I was kind of interested in this, then I hear it's almost twice the runtime of the original. I don't know what exactly you could put in this movie that would require that. Now, I'm very interested.

This film is going to be a f***ing monster. Seriously, this will break a billion without even blinking. I finally watched the trailer and instantly thought of this post: Yup! Yes it will. Guaran-damn-teed. It's going to cater to a lot of different demos.

The trailers give me chills! Back in the day I took my neighbors daughter and get cousin to see the animated version of it because her parents couldn't take her. I absolutely loved it! Now here comes the animated version and I'm beyond stoked! Emma Watson is PERFECTLY cast as Belle for this. And I love that Ian Mackellan is Cogsworth. Disney looks to have hit another home run.

She's doing nothing for me as Belle. I liked the Gaston clip, though.

I would guess that they added the stuff from the Broadway show in. A lot of it was made up of stuff they cut from the original movie.

Re:LeFou being openly gay. The margin of error for that is razor-thin. That changes him, Gaston, their relationship, and the motivations for their actions late in the movie. Do it right, they look like geniuses. Trip across the finish line, it's an unnecessary risk and a missed opportunity. Not to mention Disney is still a family-oriented company and, unfortunately, there WILL be a few people who get offended by that and won't see it again, hurting the movie's repeat business. Repeat viewings are what's going to be the difference between a 1 billion dollar movie, and a 2 billion dollar movie.
Either way, I do applaud them for saying "f*** it" and just going for it.

It's already getting banned by a drive-in in Alabama. Which is surprising since they're such a forward thinking state. 😒 This comes out the day before my birthday, I want to see a lot of movies this month.

I think pushing the "this is a feminist story now!" and "look it's a gay character" narratives was a mistake. It can get tiresome. It'll still make shitloads of money, but there's always the potential of a Ghostbusters-style backlash when many movie fans just get sick of hearing it. I'm a progressive person but even I'm getting weary of it with this film. LeFou was just a sycophantic mook, that's all. He's the little shitberg who hangs around with the bully. He didn't need much more than that.

Meh, I'll just stick with the animated version.
At least that doesn't have Emma Watson

I have no problem with their being a gay character in it. I do think just putting one in there just because is pretty dumb. Like I don't think anyone would think better or worse of it either way

Yeah, this honestly looks pretty bad. Emma Watson is a bad actress and I don't like how foppish Gaston is.

If Disney really want to do something bold, they should create a new princess or prince who happens to be gay. The story can be a typical Disney romance, only with a same sex relationship. That would really be breaking new ground for them. Just add a few good songs and a comedy sidekick, and they should be good to go.

It's not been explicitly stated by Disney, but people have pointed out things about it that could possibly fit.

Sadly, I have a feeling the same people who would be bothered by the revelation wouldn't be happy if Disney created an original queer character either. Whether they want to use an established character or a new one as their first major LGBTQ protagonist, I'm fine so long as they eventually do it.

Like I don't think anyone would think better or worse of it either way I have no problem either, my problem is that they're basically beating people over the head with "He's gay! He's attracted to men! And did we mention that he's gay?" They might as well just hang a sign on his neck with the word on it the way they're doing it. If not careful, this could be as cringe worthy as when homosexuality was first shown on TV. Why not just drop a few hints to it that people can catch onto rather than making a big show out of it and make it seem like that's there entire character?

Maybe it's just me but when I saw Beauty and the Beast again as an adult I thought that LeFou was in love with Gaston so this really doesn't bother me at all.

The drive-in that banned this movie is about 30 minutes or so from where I grew up. It's a town that encapsulates every awful thing about the south. Extreme poverty, openly racist, most are uneducated, inbreeding, and almost everyone is addicted to meth or pain pills. It's in area called "Sand Mountain" that's notorious for being one of the most racist sections of the south. They take pride (Or used to) in having multiple Sun Down Towns. I say all of this to sort of paint the picture of what kind of people these are. Again, I grew up around the area, so this isn't something I assume. I know it to be fact. Also, that particular drive-in just went under new ownership. They absolute did this for publicity and to appeal to the ignorant that fills the communities around the theater.
ANYWAY. I'm really looking forward to this movie and will see it opening night.
