Huh? Not what people thought it was? So worse, or less severe than we thought? Or something different? Sorry, I didn't articulate that properly. From what Meltzer has heard, the depression is the health issue. Not that mental illness isn't a serious issue, just that it's a much different situation that what people originally were thinking and speculating about. Ooh okay thank you for posting that! Now people can stop the extremely uncomfortable speculation

Bryan chose to share his life, including his body, with another person. He says he intends to have children with that person. It absolutely should not just be his choice. It's funny though, that this argument is used to defend guys who should not be in the ring choosing to get into the ring. But it's the opposite when someone like the Rock leaves the business healthy and happy, and gets slated by a lot of people for choosing to stop putting his body on the line. Fair point, but for all we know, his wife supports his decision to get back in the ring (if that is what he wants - obviously this is all speculation). As fans, we have no idea what his CT scans look like, what he wants, or what he's still able to do. I just get a kick out of people who think they know what's best for someone they've never even met. It's all conjecture. But having said that, I obviously wish him a happy and healthy life, no matter what.

This whole thing sounds actually quite worrying. Whether it's DB refusing to stop wrestling or whether it's DB desperately needing a step away or whether it's DB lost in his new role in the WWE world, none of this is good. He sounds depressed and/or misguided.
Let's all take note he is still only 34. 34. Still so young. Don't care what anyone says, WWE as a business has the resource to help him through whatever, and they'd be willing. The struggle now is persuading him to accept it. Just hope this all doesn't end in tears.

If this is true, people have mentioned how they would lose respect for Bryan. While that is true, I would also lose respect for any organization who would throw him out there for money over a man's health...whether he is willing or not.

The dude has a serious head injury and just retired from something that's been part of his life for years - it's no wonder he needs to take some time out. I doubt very much that he will risk his health to wrestle again.

He needs to go teach. That'll put him at ease. He just needs the time to realize it.

I don't think Bryan would bother retiring live on RAW and everything if he wanted to get back in the ring. He could have easily lied about what the scans on his brain showed. I'm sure if there's truth to this its because he wants to get away from the business for a while like others said. Can't blame the poor guy in the least. I hope someday he can come to terms with his own health and maybe do a non-wrestling role for WWE in the future.

Regarding the potential depression that Meltzer and others are speculating about, there's probably some truth to that but I don't think that he's necessarily going through depression in the traditional crippling and debilitating sense that we all think of it as, just more like "okay, that part of my life is over, how do I move on, what comes next?" internal conflict of sorts. That's got to be a scary feeling for him and it makes sense that his wife wouldn't want him to be going through that by himself.

If I had to guess, I'd say that wrestling was the only thing that Bryan really liked about the WWE experience. If he can't do that anymore, then it's not worth being a part of the company anymore.

Yeah, even people who retire on their own terms have a feeling of "What now?" afterwards.

IF Bryan is trying to get out of his contract to wrestle somewhere else, I'm not going to condemn him for doing so. It's his life, it's his health and I'm not the type of person to try and tell people what to do

He may just want out so he isn't obligated to do all their public appearances and be at their whim any time they want to fly him in to do something. He likely needs to completely get away from wrestling for a while. That's the impression I get from watching the "Thank You Daniel" special on the Network. That he just wants a complete disconnect.
