I couldn't pass up buying a few games that I didn't have already, especially because I have been playing WWE '12, '13 and 2K14 lately. I did a few test runs on the games earlier, and I remember back in the day people said that SvR 2008 was one of the weakest titles of the series. It has the same control scheme as SvR 2007 did, but I realized that JBL's commentary just seemed off in that game. He replicated Tazz's commentary from SvR 2006 (Which was recycled in the following game) and it didn't feel like how JBL called the action back in 2006 or 2007. He just seemed like he read lines with little emotion.
As for the other games after that, I read how SvR 2010 had a mode to make storylines. Was this like GM mode at all? I know that there was also Road To Wrestlemania mode, which I will do.
What are your thoughts on these games?

2008 is the worst game in the series for me. The roster is weak, the season mode sucks, and the whole fighting style stuff really ruined the movesets. 2009 is okay. It had a very current roster when the game came out at the time. Almost everybody was there. The Road to WrestleMania was pretty entertaining, and they got rid of the fighting styles from 2008. 2010 is an evolution of 2009. More of the same for Road to WrestleMania. The cool thing about the game was creating storylines. I thought it was neat. Pretty good game.

Essentially three copies of the same game. 2010 was probably the best out of all of them with their revamp, and the new 2K games are close to being very good. They mess up on small details a lot, and nonetheless, we need to see a brand new engine from scratch rather than one with foundation in the PS2 era. There are still animations from SmackDown 1 in the games today. Wouldn't surprise me to learn that there's still quite a bit of those games left in the engine.

Know SvR 2008 gets a lot of flack, but I still enjoy it. It openly wears the fact it had to remove all elements of Benoit so close to launch, but the GM mode was at its most expansive, which is its sole, and considerably redeeming feature.
The Wii version is hilarious in how shovelware-y and barebones it is.

2008 will always have a special place in my heart because it was the game I did most of my CAW related stuff on, whether it was videos/URWL CAW league shows I made or things I actually created.
Looking back, it hasn't aged well. It was released when those EA Sports analog stick controls were all the rage, complete with quick time events.
There's still a lot 08-10 did well. I especially like that you could export characters and CAWs between 09 and Legends of Wrestlemania. Other than the control scheme, iffy menus and "unrealistic" camera angles, there's still some redeeming qualities there.

Which one is the one with the bafflingly tedious GM mode?

Which one is the one with the bafflingly tedious GM mode? I think that's 'every game with a GM mode'. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

2010 was amazing, create a story mode led to some really great stuff (favorite thing I made was a storyline called "Mr. McMahon is Dying" where Vince thinks it's the end). Which one is the one with the bafflingly tedious GM mode? 2008, where they added ECW and then didn't balance the brands and ruined everything else. I still miss the good GM Modes. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

Reminds me I've been meaning to pick up a 360 copy of 2007 for forever now. Might do that when I get paid on Friday, I dunno.

WWE 2k14 on Ps3/360 was one of the most complete wrestling games, it had the storyline creator, universe, create a finisher, beat the streak/slobberknocker mode, great legends and modern roster, 30 years of Wrestlemania matches to recapture.
I would pick that one up instead of 2010 unless you really like Jesse and Festus.

2008 for the Wii is probably the worst game I have ever played. I know worst games exist but this is the worst game I have actually put money into, took home and played.
It took until WWE '12 for me to consider another of their games.

2008 is still the one WWE wrestling game I have never owned or played. I kinda wanted to play the GM Mode, but everyone's review of it left me in the cold.

2008 was the nadir of the downward slide that started with SvR1. Why on earth did the season mode force my character to insult ECW? Why were Cena and Orton both used as "Monsters" managed by Estrada? Why did Xbox get custom themes and PS3 got the completely pointless first person mode? Why was I in a tag team with Kenny frigging Dykstra?

Never saw the appeal of GM mode, I could put on great shows week in, week out, but my opposite number on the other show would consistently get better ratings with thrilling main events like Carlito vs Scotty 2 Hotty. Oh, and the fighting style thing in SvR '08 was utter shite. Forgot about that turribleness.

Don't forget Teddy Long saying he was going to get you a Hollywood superstar as your tag team partner (basically implying it was going to be The Rock) only for it to be "Rowdy" Roddy Piper who I swear to god sounded like he was drunk out of his mind while doing the voice over. Yeah if you pressed some button during a wrestler's entrance you'd get a POV shot of them making their way to the ring. I had a 360 so I didn't need to worry about that.
