Has this always been the case? The "shove pretty much everyone on the card" so they have a Mania payday? Wouldn't it be only the biggest and most popular guys get to appear at Wrestlemania, instead of trying to find something for goobers like Sin Cara and Stardust to do?
Isn't that, like, really...NICE of Vince?

It's been like that for most of the history of the show, really... Either by having massive cards of like 15 matches in the late '80s/early '90s or having battle royals for different reasons in the '80s boom period, the Attitude Era, the "Ruthless Aggression" era and current era.

Because Mania does more PPV buys and ticket sales than any other show so the bonuses will be larger.
The ppv bonus and share of the gate are scaled based on card placement using some mystical formula.
I guess on a show raking in as much as mania traditionally did the bonus for a battle Royale or lower card match is still significantly more than it would be for the same match as some b show. Not to mention that the percentage of the gate shared between the wrestlers is going to be much higher for a show in a stadium of tens of thousands than the typical arena show
And with PPV being decimated now Mania is one of the only shows still getting a decent PPV buyrate, so I guess it's the only chance to really earn a PPV bonus.
I guess it keeps the roster happy and despite rumours to the contrary Vince does seem like a nice guy (the whole ruthless thing is a bit of an act I think)

Similar to the way many companies hand out bonuses at Christmas or the end of the financial year to everyone relating to the performance. It's sort of a "keep up the good work" payment to try and keep the workforce happy.

I was interested until you called Sin Cara a goober.
Then you called Stardust a goober and lost my attention. Disappointing, sir.

I'm not sure how it works now with the Network but also keep in mind that there's a very significant difference between the pre-show and the main card in terms of pay. As in, an entire zero getting knocked off your check if you're on the pre-show.

I think it was just the New Generation Era (when they had no money) where people were left off the card. I think from 8-13, you had smaller cards and lots of people missing. Then from 14 onwards they started adding multiple matches or had HeAT as a pre show.
From a company stand point is cool of them to do, its like a Christmas bonus. From a quality standpoint it often hinders things.

I've heard it mentioned in recent times that the WrestleMania bonuses haven't quite been as good as they used to be, so perhaps - while it seems like they're being generous and giving everyone an extra bump - it's being done so much because they can afford it more.
Although this year has to be so packed due to all the injuries and them wanting to overcompensate by putting tons of talent on the show.

Why? Because despite what he sometimes does Vince actually likes his wrestlers and wants to reward everybody with a bump in pay and the experience of wrestling in front of a crowd that large. Its a locker room morale thing and a career achievement thing in his eyes also

I'm sure not everyone on the show is getting paid equally They definitely aren't getting paid equally, but even then, if you're a lowcarder like, say, a Fandango who's just there to be a warm body in the Andre battle royal, that smaller paycheck for being a warm body in the Andre battle royal is STILL going to be one of the two biggest paychecks you're going to receive this year (either first or second only to their royalty check for the WWE video game), and so it does still mean a great deal for them. So yeah, it is "Vince is just a far nicer person than they give him credit for".

I like it. The lower midcarders of the company work hard all year long regardless of whether it's recognised in storyline or not, and I'm sure it means a lot to them to be out there in front of thousands of people even if they're just there to be tossed out by Big Show in a pre-show battle royal.
Plus it kind of allows you to reflect on the year that was, who's still in the company and wonder where they'll be this time next year.

Although this year has to be so packed due to all the injuries and them wanting to overcompensate by putting tons of talent on the show. The way I understand it works and I could be wrong on this is that the bonus is a percentage of the PPV revenue which is shared between the roster scaled to card placement. So say for example it's 20% of the PPV revenue (totally made up number) it costs the company the same whether there are 8 or 80 people on the card, of course the more people on the card the smaller everyones slice is.

It depends on the placement on the card. If you're on the Pre-Show, you get less than if you're on the main show. That's why everyone wants to be on the main card and not stuck on the Pre-Show. If a match gets bumped due to time, like the WM 10 10-Man Tag or the Mixed Tag from a few years ago, they still get a bonus, since it wasn't their fault the match was cut.
