Limits. Goodman in particular was a highlight; I never knew the dude could be terrifying like that.

John Goodman is awesome, and I'm a sucker for these type of movies, so I'll be seeing it. BTW- any Slusho?

There's a Slusho sign at a gas station, which gave me a chuckle.

Here's a random thought... {Spoiler}There were alot of theories about what fell into the ocean at the end of the first. What if that was the first sign of the aliens?

Saw it and really liked it. Disturbingly tense.

Good little thriller. Might have been the best work Goodman's done outside of a Coen Brothers movie.

So what I get out of this is Abram's second film since The Force Awakens is not bad at all. But will we feel the same about Star Trek?
On another note, what are some decent anthologies out there? I'm pretty sure the earliest one I remember seeing is Terry Gilliam's "Trilogy of Imagination."

Well, Abrams didn't direct this one; so I don't know if I'd count it as 'his' film beyond producing.
Then again, he's not doing the next Star Trek either.
Creepshow was a decent lil anthology twofer.

Good grief was that intense! I really love this theme of movies! A lot of thrills using the unseen and unanswered as a driving force! Plus the fact that they are like these fun puzzles one gets to try to solve. I still hear people quibble over what little details mean what on the first one. I want so much more of this its not even funny! {Spoiler} And this is not a gimmick thing on my part I promise, but did anyone else notice all of the freaking ducks all over this movie? The most obvious being the shower curtain, but there were little statues and signs all over with ducks on them, and not just in the bunker. I kept wondering what that meant.
