My brother and I are co-owners of a Yaris and he was at the gym yesterday. Some jackhole cut through his master lock and stole his wallet and car keys. They took the car and immediately tried to use his credit card at a western union.
My brother notified me immediately and I was able to lock all his cards and call western union to cancel the transaction.
The police were called and the lojack was activated. The car was found abandoned nearby with anything remotely valuable taken and the registration removed.
Thankfully the car is undamaged and runs great. At this moment I sit here at the impound lot waiting for my insurer to forward documents proving ownership of the vehicle so that I can get it back.
I still have a lot to do but am extremely grateful that I will be getting my car back.

Thankfully you are getting the car back, and you and your brother are safe, but still, I'm sorry you had to deal with that.

I remember a story from about a decade ago in NYC about some jackass who stole a car, took a picture of himself behind the wheel, and left the camera in the car so the cops found it when they found the car

Hmm. Sounds like the gym would know who was signed in during that time frame.
Odd that they targeted your brother.
