He hits the nail on the head at the end. Both basically convey the same story just in different styles

Any form of The Mask that isn't Son Of The Mask is entertaining.
My favorite is the first movie, but Mask Returns/Hunt For Green October were very well written, and the animated series was fun too.

I still can't get over the fact that I saw Son of the Mask in theaters. Well, not all of it, because I bailed pretty quickly, but it's baffling to me that somehow movies that horrible still manage to see release. It's staggering, once you think about all the people involved in the production. Movies are like the end result of the ultimate collaborative process considering how many moving pieces there are. You'd think that at least one person involved thought "Dude, this kind of sucks." Maybe they did, but it happened anyways, as there were enough people who thought it WASN'T garbage. Wow.

The other day I discovered I got the first appearance of the Mask, then known as Masque,in a comic book. No clue if it is worth much but it was a neat find.

Personally I think the Tex Avery cartoon style in the movie probably worked better in a live action setting than the comic style would have. I seriously didn't know the comic was gory. Yep, super Gory, and from what I remember Big Head is also pretty much the villain of the series at that.

The animated series was really good. I'm surprised when he brought he didn't mention how risqué it was. They had an actual episode where a hot black stripper (they even said onscreen she's a stripper) covered in dynamite over her lady bits tried to blow up the mayor, with Mask stopping her and Callhan and his partner even got to see her naked! They don't show any nudity, but's ALL they censored! To this day, I think The Mask animated series still holds that moment as the biggest grand slam in censor dodging animated history.....

The Mask in the comics made its wearer completely evil and insane, whereas the movie and TV show toned it down significantly where it just made Stanley a living cartoon who's mischievous, but ultimately a quasi-good guy.

I had the comic book adaptation of the movie as a kid, and they had the part where the bad guy kills the reporter chick after turning heel on Stanley. Pushes her into the newspaper machine or something. I don't know if they shot that scene and cut it or never filmed it, but I remember being confused at that part since it didn't happen in the movie.

That seen was shot, but was cut from the final movie. I think it was a bonus feature on the DVD.

Here it is: The reason it was removed was because they wanted to save her for a sequel which she and Ipkiss would team up, this plot would be most of the episodes of The Mask animated series. I also heard that originally they really wanted this to be gory and bloody, like a dark comedy and make The Mask the next Freddy Krueger, since the studio was New Line Cinema. Hmm, Freddy vs The Mask, how would that turn out?
