...who was in the right in the Puder and Angle shoot wrestling debacle?
At least Shawn really didn't have anything to do with that one.

Angle. Puder went into business for himself.

From all the stories I've heard, it was set up as a legitimate shoot fight. If Puder had been categorically instructed beforehand to take the fall, then of course he would have been completely wrong.
Also, if he had gone all the way and snapped Kurt's arm in order to win the shoot match, then I'd lay the blame on him as being totally unprofessional. But due to not knowing if he would have gone that far, I'm not entirely sure if he was in the wrong here.
I'd like to think Puder was just proving a point in order to create an impression and reputation rather than going out to intentionally put one of the companies top stars on the shelf for months. I'd like to think that he wouldn't be stupid enough to do that.

The whole idea of doing shoot wrestling was a terrible idea. Did they learn nothing from the Brawl For All? Whoever suggested it should have been sacked on the spot. How does a former Olympic gold medalist beating up a rookie make him look better? But it makes them look worse if they're easily tapped out.
Also, never really mentioned that Angle broke another contestants ribs during the same event. How exactly is he in the right because he actually got caught himself?

The ref was right to call it like he did and save Kurt's ass but Puder was in the right since it was a shoot contest. WWE and Angle were idiots.

The ref was right to call it like he did and save Kurt's ass but Puder was in the right since it was a shoot contest. WWE and Angle we're idiots. Bingo. Let's look at it the other way. Puder goes in, knows it's a "shoot fight", but does business and gets his ass handed to him nice and quick. Then he's the "kid who doesn't want it bad enough" and who "obviously doesn't take dis business seriously enough to recognize the opportunity he had". The ref did what had to be done to keep Angle from being injured. Puder was in a lose/lose situation due to the idiotic shoot contest that has never worked well for WWE.

Puder.
People forget on Angle's side that the reason it was set up to be a shoot fight was that the segment was supposed to be "Kurt Angle gets to shoot beat up the Tough Enough kids because DIZ BIZNESS!!!!". Angle just didn't have a clue one of the Tough Enough entrants could even hold his own in a shoot fight, much less be able to beat him in a shoot.

Wasn't it amateur wrestling rules? The keylock Puder used was way illegal then.

Puder. It was a shootfight, and it's not exactly like he could have been under the impression it wasn't after Angle broke the previous guys ribs 30 seconds before that.

Puder. In a shoot fight, there are no rules - no punches pulled, no holds barred. If Angle didn't want to risk having his shoulder broken, he shouldn't have broken the previous guy's ribs. You _never_ f*** with a guy's livelihood.

Puder.
Didn't they give the guys an extra workout just before he came out to make them more tired for him?
They never stated any rules, just "you guys fight for real".
Puder does seem to be a douche in general, but this and the hazing in the Rumble are the WWE being extra shitty to him.

I mean, if they were both told "we fighting for real, brah!" then Puder is right.
Also just by virtue of them handling it like manchildren afterwards at the Rumble, Puder is double-right.

I remember at the time loving what Puder did, because the whole thing reeked of arrogance from the WWE.

If it was presented to the contestants as as shoot fight with no rules then Puder is in the right.
If it was meant to be a shoot wrestling match and was instructed that way Angle as the lock Puder used is illegal in those parameters.
Either way the I Hurt Kurt shirts were in poor taste and make Puder look like a douche.
