Because its such a little thing compared to human lives. But where does it stop? Do we burn Rushdie's Satanic Verses to make them happy? No but we can't yell fire in a crowded theater. Where do we draw the line there? *edit That's my last point on the subject to not get it locked.

The totally crazy thing is no one seemed to have a problem when Muhommad was shown in the Super Best Friends episode. Censorship in general is just a stupid idea. There are exceptions, such as yelling fire in a theater, that are ok. But the Muhommad thing, plus issues like 'Frack' (the Battlestar Galactica substitute for the popular four lettered F-word) where the audience can simply perform the substitution in thier minds kinda points to me how silly and arbitrary censoring popular culture truly is.

It's the same thing with bleeping, in my opinion. I remember when George Carlin had his show on Fox (early '90s, IIRC) and they bleeped the "F-word." I read an interview with Carlin where he said something to the effect of, you know what was being bleeped, and bleeping it only calls more attention to it. If you weren't paying close attention, you might not have noticed the "f***" slip out. But when it's replaced by " BEEP!" of course you're going to notice. Go ahead, show school shootings, terrorist acts, and all sorts of horrendous things on the six o'clock news (which, by the way, my middle school Civics teacher required us to do for class) but God forbid you let a word slip that most kids probably hear in their own home anyway.

Anyone know how big a fine it would be if a network show just wrote a script full of swears but bleeped them out? There was a show called Action that did just that, but the ratings just weren't there to make enough of an impact culturally. However, if a show like 24 had Jack say "F*** you!" to a terrorist he was killing would 24 or Fox get in a load of trouble?

The right wing family first phonies and the liberal pc fruitcakes would have a collective heart attack. Fox would be levied a massive fine that would bottom it out and all hell would break loose.

What's funny is that the FCC just bullies stations out of their money when they do something they don't like. The FCC has no authority on anything whatsoever. Nobody has to pay them a dime.
