The funniest part is watching the face team raise their hands, which logically fits into the match's storyline.

I don't understand why WWE never listens to the crowd and always insists on pushing washed-up aging veterans over fresh young talent! Now if you'll excuse me, I have to chant "JBL!" and "CM PUNK!" during a match involving Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.

But but but that's TOTALLY different! They do that, because they hate the storylines, not the wrestlers in the ring! Duuuuhhh

If the crowd's bored they're bored. They're under no obligation to get into their match just because you enjoy them.

I guess we'll just ignore the fact that the only time the crowd was remotely engaged in the action was when Sami Zayn was in the ring and the chants changed to "Ole! Ole ole ole!"

Or that Kevin Owens stood on the apron for the entire match until the finish?

OR its because there are far too many markets where the fans in attendance are desperate to get themselves over.
I doubt anybody sat in the crowd is thinking "wow I can have my 15 minutes of fame by chanting CM Punk in unison with thousands of other people" and even if 1 or 2 people in attendance did for some reason think that, it's definately not what the majority are thinking.
People who claim that it's fan trying to "get themselves over" are really over thinking it (and it's not just the quoted poster, I see this said on here alot!)
People go to shows to be entertained, if the show is no longer entertaining them they'll find a way to entertain themselves, you always get the odd idiots trying these chants throughout the show, but usually they don't catch on, they only do when everyones bored which isn't far-fetched.
I was certainly bored during the match, nothing to do with the talent involved or what they were doing necessarily, more fatigue with the overall show and then them presenting a long meaningless match.
Also don't forget it was a long taping, the crowd had to sit through Smackdown, Main event, Superstars and then a boring as shit Raw which they paid a fair whack of money to attend might I add. (WWE tickets are not cheap compared to many other forms of entertainment)
If I was in that crowd I'd have been chanting along just to keep sane, not because I wanted to "get over" (whatever that even really means, how the f*** would being one nameless faceless person chanting in a crowd of thousands even get someone over?)
