I vaguely remember at the time the first movie came out that Vin might have claimed that XXX was going to replace James Bond as THE spy franchise for the new millennium. I remember that too. In fact, I remember a lot of buzz at the time echoing that particular sentiment. Amusing that Vin bailed on the first sequel without a second's hesitation.

Holy shit, I have never seen something try to recapture what the 2000's were like this has and it makes me realize something.
The 2000's were f***ing terrible.

It's weird how Diesel left the sequels to this and the first Fast and Furious movie only to eventually come back to both. I wonder whether xXx would've become a big thing had he stayed.

Will definitely rent...I want to see it but it's not worth the price of going to the theater and babysitting.

Well, I saw the movie today. All I can say is that it's a fun thrill-ride, but it has some predictability and also some cheesy dialogue.

Watched it during an employee screening. It was what you'd expect it to be and that's just an overall fun action packed film with insane stunts, great action, cheesy dialogue, and explosions. Definitely a turn your brain off type of film and I enjoyed every second of it.
I've never seen the first two so it's safe to say I'd probably love those too. Vin Diesel did an interview with ESPN talking about this and he said filming this was a huge relief for him after Furious 7, as he really needed to laugh, have fun, and make a film that's just fun. He definitely delivered because I had a great time watching this.

Honestly I'm glad you mentioned that because I was really racking my brain trying to figure out why he would have agreed to do a sequel in a film franchise he bailed on in the first place. That makes a ton of sense. Dude probably knows what's up and that it's not gonna be cinema gold, but more along of the lines of he just wanted to have some fun and try to get away from that dark cloud that's been following him around the past few years.

In fact those were his exact words too. He said after Paul died they came to him and said that they were prepared not to release Furious 7 since it wasn't complete at the time, he forged ahead and stated he was obviously under a lot of stress, grief, and burdened to hold himself together at the time. When XXX: The Return of Xander Cage came about he said he just wanted to do a film where he could smile, joke, and have fun with the cast. I really hope this is successful because it was definitely fun and the action blew me away. May end up buying the first two since I loved this one so much.

I re-watched the first one last night for the first time since I originally saw it in the theater. It's such a cheesy, awful movie, but it's so bad that you have to like it at least a little bit. The music, the dialogue, it's all so terrible. I never watched the second one, but after revisiting the first one, I feel like I need to see it and the new one now.

Saw it last night and while it is indeed a vast improvement over the previous two XXX films its still forgettable at best.
That and I don't ever want to see Ruby Rose on the big screen ever again and Micheal Bisping be given an acting role that requires him to speak.
