I try to listen to as many wrestling podcasts as I can. I try to listen to Austin's, Jericho's, Colt's, Sam Roberts', Taz's and Cheap Heat. I want to put JRs on that list too, but good lord it's terrible.
He asks insulting questions. "Do you find Roman Reigns sexy?" To Brooke Tessmacher. Constant weird questions about her body and talking about her nice "tush". His weird un-funny impressions of Terry Funk and Stu Hart he shoehorns into every interview regardless if the interviewee has any connection to them. It always leads to awkward laughter from the guest. He asks the same boring questions to everybody and constantly harps on stuff like ROH's lighting, punching, workers not selling enough, etc etc.
For someone who has so much wrestling knowledge and who on paper should be a great podcast host, he's actually boring and terrible and weird. Am I the only one who thinks this or am I being too hard on good ol' JR?

I haven't got through enough of one of his podcasts to be able to comment on most of the criticisms because I always end up turning it off. He is so boring, he drags everything out, he sounds like he'd rather be anywhere else. His one man show was pretty good (apart from his drowning bag of puppies story), but he sounds like he's records this after one too many whiskeys and he's ready to sleep.

His one man show was pretty good (apart from his drowning bag of puppies story) what Going purely off memory but it was something like when he was a young boy, his father made him put a load of puppies in a bag and drown them in the nearby lake/river/whatever to 'make him a man'. Everyone was horrified as you would expect but JR said it was about his tough southern upbringing. He spoke about it as someone would about their teacher lashing their hands (as the old punishment goes), a 'It sucked but that's what we did in those days' thing.

My only issue is he doesnt sound as enthusiastic as say Austin or Jericho. But JR has had that tone for a long time anyways

He's good with the right guest, but I generally only listen when he's reviewing something with someone like Keller or Meltzer. He's much better in a casual conversation setting then in an interview format in my opinion

JR needs to drop the podcast as he's not good at it and it's unravelling the 'good ol' JR' persona he's crafted. In the few I forced myself to listen through, he comes off as either bored or sour, not the wise grandpa of wrestling who was so mistreated by the WWF/E.

JR kind of seems like a bit of an asshole .

Does he still open with 20 minutes of "I don't get modern booking / Bill Watts / Sonic peach tea"? That got old real quick for me.

He lost me a couple years ago when he started browbeating "today's fans" for not recognizing Daniel Bryan's "slow burn" push to the Wrestlemania main event when anyone with half a brain could tell the WWE fell into it kicking and screaming and backing into it ass-first.

I've listened to a few of Jericho's and I wasn't a fan. Jericho was way too over the top. I like Austin's. His is one of my favorites. Jim Ross's is good sometimes. The impressions get annoying after awhile.

I want to recommend you all check out Kevin Kelly's podcast (DON'T START WITH THE MOST RECENT WRESTLEMANIA PREVIEW ONE! IT'S A OUTLIER STYLE FROM THE REST OF THE EPISODES, JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT FIRST)
Kelly does great analysis, opinion and conversation about what's going on in WWE, like genuinely great unbiased but informed insight. He then has a pretty wide spectrum of guests who he knows just how to play to. Forget whatever opinions you may have of Kelly based on his play-by-play or his WWE work or that one shoot where it looked like he had an uncharacteristically bad day. Trust me, give it a show. It's every two weeks, and the next one's up this Tuesday after Mania.

He did a series of year by year account of his time spent in WWF from 96-03. I think the series covered something like 15 two hour shows in the end.

I think J.R. is a little full of it with that story. It was common in the old days for farmers to do that when their dog had a liter of puppies and they couldn't find a home for all of them. Was it wrong? Yes, but the thinking then was that it was more humane to do that then let them go in the wild on their own where they would just suffer. Sounds like another back in my day everyone was tougher stronger and smarter story.

I can't stand JRs podcast sometimes for all the reasons mentioned but mostly because he always attempts to get his guests to agree with him on certain issues such as "Would you agree that true heels are a lost art?" and then when the guest says "yes" because they don't want to be confrontational he just says " Yep. I agree" and then signs their name to his imaginary petition.
Speaking of Jericho, I hate it when he cuts to a commercial and he thinks he's being sly but we all know he recorded that bit in post and he's not actually talking to the guest anymore and his fake laugh is atrocious.
I dig Kevin Kelly's podcast and Austin's (with the right guest) and Tazz's show is just quirky enough to be entertaining but Colt is still the king of podcasts. His show is always a home run for me.
That being said, right now The Lapsed Fan podcast is dominating my eardrums and has not made room for many other podcasts. I try to stop it but its a mother f***ing freight train. It's not what I want. It's what I need.

Jesus Christ What isn't told (and this is NOT a defense or justification) is that Mr. Ross bred dogs for show/profit. The puppies that young Jim was drowning were the bastard mutts that were the offspring of the wandering purebreds.
