NXT #274: April 22nd, 2015 – Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida
JOHNNY GARGANO AND TOMMASO CIAMPA DEF. THE LEGIONNAIRES IN 3:06; Getting right into the action this week, the new duo of Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa continued their momentum by besting Sylvester Lefort and Marcus Louis. They won following a superkick/knee strike combo on Louis.
Backstage, Devin Taylor interviewed Baron Corbin. She asked him about his recent issues with Shelton Benjamin. Corbin called them “non-issues” because Benjamin isn’t on his level. “My job is to beat people up and they pay me handsomely for it. Shelton Benjamin had that job before and failed at it, so he’s back to try again. I don’t care what he does against Finn Balor tonight, because if he ever steps in the ring with me, I’ll send him back to China or Spain or wherever he’s been for the past few years.”
An advertisement ran to promote Backlash, which airs this Sunday on the WWE Network!
Devin Taylor interviewed Dana Brooke, asking what’s next for the “Total Diva.” Dana first admitted that the loss to Charlotte was a setback. “But Charlotte knew how close I was to beating her, in only my second match, so she tucked her tail between her legs and ran for Raw and Smackdown.” Dana added that with Charlotte in her rearview mirror, she was turning her attention to the NXT Women’s Title.
SOLOMON CROWE DEF. EVAN BOURNE IN 6:01; Both men competed in recent weeks, with Bourne picking up a win and Crowe struggling. That changed here, in a rematch from TakeOver a few months ago. Bourne got put in the Stretch Muffler and had no choice but to submit.
William Regal was shown in his office, when NXT Champion Kevin Owens entered. Owens wanted to know why Regal asked him there. Regal informed him that he chose his next challenger for the NXT Title. “By virtue of a string of victories in recent weeks, your opponent at TakeOver: Unstoppable, will be Hideo Itami.” The crowd popped, but Kevin Owens was livid. He screamed his protest in Regal’s fact. “This is because of what happened with Finn Balor isn’t it? He’s your little golden boy of NXT and when I was about to end him, Hideo stuck his nose in my business and you want to reward him.” Regal advised him to step back, which Owens did, only after knocking things off Regal’s desk.
An ad was shown to promote the upcoming WWE gear from Tapout.
ALEXA BLISS W/ BLAKE AND MURPHY DEF. BRIT BAKER IN 2:29; A relatively easy victory for Alexa Bliss, captured by hitting Twisted Bliss.
Viewers were taken to a special video package showcasing Bayley. The woman formerly known as Davina Rosa has dreamt about being a professional wrestler her entire life. Bayley read an essay she wrote in high school about wanting to be Women’s Champion and an elite performer. At TakeOver: Fatal-4-Way, Bayley came closer than ever to achieving that dream, only to tap out at the hands of Sasha Banks. Instead of staying down, Bayley picked herself up and clawed back to the top. She now has one more shot at the title at TakeOver: Unstoppable. The wrench thrown in is the addition of Becky Lynch, who will be the feature in next week’s Women’s Title preview video.
A WWE Shop advert ran.
NON-TITLE MATCH: AUSTIN ARIES AND BOBBY ROODE DEF. RIDDICK MOSS AND TINO SABBATELLI IN 1:32; NXT’s Tag Team Champions quickly put away their opponents in dominating fashion.
Devin Taylor stood by with Hideo Itami. She asked him for his thoughts on being named the number one contender for the NXT Championship. Hideo said it’s what he’s been waiting for since coming to NXT. Finn Balor entered the picture, staring down Hideo. Finn broke the tension by extending his hand. Hideo shook it and Finn congratulated him. “Nobody deserves it more. Now I’m gonna go out there and win, get back on track and after you beat Kevin Owens for the NXT Title, I’m coming for the first shot.” Hideo nodded in agreement.
SHELTON BENJAMIN DEF. FINN BALOR IN 10:21; The struggles continued to for Finn Balor. He looked great early on, overwhelming Benjamin with his speed. Shelton gained control by overpowering Balor. They traded offense until Finn delivered Bloody Sunday. Benjamin got his foot on the bottom rope to break the pin, frustrating Finn. He climbed to the top for the Coup de Grace, but it gave Benjamin the time to get up. He jumped to the top and pulled Finn off with an avalanche Paydirt to score the win.
“Shelton Benjamin just picked up his biggest win since arriving here in NXT,” said Jason Albert. Shelton Benjamin celebrated and left up the ramp. Once he was gone, Finn Balor sat in the center of the ring with a dejected look on his face. “For his first few months here, Finn Balor was unstoppable. That loss to Kevin Owens has stumped him. Where does he go from here?” asked Rich Brennan.

Cruiserweight Classic #4: April 22nd, 2015 – Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida
Following the opening Cruiserweight Classic video and introductions from Mauro Ranallo and William Regal, viewers were taken to Bracketology. This week’s guest analyst was former Cruiserweight Champion Chavo Guerrero Jr. He hyped the matches for tonight and potential second round matchups
A video package ran to showcase the competitors in the opening contest. First up, Anthony Bennett. The man with the “freshest high top in the business” is a product of “The World Famous Monster Factory” and likes to have a good time. His opponent, Rich Swann, is also one of the more fun loving participants. Swann has won championships in places like FIP, Dragon Gate and RevPro. Despite being just 168lbs, he holds a 20lbs advantage over his opponent. CRUISERWEIGHT CLASSIC FIRST ROUND – RICH SWANN DEF. ANTHONY BENNETT IN 3:44; Following the obligatory handshake, these two had a small dance off to the delight of the Full Sail faithful. Bennett showed off a few impressive offensive moves, but Swann was a step ahead. He advanced with a 450 splash and will face Andrade Almas in the next round. Viewers were taken to a video package that hyped the next match. First up, Sean Maluta. The 27 year-old is representing American Samoa in this tournament. He is a member of the hallowed Anoa’i wrestling family that has spawned some of the greatest names in this business, including Rikishi, Umaga, The Usos and Roman Reigns. His opponent is none other than the “Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay. The explosive Brit doesn’t turn 22 for another few weeks and is one of the youngest participants in this tournament. However, he’s already found plenty of success in places like PROGRESS and Revolution Pro Wrestling. He’s only been competing for just over three years to Maluta’s ten, but is considered a prodigy by name. CRUISERWEIGHT CLASSIC FIRST ROUND – WILL OSPREAY DEF. SEAN MALUTA IN 6:44; This was one of the more competitive matches of the tournament. With Ospreay being the hotter, bigger name, many thought he would easily win this. Maluta was not to be denied though, busting out a running powerbomb and huge savate kick for near falls. Ospreay fought back and pulled out the victory with the Oscutter. In what’s sure to be a wild match, Ospreay faces Kota Ibushi in the next round.
Keeping the pace going this week, another video package followed the prior match. One participant in the next match didn’t need much of an introduction. Alex Shelley has been making waves in the industry for over a decade. The Detroit native has starred in places like Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling, winning titles at every level. His opponent doesn’t have that kind of reputation, but isn’t letting that stop him. The brash Mexican has traveled the world in effort to become a top cruiserweight and winning this tournament solidifies that claim. He mixes stiff strikes with high flying and has appeared in places like AAA and Pro Wrestling NOAH.
CRUISERWEIGHT CLASSIC FIRST ROUND – ALEX SHELLEY DEF. RAUL MENDOZA IN 5:25; The crowd was rather one-sided for this. Though Mendoza showed off some impressive moves, the fans were way behind Shelley. Mendoza came close with some flash pins, but was then trapped in the Border City Stretch, scoring Shelley the win. In round two, two veterans clash when Shelley meets The Brian Kendrick.
No messing around this week, going straight to the fourth and final preview video of the evening. This was the doozy. One of the top tag teams in the world for the past few years, the members of reDRagon drew one another in the opening round. Bobby Fish is the veteran, as the 35 year-old New York native has been competing for thirteen years. He has an MMA background and is known for mixing the mat wrestling with his heavy strikes. His usual partner and this week’s opponent, Kyle O’Reilly, wrestles a similar style. Blending ground work with stiff shots, the 28 year-old Canadian is just as lethal as his partner. Together, they’ve done amazing things, winning ROH’s World Tag Team Titles several times and capturing the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Titles last year. Separately, one has to give the edge to O’Reilly, who won more singles gold in his career.
Backstage, Devin Taylor conducted a rare CWC interview. She stood by with both Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish, gathering their thoughts on this match. Kyle spoke first, saying he’s always felt like he belonged in the WWE and winning the Cruiserweight Classic would prove him right. Fish had a slightly different take. “You see, I had doubts I’d make it to this point. Not based on skill, because I am the best this tournament has to offer, but because my time seemed to have passed. How many guys are getting opportunities like this at 35? Kyle, I love ya, but if you think you or anyone else is getting in the way of this, you’re sorely mistaken.” With that, Fish walked away.
CRUISERWEIGHT CLASSIC FIRST ROUND – KYLE O’REILLY DEF. BOBBY FISH IN 10:46; In what many would call the best match of the first round, the reDRagon partners went toe to toe. It started out as friendly competition, but aggression and determination took over Bobby Fish. He started bringing stiffer strikes and held a submission until the referee’s count of four. Kyle O’Reilly fired up, leaning into Fish’s shots and demanding he hit harder. Kyle delivered Ax and Smash, before applying Armageddon. Fish turned it over into a pin. Kyle kicked out and pulled Fish into a pin of his own to score the three count!
Bobby Fish couldn’t believe that he let this opportunity slip past him. Kyle O’Reilly backed into the corner, not fully believing that he pulled it out. Fish sat across from him, not breaking eye contact. Kyle eased forward and offered his partner his hand. Fish continued to stare blankly, before getting up on his own. The fans booed as Kyle watched his partner get ready to exit. Bobby stopped, turned and accepted Kyle’s handshake, before raising his hand. With that win, O’Reilly booked himself a second round matchup against Matt Riddle.
To close the show Chavo Guerrero spoke over clips from the first round as he set the stage for next week. The second round begins as the UK’s Marty Scurll takes on Japan’s Tajiri and Mexico clashes when Fenix goes one on one with Gran Metalik!

Smackdown #818: April 23rd, 2015 – Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island
The final stop before Backlash opened with the arrival of Dean Ambrose. Ambrose made his first appearance since WrestleMania this past Monday when he teamed with Kurt Angle against Seth Rollins and Sheamus. Dean addressed the WWE Universe, telling them that he was back for good. He left to lick his wounds and regroup after the disappointment of WrestleMania. “The plan is still to do two things. One, is to win that WWE World Heavyweight Title. The other, more pressing goal, is to beat Seth Rollins’ wormy ass all over every arena we go to.” Dean was interrupted by the arrival of Bray Wyatt on the Titantron. Bray welcomed Dean back to the WWE, but told him the same thing he told Brock Lesnar on Monday. “The inmates don’t run this asylum. Seth Rollins is not here tonight, but even if he was, you don’t just get what you want. I make the rules around these parts.” Dean informed him that nobody tells him what to do. Bray laughed and put Dean in a match against the undefeated Alexander Rusev tonight.
ADRIAN NEVILLE, DOLPH ZIGGLER AND JOHN CENA VS. DAMIEN SANDOW, THE MIZ AND TYLER BREZZE; The very popular trio of Neville, Ziggler and Cena held serve for most of this match. Ziggler got isolated as he opposing team cut the ring in half and used quick tags. Cena got the hot tag and cleaned house. Damien Sandow did his best to avoid him, before hitting a low blow behind the referee’s back. Miz attacked Neville outside, so Dolph tagged himself back in. Unfortunately, he walked into a Beauty Shot, giving Breeze’s team the win in 12:44.
A video package ran to hype the upcoming CM Punk/Daniel Bryan match at Backlash. The former partners clashed at WrestleMania, with Punk stealing a victory. Bryan made Punk tap out a few weeks ago and Punk will not let that be the last image of their rivalry.
Renee Young stood by with WWE Women’s Champion AJ Lee. She was asked for her thoughts on Paige and Emma meeting in a No Holds Barred match next Monday. AJ said that didn’t mean anything to her. “Whatever happens after Backlash is irrelevant because there won’t be anything left of Emma after I get done with her. She’s gonna pay for everything she’s done to me over the past five months.”
CHARLOTTE VS. SUMMER RAE; Charlotte has been impressive since arriving on the main roster. A jealous Summer Rae issued this challenge and found herself in trouble almost instantly. Summer escaped outside and caught a charging Charlotte with a knee to the stomach. She then choked Charlotte with a cable until the referee counted to five, causing a DQ in 2:28. Summer refused to let go while Charlotte’s face turned blue. Finally, an official managed to pry her off. “What the hell has gotten into Summer Rae?” asked Byron Saxton.
A vignette ran of the Ascension. They promised to take teams to the Wasteland and capture the Tag Team Titles.
RANDY ORTON VS. RYBACK; Cody Rhodes joined commentary to discuss the newfound respect between he and Randy Orton. Cody remained unsure of how legitimate it was. Ryback showcased the power we’ve all come to expect from him. He dominated portions of the match, but Orton connected on an RKO from out of nowhere to win in 8:04. Orton celebrated as Cody looked on. Somewhere backstage, the New Day addressed the WWE Universe. Xavier woods spoke first, saying there’s a disease in the WWE. “Everyone’s upset about something. Brock Lesnar can’t get the title shot he wants. Dean Ambrose is mad at Seth Rollins. Paige and AJ Lee basically want to destroy Emma. Everyone’s mad that Bray Wyatt’s running things.” Big E chimed in, saying everyone was being too negative. Kofi Kingston joined in, “You see, negativity is the disease and we, we are the cure.” The New Day said they would remedy the infection that is negativity in the WWE.
THE LUCHA DRAGONS VS. THE PRIME TIME PLAYERS; Two of the more popular tandems in the WWE competes in an effort to move up the tag team ranks. Titus O’Neil’s power gave his team the upper hand for a while, before Sin Cara and Kalisto began flying around the ring. O’Neill was taken out by a Cara tope suicida, leaving Darren Young open to fall to the Salida Del Sol in 5:28.
A special video package aired to hype the upcoming WWE World Heavyweight Title match at Backlash. Highlights of Kurt Angle’s return and rivalry with Seth Rollins were shown, set to “Gravity” by Hollywood Undead.
NON-TITLE MATCH: ALEXANDER RUSEV W/ LANA VS. DEAN AMBROSE; This first time ever match saw Alexander Rusev toss Dean Ambrose around with relative ease. Ambrose refused to quit, finding ways to rack up several near falls. He hooked Rusev for Dirty Deeds, but Rusev shoved him to the outside, falling out with him. While there, WWE Champion Seth Rollins ran out and superkicked Dean as he got up, resulting in a DQ at 10:56.
Seth Rollins rolled Dean Ambrose in the ring, where Alexander Rusev followed. Seth set up for the Curb Stomp, when Roman Reigns’ theme hit the speakers. The fans erupted as Reigns rushed to the ring. He went to attack Rollins, but the WWE Champion ducked and slithered out of the ring. Rusev leveled Reigns with a right hand and backed him to the corner. He continued to pummel him until Ambrose nailed him from behind. Rusev fought him off a bit, but turned around into a Superman Punch. He rolled outside, while Seth backed up the ramp, leaving Reigns and Ambrose to stand tall together in the ring.

The Kickoff Show opened with shots of the crowd filing in at the Allstate Arena before our esteemed panel of Renee Young, Booker T, Byron Saxton and future Hall of Famer Chris Jericho. Jericho spoke about his affection for the Allstate Arena, as he’s had great matches there and it’s the building where he made his debut. They discussed some of the matches tonight, including CM Punk facing Daniel Bryan in a Submissions match. Jericho noted that no matter what horrible things CM Punk does, this arena will treat him like a god. They talked about a few more things for tonight, before sending things to the ring for our Kickoff match.
CHARLOTTE VS. SUMMER RAE; This past Thursday on Smackdown, Summer Rae challenged Charlotte, only to choke her with a ringside cable until she turned blue. On a WWE.com interview, Summer stated that Charlotte didn’t belong in her position and only got it because of her last name. Charlotte came out aggressively, going after Summer and being held back by the referee. “Charlotte has every reason to be livid,” said Michael Cole. Once the match began, Summer went outside and ran from Charlotte. She slid in, looking for a cheap stomp, but Charlotte avoided it. “When you’re the daughter of the dirtiest player in the game, you learn a thing or two,” said Jerry Lawler. With her plan having backfired, Summer was in a world of trouble, taking a beating from Charlotte. The former NXT Women’s Champion went to work on Summer’s neck with a variety of moves. Summer avoided a moonsault and hit a big spinning heel kick for a near fall. She added a snap suplex, before choking Charlotte with her boot in the corner. She went for the Summer Crush, but Charlotte blocked it and grabbed her leg. She tripped her down to go for the Figure Four. Summer pulled her into a small package for another two count. As they got up, Summer charged with a clothesline, but Charlotte dropped into a split to duck it. Once up, she dropped Summer with a big boot. As Summer got to her knees, Charlotte hit Natural Selection to score the win. Charlotte defeated Summer Rae in 5:04! “Charlotte has shut Summer Rae and proven that she belongs here on the main roster,” said Jerry Lawler. The self-proclaimed “Queen” celebrated her win over Summer Rae. In an act of arrogance, Charlotte wiped her feet on the mat, basically kicking proverbial dirt on Summer Rae.
Following the signature WWE intro, a video package set to Hollywood Undead’s “Gravity” was shown. It opened with Kurt Angle stepping through the curtain as he returned the night after WrestleMania. His rivalry with Seth Rollins comes to a head tonight in Angle’s first WWE World Heavyweight Title match in nine years. The wildcard is the recently returned Dean Ambrose, who has an unsettled score with Rollins. The video then shifted focus to the undefeated run of Alexander Rusev. He had his greatest moment at WrestleMania, where he sent back the challenge of 14-time World Champion, John Cena. On that same night, Roman Reigns couldn’t beat his former Shield brothers, losing in the main event. Tonight, Reigns takes his best shot at Rusev. Lastly, CM Punk and Daniel Bryan are former Tag Team Champions and friends. Punk turned on Bryan, leaving them in the midst of a heated rivalry that saw Punk go as far as to hit Bryan’s wife, Brie, with a Go to Sleep. Punk underhandedly won at WrestleMania and refused to give Bryan a rematch, until Bryan made him tap out. Not wanting it to end that way, Punk agreed to a Submissions match for tonight.
Cameras cut to the sold out Allstate Arena, as the commentary trio of Mauro Ranallo, Byron Saxton and Booker T welcomed everyone to Backlash.
DAMIEN SANDOW VS. JOHN CENA; Since WrestleMania, John Cena’s been running through the roster in an effort to get back into title contention. Standing in his way was Damien Sandow, a man who lost to Cena in his one World Heavyweight Title shot. “You can see the disdain on Damien Sandow’s face,” said Byron Saxton. They went to lock up, only for Sandow to rake Cena’s eyes. From there, he backed Cena into the corner and fired away. He continued with stomps before connecting on a DDT for two. Sandow made a mistake by setting too early on a backdrop, allowing Cena to hop on his back and hit a rare Code Red for a near fall. “Where did that come from?” asked Mauro Ranallo. Despite being the first to bust on a big offensive move, Cena was grounded by Sandow, who looked to negate Cena’s power. He hit the Elbow of Disdain, complete with a loud, “You’re welcome” to the crowd. Sandow added a neckbreaker, only for Cena to fire back up. He hit a flurry of offense, including the Five Knuckle Shuffle, before delivering the Attitude Adjustment. He was too hurt to make the cover instantly, though, allowing Sandow to roll to the apron. Cena grabbed him for a suplex into the ring, but Sandow wriggled free, landing on his feet behind Cena. From there, he delivered Terminus. Cena got his shoulder up and Sandow was bewildered. “I think Sandow is beginning to doubt himself,” said Saxton. As he went to lift Cena, he ate a right hand. Sandow escaped a second Attitude Adjustment, only for Cena to trap him in the STF, causing Sandow to tap out. John Cena defeated Damien Sandow in 7:35!
John Cena leapt to his feet and pumped his fist. “We don’t know what’s next for John Cena, but we do know that he’s one step closer to a shot at some championship gold again,” said Ranallo. A shamed Damien Sandow rolled out of the ring, while a very serious Cena looked determined on his road back to the top of the WWE.
In the back, Renee Young stood by with WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins. She asked him about having to look over his shoulder for Dean Ambrose when he needs to focus on Kurt Angle. Seth scoffed at this, saying it didn’t concern him. “Renee, when you’ve got this championship, you’re the best. Kurt Angle doesn’t worry me and neither does Dean Ambrose. I crushed his hopes and dreams at WrestleMania and I’m gonna do the same to Kurt Angle. Neither of them should’ve wasted their time returning.”
WWE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS – TYSON KIDD AND CESARO [C] W/ NATALYA VS. THE USOS; The night after WrestleMania, Tyson Kidd and Cesaro shocked the world by dethroning the Usos of their Tag Team Titles after just 24 hours. With the element of surprise gone, Kidd and Cesaro stumbled out of the blocks. The more experiences Usos came out hot, sending the champions outside and giving us some FLYING USOS. “Oh mah goodness, the champions need to take a moment to regroup,” said Booker. That’s exactly what Kidd and Cesaro did, stopping to talk strategy with Natalya. The match calmed down from there, but the Usos remained in control. Kidd found himself isolated, as the former two-time champs used frequent tags to wear him down in the corner. Kidd slipped free with an enziguri and got the tag to Cesaro. The strong half of the time hit everything moving, mowing down both Usos with uppercuts and a variety of slams. “Cesaro was built for this kind of thing,” said Saxton. He launched Jey in air with the popup uppercut, but Jimmy broke up the count. Jey remained the legal man, now being the one picked apart by his opponents. Kidd and Cesaro focused on his back, leading to Kidd applying the Sharpshooter. Jimmy charged in, but Cesaro put him in on as well! The fans popped for the stereo Sharpshooters, but the referee forced Cesaro to break to get back to his corner. Meanwhile, Jey reached the ropes. Kidd tagged out and they set for the big swing/dropkick combo. However, Jey pulled Cesaro into a small package. Kidd broke it up, but Jey slipped away and tagged in Jimmy as the referee moved Kidd back to the apron. Jimmy came in with superkicks and Samoan drops galore. He hit a splash off the top, but Natalya got on the apron. She shouted, “They never tagged! The twins switched behind your back,” to the referee. Jimmy gave her a confused look, but the pause was enough for Cesaro to get up and run through him with an uppercut that sent him flying into the turnbuckles. Kidd pulled Jey off the apron, while Cesaro covered Jey for the victory. Tyson Kidd and Cesaro defeated The Usos to retain the WWE Tag Team Championships in 12:35!
Natalya hopped down and retrieved the Tag Team Titles from the timekeeper’s table. She ran over and handed them to Tyson Kidd and Cesaro, who raised them high as they headed up the ramp. Jey Uso entered the ring to check on his brother and argue with the referee about what Natalya did. “By hook or by crook, Tyson Kidd and Cesaro just beat the Usos for a second straight time,” said Booker T.
An advertisement ran to plug the highlights of the WWE Network for the month of May, including the return of the Elimination Chamber, on May 31st. Before the next match, a video package was shown. Back in November, Emma turned her back on her best friend, Paige, and won the elusive WWE Women’s Championship. During her reign, the paranoid woman sent back all challengers, but things were taken to the next level with AJ Lee. Not only did Emma beat her at TLC, but she also sent AJ to the hospital after kicking her head into a mirror. AJ dethroned Emma at WrestleMania, and though Emma was granted her rematch, she’s had to deal with Paige threatening her on a weekly basis. AJ Lee was sure to remind Emma that Paige was not her biggest concern, promising to leave next to nothing of Emma for Paige tomorrow night on Raw.WWE WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP – AJ LEE [C] VS. EMMA; The usually confident Emma remained as tentative as she’s been since Paige began stalking her. That was only heightened when AJ Lee charged her at the bell and tackled her to the ground. AJ wailed on her with a flurry of right hands, before slamming her head into the mat repeatedly. “AJ Lee was not kidding when she warned Emma about tonight,” said Byron Saxton. Emma rolled outside to escape, but AJ followed. AJ threw her into the barricade and the announce table. Emma finally managed to grab AJ and pull her into the ring post. She broke the count, before taking a moment to gather herself. Having the advantage, Emma grounded AJ and put her focus on the neck. “If she can apply the Emma Lock, AJ Lee might have no choice but to tap out,” said Mauro Ranallo. Emma delivered the Emmamite Sandwich in the corner and threw in the Dilemma, but AJ Lee refused to stay down. AJ kicked Emma in the leg, dropping her to a knee, where she then hit a Shining Wizard. She went for the cover, but stopped. “What is she doing?” asked Saxton. AJ picked Emma up and tossed her into the corner. She then unloaded a flurry of kicks, sending Emma to the ground. She continued the assault with a DDT and neckbreaker. Finally, AJ applied the Black Widow, but Emma was too close to the ropes. The referee began his count, with AJ making sure to hold on until he reached four. She let Emma go and dragged her to the middle of the ring, looking to put the hold back on. Emma wriggled free and planted AJ with the Michinoku Driver! She took a moment to cover, giving AJ just enough time to get a shoulder up. Emma was stunned, but also still hurt. She tried slapping on the Emma Lock, only for AJ to roll over and kick her to the ropes. AJ quickly got up and caught the rebounding Emma in the Black Widow! Emma tried for the ropes again, but was too far and had to tap. AJ Lee defeated Emma to retain the WWE Women’s Championship in 11:10!
AJ Lee didn’t release the submission immediately, causing the referee to count her down again. He threatened to reverse the decision, which finally made AJ let go. She backed away from the fallen Emma, seemingly surprised at how far her anger nearly took her. She exited with her title, leaving Emma to lick her wounds. “In about 24 hours, Emma’s gotta regroup and face a dangerous Paige in a No Holds Barred match,” said Mauro Ranallo.
The Kickoff panel took over for a moment, as clips were shown of Charlotte’s victory over Summer Rae on the Kickoff show were shown. Backstage, Eden Stiles stood by with The Miz. She asked for his thoughts on competing in the Intercontinental Title match without Summer Rae at ringside due to being banged up from the Kickoff show. Miz claimed Summer shouldn’t have put herself in that situation. “My career comes first. I’m the reason she’s a star and she needs to understand that. That being said, I don’t need her to win the Intercontinental Title tonight. I’ve done this very thing on my own twice before.” Miz guaranteed to make it a third tonight, with or without Summer.
Viewers were now taken to a video package, chronicling the recent rivalry between CM Punk and Daniel Bryan. At WrestleMania, Punk beat Bryan by using the ropes for leverage. Bryan demanded a rematch, but Punk continued to deny him. Bryan then made Punk tap out in a tag team match. Driven mad by the idea that Bryan would get the last laugh, Punk agreed to a rematch and it will be held under Submission rules.SUBMISSIONS MATCH – CM PUNK VS. DANIEL BRYAN; The tension was palpable from before the opening bell. The two men came face to face and traded strikes as soon as the bell sounded. Bryan’s shots sent Punk to the corner, where he proceeded to hit three consecutive dropkicks to the face. Bryan mounted Punk, firing off rights and lefts, with the occasional headbutt thrown in for good measure. Punk shoved him off, dumping Bryan outside. Punk quickly got to his feet and went for a tope suicida, but Bryan was ready and redirected him into the announce table. “CM Punk just crashed, back first, right in front of us,” said Byron Saxton. Punk writhed around in agony, holding his back. Bryan didn’t let up, stomping on his back and sending him into the steel steps. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen this side of Daniel Bryan,” said Mauro Ranallo. Bryan took a swing at Punk, who ducked, causing Bryan to hit the ring post. Punk sense an opening, going after Bryan’s arm with a divorce court. He took things back in the ring, where he applied an armbar. Bryan struggled in the hold and reached for the ropes. When that failed, he managed to maneuver himself out and deliver a back suplex. Bryan stepped on Punk’s leg and pulled him into the surfboard. Punk let out a loud scream. He failed to wriggle free. Finally, Punk managed to use momentum to roll to the side out of the move. Bryan went after Punk, only to get tripped up. Bryan got to his knees, where Punk unleashed a barrage of kicks to the arm. Bryan’s arm dangled, but he fought back with slaps from his opposite hand. He ducked a shot from Punk and connected on a Regal Plex. Bryan pounced, going right into the Yes Lock! The fans came to their feet, sensing the end. Punk found a way to grab Bryan’s arm and turn it into the Anaconda Vice. “D-Bry's arm is finished,” said Booker T. Bryan struggled, yet couldn’t get free. He made it to the ropes, but it had no effect in this kind of match. Bryan used the ropes to pull himself to the apron. He fell outside, causing Punk’s grip to break. A furious Punk took a moment to collect himself. He saw Bryan getting up slowly and considered something. He decided to go for it, successfully hitting a tope suicida. Punk rolled Bryan back inside and climbed to the top. He pointed to the sky and jumped off for the elbow drop. However, Bryan moved himself into position to catch him in a triangle choke! Punk got his foot on the bottom rope, but again, that doesn’t break the hold. He tried lifting Bryan into a powerbomb, but his back gave out. Bryan added elbow strikes to Punk’s head! As Punk began to fade, the referee lifted his arm. It dropped. A second lift. It dropped. Before he could do the third, Punk slipped free and turned it back into the Anaconda Vice! “CM Punk was playing possum!” exclaimed Mauro. Bryan fought hard, with the struggle moving them away from the ropes. He found a way to get his free arm wrapped around Punk’s head, pulling him over. Bryan then transitioned into the Cattle Mutilation! With nowhere to go, Punk tapped out. Daniel Bryan defeated CM Punk in 18:32! “Daniel Bryan did it! He had to revert to a move he hasn’t done in years, but he made CM Punk tap out again,” shouted Mauro Ranallo. Daniel Bryan rolled to his side, clutching his arm. He got helped up by the referee and raised his good arm in the air. A frustrated CM Punk crawled to the outside, watching Bryan in the ring. Brie Bella surprisingly made her way to down to the ring. She hugged her husband and celebrated with him as a fuming Punk left with his head down.
An ad ran to promote the next WWE special, Payback, airing live on the WWE Network and Pay-Per-View on May 17th from Baltimore, Maryland!CODY RHODES VS. RANDY ORTON; This WrestleMania rematch started with Randy Orton offering a handshake. Cody Rhodes accepted it and they locked up. They exchanged a few grapples, with neither man gaining the upper hand. Orton backed Cody into the corner and gave a clean break. They locked up again, went to the opposite corner, and Cody gave the clean break this time. “About as fair a fight as you could ask for up to this point,” said Byron Saxton. Orton looked to ground Cody, which he did at WrestleMania. However, Cody was ready, consistently finding ways to slip free and hit higher impact offense. Cody escaped a headlock and ran up the turnbuckles to nail a moonsault. He also countered a chinlock and delivered the Alabama Slam. Orton kicked out of both. He picked up the pace when he caught Cody with a Lou Thez Press. Orton followed with the rope hung DDT and added the snap powerslam. “Randy Orton’s got things going his way,” said Booker T. Orton started pounding on the mat for the RKO. He hit it to a pop from the crowd, but Cody got his foot on the bottom rope to break the count. Orton put his hands on his head in disbelief. He backed up to the corner and sized Cody up. “He’s not going for what I think he’s going for, is he?” asked Saxton. Orton ran forward for the Punt, but stopped just shy of Cody. He reconsidered his next move and went for the RKO again as Cody got up. Cody shoved him into the corner to block it. Orton bounced out, right into position for the Cross Rhodes. Orton managed to spin out the connect on the RKO, securing the victory. Randy Orton defeated Cody Rhodes in 10:46!
The fans cheered for the quality effort from both men. Randy Orton had his hand raised, but pulled away to help Cody Rhodes to his feet. A battered Cody was unsure what to make of this, until Randy raised his arm as well. “A great show of sportsmanship from the Viper tonight. He’s really turned over a new leaf,” said Mauro Ranallo.
An advertisement ran to plug the Cruiserweight Classic. Renee Young stood by with the number one contender for the United States Championship, Roman Reigns. She wanted his thoughts on facing an undefeated “Super Athlete” like Alexander Rusev. Roman claimed he didn’t buy into any of that. “Trust me, I know how dangerous Rusev is. I just don’t think he’s unbeatable. Everybody has a weakness and his is right here.” Reigns showed off his fist to the camera, smirked and finished with, “Believe that.”
WWE INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP – ADRIAN NEVILLE [C] VS. DOLPH ZIGGLER VS. THE MIZ VS. TYLER BREEZE; As soon as the bell rang, Dolph Ziggler ran and superkicked Adrian Neville to the outside. “There are no friends in a Fatal Four Way,” exclaimed Mauro Ranallo. Dolph realized he made a mistake when Miz communicated with Tyler Breeze that they should work together. Dolph tried fighting them off, but the numbers overcame him. Miz held Ziggler in place and advised Breeze to hit the Beauty Shot. Breeze obliged, but Miz then rolled him up for two. Miz backed away from a pissed Breeze. He was saved by Neville returning and hitting Breeze with a huge reverse rana. Miz went to attack Neville, but the champion was ready, catching him with a spin kick to the ribs. Neville noticed Ziggler and Breeze getting up outside, so he flew out with a handspring corkscrew plancha that got the crowd on their feet. He rolled back inside, where Miz waited with stomps. Miz set Neville on the top, but got chop blocked by Breeze. Breeze climbed up, looking to superplex Miz. Neville got under him and powerbombed Breeze, bringing Neville down in a huge superplex. “Mama Mia!” shouted Mauro. Ziggler crawled in and covered Neville, but Miz broke it up. Ziggler and Miz went at it, with Ziggler putting him in the sleeper hold. Meanwhile, Breeze put Neville in a half crab. Breeze and Ziggler stared each down as they reared back on their submissions, seeing who would win first. Miz began to fade, so Breeze let go and broke up the sleeper. Ziggler fell outside and Breeze quickly covered Miz, who just barely managed to get his shoulder up. Breeze sized Miz up and went for the Beauty Shot, but Miz ducked. He was still too hurt to stand, falling into the corner. Neville took Breeze to the opposite corner to hit a monkey flip. Miz walked towards them and Breeze caught him with a rana out of the monkey flip. Neville charged to Breeze and caught a supermodel kick. He spun Breeze around and hit a big lariat. Neville added a standing shooting star press, but Ziggler returned to pull him off the pin. From there, Neville and Ziggler started exchanging strikes, kicks and headbutts. “This is what Dolph’s wanted since WrestleMania,” said Booker T. Ziggler knocked Neville to the corner and fought with Miz. He went for the Zig Zag on Miz. Miz held onto the ropes to block it. As Ziggler hit the mat, Neville had climbed up and landed on him with the Red Arrow. Miz tossed Neville off Ziggler and took the cover, but Breeze also got on Ziggler. They tried shoving one another off. Neville climbed back to the top and nailed an imploding 450 splash onto all three men. Ziggler and Miz fell to the side, while Neville pinned Ziggler to retain. Adrian Neville defeated Dolph Ziggler, The Miz and Tyler Breeze to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship in 15:16!
The exhausted men remained on the mat for a few moments. Adrian Neville was first to get up, clutching his Intercontinental Title tightly once handed to him. Tyler Breeze rolled outside, holding his lower back in pain. Dolph Ziggler remained motionless, while Miz stared a hole through Neville, fuming about the loss.
A video package aired that highlighted the dominant run of Alexander Rusev. Since debuting over a year ago, Rusev has run through everyone in his way. He defeated several former World Champions, from Booker T to Rob Van Dam to Chris Jericho and finally, John Cena at WrestleMania. The night after, Roman Reigns made his quest for the United States Title clear and promised to be the first man to pin Rusev.WWE UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP – ALEXANDER RUSEV [C] W/ LANA VS. ROMAN REIGNS; Both men came face to face as tension built. As soon as the bell hit, Reigns delivered an uppercut that barely affected Rusev. Reigns looked like he’d seen a ghost. Rusev brushed it off and wailed on Reigns with a barrage of strikes. He backed Reigns to the corner and continued with the shots. Rusev spent the next few minutes picking Reigns apart and wearing him down. He put the focus on Reigns’ back. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen Roman Reigns dominated like this,” said Byron Saxton. Reigns began a comeback, hitting a powerslam and his signature apron dropkick. He got back inside and signaled for the Superman Punch. Rusev avoided it, with Reigns hitting the corner, and Rusev striking him in the lower back. He added a German suplex for a near fall. Rusev called for the Accolade, but Reigns slipped free and sent him outside. He followed and threw Rusev into the steel steps. As they went back inside, Reigns avoided a kick from Rusev and rolled him up, holding on and lifting him into a huge powerbomb for two. “The Big Dog showing his big strength,” exclaimed Booker. When they got up, Reigns finally hit the Superman Punch for a near fall. He let out a roar in preparation of the Spear. Sensing danger, Lana got on the apron, distracting Reigns. Rusev stood and superkicked Reigns in the back of the head. He covered, but Reigns got his shoulder up. Rusev turned him over and pulled him to the middle of the ring, applying the Accolade. Reigns did everything he could to escape, but it was no use. “Reigns is trying to do that John Cena couldn’t. He’s trying to break the Accolade,” said Mauro Ranallo. Unlike Cena, Reigns managed to get to his feet, but only for a second as he fell back down. Luckily, he slipped free of Rusev’s grip and landed on his side, breaking the Accolade. Rusev went for the savate kick, but Reigns sidestepped him, hit the ropes and nailed the Spear. Both men were down as Lana panicked at ringside. Reigns used the ropes to help himself get up. Rusev did the same and Reigns blasted him with one more Spear to earn the three count. Roman Reigns defeated Alexander Rusev to win the United States Champion in 13:18!
“I can’t believe what I’m seeing. Alexander Rusev has lost," said Mauro Ranallo. The fans came unglued as Roman Reigns was announced the winner. The color fell from Lana’s face as she gripped the United States Title. It took the referee several seconds to pry it from her and she let out a high-pitched scream. Reigns took the title and held in the air to cheers. “Where does Alexander Rusev go from here?” asked Byron Saxton.
A commercial ran to hype a new show on HBO called “Darkness,” which will be the sponsor for Payback. “Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Paul Heyman.” The fans erupted as Paul Heyman walked out onto the stage. He said that he was here for one reason and one reason only. “To warn Bray Wyatt. You see, last Monday night, you escaped the wrath of the Best, Brock Lesnar. You let your cronies take the beating that was meant for you and that’s fine. But, understand that Brock Lesnar is not finished with you. Understand that you’ve just angered the Beast. Understand that what Brock Lesnar wants, Brock Lesnar gets and he wants two things. One, is his WWE World Heavyweight Championship and two, is to take you on a one way trip to Suplex City.” Heyman slammed down the microphone and walked off to a chorus of cheers.
Next Monday night, immediately following Raw, check out WWE 24, a new documentary series on the WWE Network. A special look at the lives of Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins heading into WrestleMania is the focus of the latest episode. In a dark room somewhere, Bray Wyatt addressed the WWE Universe. Bray stated that he was content to sit back and watch the first Pay-Per-View under his regime, but Paul Heyman forced his hand. “Please, Paul, please bring your so-called Beast around. I’ll be waiting. Whenever he feels like gracing us with his presence, I’ll be ready. And when that time comes, it’ll be Brock Lesnar who has to run.”
Our final video package of the night aired, showcasing the return of Kurt Angle the night after WrestleMania. He made it clear he was coming back to be at the top of his game and the WWE World Heavyweight Title. Standing in the way is the current champion, Seth Rollins. Seth has claimed that Kurt is a has been who has no business competing with him. Tonight, Kurt Angle attempts to win a WWE World Title for the first time in nine years.
WWE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP – SETH ROLLINS [C] VS. KURT ANGLE; Kurt Angle was overwhelmed by the loud ovation he received. Seth Rollins shouted for the fans to shut up. They locked up, with Angle taking Seth to the ground. Seth wriggled free and went for another tie up, only for Kurt to take him down again. “The frustration is clear on the champ’s face,” said Byron Saxton. A third lockup has the same result and on the fourth, Seth resorted to poking Angle in the eye. The referee scolded him for it, but Seth ignored it. He took to kicking away at Angle, who turned it around and fires off a series of right hands. Seth stopped that by hitting an STO into the turnbuckle. Seth wore Angle down, but then got tripped by Angle, who went for the Ankle Lock. Seth scurried to the ropes and pulled himself outside. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen that level of fear in Seth Rollins’ eyes,” said Mauro Ranallo. Angle was fired up, knowing he scared Seth. Angle gave chase outside and Seth slid back inside. He went for a cheap stomp, but Angle was ready. He avoided it and tripped Seth. Angle entered and went off on Seth. He hit a series of uppercuts, followed by several suplex variations. THE STRAPS CAME DOWN! Kurt went for the Ankle Lock again, but Seth got free and delivered a Pele kick, picking up a near fall. When Kurt got up, Seth hit slingblade for another close call. A frustrated Seth went up top and attempted a frog splash. Kurt got his knees up and rolled over into a pin for two. As both men stood, Seth took a swing but Angle ducked and delivered the Angle Slam. “Oh, mah goodness, Kurt’s gonna do it,” said Booker. Angle covered, but Seth got his foot on the bottom rope. Kurt wasted no time, grabbing Seth’s ankle and dragging him to the center of the ring. Again, Seth kicked him away, this time into the corner. Seth sat Kurt on the top and looked for a superplex. Angle fought him off with rights and lefts, then slipped under Seth. He climbed to the middle rope, with Seth facing towards the crowd. Kurt attempted an avalanche German suplex, only for Seth to flip over and land on his feet. “What did I just see?” asked Saxton. Kurt was stunned as he turned to see Seth standing. Seth kicked him in the gut and powerbombed in him into the turnbuckle. Angle looked woozy as he bounced out. Seth hooked him for God’s Last Gift, but Kurt found a way to block it and roll him into an inside cradle. Instead of continuing with the pin, he rolled all the way into Ankle Lock position. He wrenched and twisted as Seth frantically reached for the ropes. He got within inches, only for Kurt to pull him back. That moment allowed Seth to prop up on his arms and flip over, shooting Kurt into the ropes. Seth charged and rolled Kurt up, using the ropes for leverage, to steal the three count. Seth Rollins defeated Kurt Angle to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in 17:02!
Seth Rollins exited the ring as quickly as possible. He ran to the timekeeper’s area, grabbed his title and made it back around to the ramp. Kurt Angle was livid in the ring and pleaded his case to the official. Seth held the title high and celebrated like he just won it for the first time. “John Cena. Daniel Bryan. Dean Ambrose. Roman Reigns. Kurt Angle. That’s the who’s who of this business that Seth Rollins has beaten since winning the WWE World Heavyweight Title. He’s on one of the biggest rolls in WWE history,” said Mauro Ranallo to sign off.

Raw #1144: April 27th, 2015 – Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin
The show opened with a video package showing highlights from Backlash, set to “Gravity” by Hollywood Undead. Following the Raw opening video and commentary introductions, the Resch Center was greeted by the arrival of the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins. Seth walked to the ring with a wide smirk on his face. He got on the microphone, opening with, “I told you so.” Seth laughed at the fans, citing that he has done everything he said he would do when he broke up the Shield. “I told you I’d beat Dean Ambrose and I did. I told you I’d win the Money in the Bank briefcase and I did. I said I’d be WWE World Heavyweight Champion and I am. When I promised to win the main event of WrestleMania, guess what? I did that too. I beat John Cena. I beat Daniel Bryan. I beat Brock Lesnar. And last night, I put the cherry on top of the sundae that has become my career when I beat Kurt freaking Angle.” Seth continued by saying that there was nothing left for him and that he’s beaten everyone put in front of him. “I may as well retire right now, because there’s no one left to topple.”
GOD SAVE OUR QUEEN
The Resch Center came to their feet as Bad News Barrett stepped onto the stage for the first time since November. Seth Rollins looked like he’d just seen a ghost. Barrett had a microphone in his hand. “Seth Rollins. You have beaten everyone in your path and are currently enjoying a successful run as WWE World Heavyweight Champion. BUT I’M AFRAID I’VE GOT SOME BAD NEWS!” The entire crowd said the famous quote with Barrett. He continued, “Your luck’s about to run about because the true holder of the Money in the Bank briefcase is back and I want that title I was so close to.” Barrett entered the ring and his words caused Seth to charge at him. Barrett ducked and Seth hit the ropes. As he came back, Barrett leveled him with the Bull Hammer. With Seth out cold on the mat, Barrett picked up the WWE Title. The fans roared as he held it high in the air. “Bad News Barrett is back!” shouted Michael Cole. Seth Rollins was shown walking backstage, holding his jaw. “I’m sick of this! Every month it’s something new. I’m outta here.” Seth got in his car and promptly left the arena.
CODY RHODES VS. TYLER BREEZE; This first time ever match featured two men who looked to rebound after losses at Backlash. They both came close to doing just that on several occasions. Breeze hit the Beauty Shot, but Cody got his foot on the bottom rope to survive. That frustrated Breeze, and opened the door for Cody to put him away with the Cross Rhodes in 8:17. As Cody celebrated, Randy Orton was shown watching on a monitor.
Renee Young introduced her guest, Alexander Rusev. Rusev burst into the picture by kicking over part of the setup. He let out an angry roar, before Lana entered and advised him to relax. She spoke for him, saying that over a year’s worth of work was ruined by Roman Reigns. “He ruins everything. But, Alexander Rusev is not the ‘Super Athlete’ for no reason. He will be the United States Champion again and he will CRUSH Roman Reigns.” Lana walked off, signaling for a furious Rusev to follow.
An Ascension vignette was shown. Konnor and Viktor stood in what they call, the “Wasteland,” saying it will be where the WWE tag team division is headed once they’re done with them.
CURTIS AXEL VS. JOHN CENA; Fresh off a victory over Damien Sandow, John Cena continued moving back up the ranks by defeating Curtis Axel with the Attitude Adjustment in 3:50. “He just keeps on winning. Who’s next for John Cena?” asked Jerry Lawler.
Renee Young returned, this time to get a word with the man who returned earlier tonight, Bad News Barrett. The fans cheered as he stepped into the picture. She wanted to know more about his return. Barrett said it was straightforward. “I had to take time to heal up after Survivor Series. It was bad news, pun intended, but what made it worse was watching Seth Rollins carry around my Money in the Bank briefcase and then successfully cash it in. That was supposed to be me at the Royal Rumble. I was supposed to main event WrestleMania. But now, I’m back and I’m officially challenging Seth Rollins to a WWE World Heavyweight Title match.”
CHRISTIAN VS. DANIEL BRYAN; A highly competitive match here, as the show neared the end of hour one. Despite a recent lack of success, Christian came close to scoring the win over the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion several times. He even escaped the Yes Lock and signaled for the Killswitch. However, Bryan shoved him off into the corner and delivered the Busaiku Knee to win in 8:52.
After the match, Daniel Bryan helped Christian to his feet and raised his hand to a nice ovation from the crowd. Christian left Bryan to celebrate and exited to the back. While Bryan celebrated, commentary hyped the rest of the show. Suddenly, the cameras returned to the ring, where Bryan was assaulted with a steel chair by CM Punk. Punk opened the chair over Bryan’s throat and sat down, leaning over to stare Bryan in the face. Punk’s eyes bulged out like a man possessed. Bryan struggled for air as Punk shouted, “YOU DO NOT GET TO WIN!” Officials ran in to try and pry Punk away, but he was fixated on Bryan and didn’t move. It took multiple officials to finally pull Punk away, but the damage was done. Bryan’s face was purple and he was out cold.
An advertisement ran to promote Payback, airing on May 17th.
Backstage, Summer Rae was getting her makeup applied. The Miz walked up to her, with rage in his eyes. He rounded on Summer, “Where the hell have you been? I’ve tried calling you all last night and today.” Summer said she left the show early to heal up after her match. This angered Miz even more. “Really? You weren’t at ringside for my Intercontinental Title match, because you decided to go off and try to be a star on your own? Do you not understand how any of this works? I’m the leading man. I’m the star. You’re a supporting character.” Summer was taken aback. “Excuse you? Just because I was in a supporting role in the Marine, doesn’t mean that’s how it works in WWE.” The fans cheered that, but Miz took a deep breath and calmed himself. “Fine. You want to be a star. We can get this taken care of.” Miz walked away, leaving Summer a bit confused.
The music of Kurt Angle played as he made his way to the ring. Commentary reminded us how close Angle came to winning the WWE World Heavyweight Title last night. Once in the ring, Angle said he wasn’t here to waste time. “Last night, I was robbed of the title I’ve been dying to get back for nearly a decade now. I’m freaking livid, but understand something. I don’t blame Seth Rollins. Don’t get me wrong, I’m mad as hell at him, too. I expected it, though. He’s a guy who likes taking shortcuts and he did just that. My issue is with the people in charge for allowing that to happen. That’s right, Bray Wyatt. I’m talking to you.” Angle chastised the way Bray has run things. Instead of Bray Wyatt, Kurt was cut off by the arrival of Dean Ambrose, to a huge pop. A confused Kurt questioned his arrival. Dean said he was out for two reasons. “One, you’ve been away for a long time, so maybe you don’t get how the Wyatts operate. They love this chaos stuff. I mean, so do I, but that’s besides the point. What I’m getting at, is that you shouldn’t expect them to do anything about what happened last night. The other reason I’m here, is because I share your gripes. I’ve wanted nothing more than to get my hands on that slime ball champion, Seth Rollins, but Bray just enjoys keeping what I want out of my reach.” Kurt was still unsure of Dean, before calling out Bray. The Wyatt Family obliged, as their signature hit the screen. When the lights came back on, only Luke Harper and Erick Rowan were in the ring. Angle and Ambrose realized they weren’t getting any answers from Bray, so they stepped up and took the fight to Harper and Rowan. The two duos traded blows, going to opposite corners. Kurt and Dean countered whips, sending Harper and Rowan into one another. Dean hooked Harper for Dirty Deeds, while Kurt grabbed Rowan’s ankle. The Wyatt signature hit again, signaling the arrival of Bray Wyatt. The lights came on to reveal Angle in his grasp for Sister Abigail. Bray hit it, as Harper and Rowan pounded on Dean in the corner. Harper walloped him with a discus lariat. Bray grabbed a microphone and addressed the fallen Superstars. “More than ever before, this is our compound. You do not make demands of me, you do not threaten me! However, I must admit, I admire your gumption. So, I’ll make you an offer. If you two want what want so badly, you can have it. If you join me. Join the family, follow the buzzards and your desires will be met with vigor. You have seven days to think it over.” The Wyatt signature hit again, sending the show to commercial.
Backstage, cameras caught Daniel Bryan being checked on by the company’s medical staff. He looked to be in rough shape. A glove-clad hand reached into the lens and pulled the camera away. The hand belonged to Paige. She addressed the camera and said, “You see Daniel over there? He’s in bad shape, huh? Poor guy. And yet, it’s nothing compared to what Emma will feel when I get done with her tonight. This whole thing that started last year, ends tonight and so does Emma.”
NON-TITLE MATCH: THE PRIME TIME PLAYERS VS. TYSON KIDD AND CESARO W/ NATALYA; Riding a high after defeating the Usos at Backlash, Tyson Kidd and Cesaro looked to continue their roll. They accomplished it, without Natalya’s help this time, winning via Sharpshooter on Darren Young in 4:48.
Their celebration was cut short by the arrival of the Usos. They stayed atop the stage, with Jimmy holding a microphone. He ran down the Tag Team Champions for using Natalya to beat them last night. “We can play that game, too. You bring Nattie ‘The Anvil’ Neidhart to Smackdown and we’ll bring a special surprise for her.
Before our main event, the commentary team brought viewers the news that the first match for Payback had officially been signed. Seth Rollins will defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Bad News Barrett!
NO HOLDS BARRED – EMMA VS. PAIGE; As we’ve seen in recent weeks, Paige came out with her trusty steel chair. Emma was prepared, jumping her from behind during her entrance. The bell rang as Emma beat on Paige in the aisle. She got to use the steel chair first, cracking Paige on the back twice. They brawled into the stands and around the ringside area. Paige fought back, whipping Emma into the guardrail. She pulled a kendo stick from under the ring and delivered some loud shots to the back. Paige cleared off the announce table, but Emma grabbed some of the ringside cables and choked Paige. She used them to tie Paige’s hands over her head and to the ring post. Emma then used the kendo stick to batter Paige’s midsection, bruising it and leaving several welts. Emma let her free and covered inside, but Paige kicked out. Emma couldn’t believe it. She dumped Paige outside and set her up on the table. “Not this. This was how Emma took out Paige last November,” exclaimed Michael Cole. Paige slipped free of the Michinoku Driver and got behind Emma. She turned her around and delivered the RamPaige through the table. Both women were down for a while, until Paige stirred. She rolled Emma’s limp body in the ring, along with the kendo stick. Paige looked around to a chorus of cheers. She hooked Emma for the PTO, but held the kendo stick. After hooking Emma’s arms, Paige brought the kendo stick in front of Emma and pulled it back across her eyes. She couldn’t fully hold her up, but the pain was enough for Emma to submit at 14:15.
The fans roared in approval as Paige put the rivalry with Emma to bed and was free to move forward. She fell back on the mat, letting out huge breaths, before standing and celebrating with the fans.

NXT #275: April 29th, 2015 – Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida
A video package opened the show, chronicling Finn Balor’s loss to Kevin Owens last month and his loss to Shelton Benjamin last week. The commentary trio of Rich Brennan, Jason Albert and Renee Young introduced the show and sent things to the ring.
NON-TITLE MATCH: NXT CHAMPION KEVIN OWENS VS. MOJO RAWLEY; There was an anger in everything Kevin Owens did tonight. He put away Mojo in short order with a Popup Powerbomb at 1:49. After the match, Owens got on the microphone and said it was nonsense that he must defend his title against Hideo Itami at TakeOver: Unstoppable. “The guy doesn’t mind his own business and saves his little buddy Finn Balor, and all of a sudden he’s a worthy contender? If that’s how William Regal wants to play this, then fine, but understand that Hideo Itami’s blood will be on your hands.”
Backstage, Greg Hamilton stood by with Evan Bourne, who requested interview time. Evan stated that he wasn’t sure what to do next. “I came back to NXT to compete with the best and I’ve done just that, but it hasn’t gone the way I’d hoped. I wanted to pick up the wins, capture the NXT Title and find myself back on Raw and Smackdown. After WrestleMania, people like Tyler Breeze and Charlotte were called up, yet I’m still stewing down here.” Bourne claimed he needed to make a change and do so fast. Cutting to William Regal’s office, Shelton Benjamin entered. Regal congratulated him on the big win over Finn Balor last week. Shelton thanked him, but was there for something else. “Normally, I’d come here asking you for an NXT Title shot after a win like that, but I know that spot is occupied at TakeOver. So I come here asking for one thing. I want Baron Corbin. Find a way to make it happen.” Regal was taken aback by Shelton’s intensity. He agreed to look into it and see what he could do.
CARMELLA W/ ENZO AMORE AND BIG CASS VS. DANA BROOKE; The loss to Charlotte didn’t humble Dana Brooke in the slightest. She was as brash as ever against Carmella here. Carmella locked in her Cone of Silence submission, just as Austin Aries and Bobby Roode snuck out, with Aries nailing Big Cass in the back with a steel chair. Roode added his own shot to the kidneys. Enzo turned in shock as Roode and Aries backed up the ramp with smiles. Carmella let go of the hold to check on Cass. Dana got up and planted her with a Samoan Driver to win at 3:37. Enzo continued to tend to Cass after the match.
Like last week’s special look at Bayley, fans were treated to one centered on Becky Lynch. Clips were shown of her training at a young age. She said she began at the age of fifteen and worked alongside Finn Balor. “I didn’t go through all this to come up short in the big moments. I trained at fifteen, I moved to Canada for more experience at seventeen and I went to Japan, all so I could be the best.” Becky added that she left the business and nearly didn’t return. She had a cushy job as a flight attendant, but wanted to give it one more go and found herself in NXT. “If I don’t win at TakeOver, it’s not just a case of me not realizing some dream. A loss invalidates everything I’ve done in my life. I can’t fail. I won’t. At TakeOver, I’m becoming the NXT Women’s Champion, because losing is unacceptable.” Next week, NXT Women’s Champion Sasha Banks is the focal point of a video package.
Backstage, Devin Taylor interviewed Alexa Bliss, who had Blake and Murphy flanking her. She was asked for her thoughts on the NXT Women’s Title match at TakeOver. Alexa said it was a travesty. “It’s the same thing every TakeOver. First, it was Paige. Then, Charlotte. Now, Sasha, Becky, Bayley. They’ve both failed miserably. I’m sick of it.” Alexa laid out a challenge to either Becky Lynch or Bayley and dared them to put their spot at TakeOver on the line.
An ad ran to promote the upcoming DVD/Blu-Ray release of the Marine 5, starring The Miz and Summer Rae.
AMERICAN ALPHA W/ JACK SWAGGER AND ZEB COLTER VS. DASH WILDER AND SCOTT DAWSON; The mostly unknown duo of Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson impressed the NXT Universe. They worked as a well-oiled machine and nearly beat American Alpha on more than one occasion. However, the All-American Real Americans proved to be too good, pinning Wilder with Grand Amplitude at 4:14.
A Tapout advertisement ran.
Finn Balor entered William Regal’s office. Finn looked down on himself but shook Regal’s hand. Regal told him that he has whatever time he needs to talk to the fans tonight. Finn thanked him and went to leave, but Regal stopped him. “Just, don’t give up on anything. I’m currently working on something that I feel could benefit you greatly.” Finn gave a small smile before leaving.
Viewers were taken to a video recap of what Kevin Owens did to Sami Zayn back in February. Sami’s still on the shelf, but a new update suggests he could make his return by summer.
CJ PARKER VS. SOLOMON CROWE; The vicious Solomon Crowe went right after CJ Parker’s leg. He kept trying for the Stretch Muffler, but CJ found ways to slip free and avoid it. He finally applied it, only for CJ to fight and refuse to tap out. The fans surprisingly got behind CJ. Crowe realized he wouldn’t tap, so he turned over into a pinning combination for the victory in 4:13. Crowe left the ring looking at CJ with confusion in his eyes, while the fans gave Parker a solid hand.
Backstage, EMTs and medics were shown tending to Big Cass. After the chair shots sustained earlier, he was in rough shape. Enzo Amore and Carmella stood by him. An official came up to Enzo, reminding him that they’re match was up next. “Whaddya mean? Can’t you see Cass ain’t fit to compete tonight?” asked Enzo. The official said the match was scheduled and they would forfeit if they didn’t go out there.
BIG SHOW AND BO DALLAS VS. ENZO AMORE AND BIG CASS W/ CARMELLA; In a rare trip to Full Sail University, the Big Show and Bo Dallas faced the top contenders for the NXT Tag Team Titles. Big Cass came out with Enzo, but was in condition to tag in. That left Enzo to do things on his own and Big Show knocked him out with ease at 2:40.
The crowd came unglued for the arrival of Finn Balor. Unfortunately, his demeanor was much different than usual. There was no flair to his entrance; he just walked straight to the ring. Once inside, Finn began talking about coming to NXT. “I was doing quite well for myself in Japan. I held titles for over a year, I won tournaments and even went undefeated through some of them. I was in high profile matches on the biggest stage in Japan. But, the one thing I never grabbed was the top prize. I could never win the Heavyweight Title. Even without that accomplishment, I decided to come to America and to NXT. I wanted to challenge myself even further. Things were going so well. I had my friend, Hideo Itami, by my side. I was unbeaten for months and I earned a shot at the title. And yet, here I stand, still without the top prize. Last week, I lost to Shelton Benjamin. These things aren’t embarrassing, but that’s how I feel. I come out here for each and every single one of you and you believe in me and I let you down. I honestly don’t know where I go next.” William Regal’s music played as the NXT General Manager walked out onto the stage. Finn spoke before he could, “I know why you’re here. It’s the same thing you did a few weeks ago, right? You’ve got a new match for me to try and right the ship. It didn’t work last week, so I’m sorry, but I’m not in the mood.” Regal said that wasn’t the case. “I do have a match for you, young man, but it’s not one to right the ship as you say. You struggle to figure out things when you aren’t the ‘Demon’ but you had a lot of your career success before you ever unleashed that. And there’s one man who knows this better than anyone. A man who helped mold you while you were in Japan. A man who takes many athletes just like you under his wing. A man I’m bringing in for one time only at TakeOver.” Finn’s eyes widened as Regal completed the announcement. “Finn Balor, at TakeOver: Unstoppable, you will go one on one with Jushin Thunder Liger!” The fans erupted and for the first time all night, Finn let out a smile.

Cruiserweight Classic #5: April 29th, 2015 – Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida
A video package opened the episode, showing highlights of the first round. Cedric Alexander, Kyle O’Reilly, TJ Perkins, Kota Ibushi, Matt Riddle, Tajiri, Will Ospreay, Marty Scurll, Andrade Almas, Alex Shelley, Gran Metalik, Zack Sabre Jr., Rich Swann, Jack Gallagher, Fenix, and The Brian Kendrick are the sixteen remaining participants.
Those men were discussed once again, when it was time for Bracketology, led by former Cruiserweight Champion Dean Malenko. He pointed out the mix of styles left in the tournament. There were high fliers (Ospreay, Metalik, Swann, Fenix), technicians (Sabre, Gallagher, Shelley, Perkins), stiff strikers (Ibushi, Riddle, O’Reilly), cunning vets (Tajiri, Kendrick) and guys that could do a little bit of everything (Almas, Alexander and Scurll).
Viewers were now taken to a video package to hype our first second round match. Representing Japan is former WWE Cruiserweight, Tag Team and United States Champion Tajiri. He bested Gurv Sihra in the first round and was looking to use the tournament as a way to make an official return to the WWE. His opponent calls himself, “The Villain.” Marty Scurll represents England and considers himself the best wrestler in the world, regardless of weight class.CRUISERWEIGHT CLASSIC SECOND ROUND – MARTY SCURLL VS. TAJIRI; Like the opening round, Scurll refused to shake hands. The two cunning athletes played it smart. They both avoided risks and looked for the other to make the first mistake. Tajiri went for the green mist, but Scurll ducked it and rolled him up with a handful of tights for a near fall. He took the kick out and turned it into the Chicken Wing, making Tajiri submit in 10:51.
An advertisement ran to promote Payback, which comes to you on the WWE Network on Sunday, May 17th, 2015!
A video package aired to set up the main event. Two representatives of Mexico will go head to head for the first time ever. Gran Metalik is known more for his time in Japan, but wants to be the pride of Mexico. Metalik beat Jason Lee in round one. He spoke through a translator and so did his opponent. At 24 years of age, Fenix is one of the youngest competitors in the tournament. In the first round, he defeated the legendary Jushin Thunder Liger.CRUISERWEIGHT CLASSIC SECOND ROUND – FENIX VS. GRAN METALIK; You may never find a better display of high flying action. Fenix and Gran Metalik spent the early portions of the match outdoing each other in terms of aerial displays. They brought the crowd to their feet when they landed on their feet on Fenix’s top rope C4 attempt. Gran Metalik came close to victory with several springboard moves. Fenix escaped the Metalik Driver, but Metalik still knocked him down and went up top. Fenix followed and nailed a double jump springboard rana to bring him down to the ring. He busted out a Fire Thunder Driver to put down Metalik at 14:58 and advance to the Quarterfinals.
The fans gave the match a standing ovation. Fenix and Metalik came to the center of the ring and shook hands once more. Metalik left the ring so Fenix could continue his celebration alone.
Dean Malenko spoke over clips of the competitors we’ll see next week. First, veterans will do battle as well-traveled Alex Shelley and the Brian Kendrick go at it to advance for America. Then, Mexico’s Andrade Almas goes one on one with the fun loving American, Rich Swann. In our main event, two of the top high fliers on the planet will meet for the first time ever as Japan’s Kota Ibushi faces England’s Will Ospreay.

Smackdown #819: April 30th, 2015 – I Wireless Center in Moline, Illinois
The weekly Smackdown intro video kicked things off tonight, before Mauro Ranallo, Tom Phillips and Byron Saxton welcomed viewers to the show. Cameras headed straight to the ring for the opening contest. NON-TITLE MATCH: FANDANGO W/ LAYLA VS. ROMAN REIGNS; The new United States Champion made his first appearance since winning the gold. He took out Fandango with a Spear in 3:29 to continue his hot streak. After the match, Reigns got on the microphone and said he heard Alexander Rusev on Raw. “You think Backlash was a fluke? I’m not hiding from you or anyone else. You want your US Title rematch? You got it. Believe that.” Renee Young stood by backstage to interview Tyler Breeze. Breeze entered the picture while looking at himself in his phone. Renee began asking a question, causing Tyler to look up as if just seeing her for the first time. “My god. Who let you in here looking like that?” Renee’s words got stuck in her throat, unsure of how to respond. Breeze continued, “The standards around here are lower than I thought.” Tyler walked away in disgust, leaving an embarrassed and upset Renee behind.
Viewers were taken to a recap of the altercation between the Wyatt Family and the duo of Kurt Angle and Dean Ambrose from Raw. Tonight, Bray has placed Dean in a match with Luke Harper. Plus, for the first time since WrestleMania, “The Animal” Batista returns!
THE PRIME TIME PLAYERS VS. THE USOS; Like Tyson Kidd and Cesaro did on Raw, the Usos looked to best the Prime Time Players. They successfully did just that, when Jimmy hit Darren Young with a splash at 6:03.
The WWE Tag Team Champions, Tyson Kidd and Cesaro, followed by Natalya, made their way down to the ring. Kidd had a microphone and said this was what the Usos wanted. “What’s this surprise you supposedly have for us? And make it quick because the champs are on a busy schedule.” As they walked around the ring towards commentary, Cesaro chimed in, “Fact.” Jey Uso said they admitted their loss the night after WrestleMania was fair and square. “You were the better team that night. But at Backlash, you won because of your little third wheel over there.” Kidd put his hands over Natalya’s ears so she wouldn’t have to listen to this. Jey said they found an equalizer. Naomi’s theme hit as Jimmy Uso’s wife ran down to the ring to a pop. Once inside, she nodded to the Usos and the three of them performed dives onto the champions and Natalya! Kidd and Cesaro struggled to their feet, but stumbled over away from the Usos. Kidd checked on Cesaro, while they left Natalya on the floor. The Usos and Naomi celebrated in the ring as this rivalry now has a new added element.
Backstage, Jojo stood by with John Cena. She asked him about what’s next now that Damien Sandow is in his rearview mirror. Cena said the plan remains the same. “Go through each and every person on this roster to get back to the top.” Cena was interrupted by the arrival of Christian. Christian said he came in peace. “I know we’ve had our differences in the past, but I wanted to talk to you about something.” Cena agreed, but Christian said not tonight. “How about Monday? Will you come on the Peep Show?” Cena was hesitant, unsure about trusting Christian. However, he shook Christian’s hand and agreed.
CAMERON VS. CHARLOTTE; Fresh off a win over Summer Rae at Backlash, Charlotte continued to move up the ranks of the division, this time by beating Cameron with Natural Selection in 2:50.
A mixed reaction filled the I Wireless Center as Batista stepped through the curtain for the first time in a month. He made his way down to the ring and got on the microphone, explaining that he was away to film a movie. “Yea, that’s right. I’m that kind of star now. The box office one who comes and goes as he pleases.” The fans booed that, so Batista cited how they always cheer a guy like the Rock. “Anyway, while I was gone, I kept up with what was going on around here. I know the Wyatts are in charge, I know Kurt Angle returned, I know John Cena’s starting at the bottom. But one thing stands out above them all. Randy Orton.” The fans were surprised at this. Batista called Orton to the ring to talk face to face. Orton obliged to a hearty ovation from Moline. Once in the ring, Orton shook hands with his former tag team partner and asked what this was all about. Batista proceeded to rip into Orton, surprising “The Viper.” Batista chastised him for how he’s treated the situation with Cody Rhodes. “I lost to Daniel Bryan and Brock Lesnar at the last two WrestleManias and guess what? I didn’t shake their hands. I didn’t become their tag team partner and I didn’t become their friend. What the hell happened to you, Randy? Last year, you were on top of the world. You were the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. You and I ran through this company as the Tag Team Champions. You know why we did so well? Because we were ruthless.” Batista said Orton should’ve annihilated Cody at Backlash and punted him in the head. He called Orton soft and shoved the microphone into his chest, before exiting. Orton stared out at him, but didn’t respond, choosing to watch him head up the ramp. “Come to think of it, is Batista right?” asked Byron Saxton.
The commentary trio informed the WWE Universe that, due to Roman Reigns' words earlier tonight, a new match has been added to Payback!
BAD NEWS BARRETT VS. SHEAMUS; For the first time in 2015, Bad News Barrett was in action. The fans were way behind him as he battled his former Authority running buddy. Sheamus came close on a few occasions, but fell to a vicious Bull Hammer at 10:04. Barrett couldn’t celebrate his win for long, as WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins hit the ring. He went to hit Barrett with the title, but Barrett ducked. He went for the Bull Hammer, but Seth quickly dropped to the mat and rolled outside. A frustrated Seth declined Barrett’s dare to get back in the ring. “For the second straight show, Bad News Barrett has gotten the better of Seth Rollins,” said Mauro Ranallo.
Viewers were taken to a recap of CM Punk’s attack on Daniel Bryan on Monday. After Bryan beat him at Backlash, CM Punk attacked Bryan on Raw and opened a chair on his throat, before sitting on it. Punk has been told to stay home and Bryan is resting. “Daniel Bryan has promised to be back on Monday, where he will call out CM Punk for a confrontation. Those two combustible elements are sure to explode on Monday,” said Tom Phillips.
An advertisement ran to promote the Cruiserweight Classic. Round Two continues next week, on the WWE Network!
DOLPH ZIGGLER VS. THE MIZ W/ SUMMER RAE; During this battle of Ohio born stars, WWE Intercontinental Champion Adrian Neville was watching on a monitor. Summer Rae attempted to cheat for Miz, but an Irish whip counter led her to accidentally trip Miz. Miz turned and yelled at her, allowing Dolph to win with the Zig Zag in 6:28. As Dolph headed up the ramp celebrating, Miz glared at a cowering Summer Rae.
A vignette ran for the Ascension. They guaranteed to get back to sending teams to the wasteland.
DEAN AMBROSE VS. LUKE HARPER W/ ERICK ROWAN; It was one of the harder hitting main events in recent Smackdown memory. Luke Harper and Dean Ambrose threw everything at one another. Erick Rowan threw in a few cheap shots behind the referee’s back. Dean slipped free of Harper’s grasp and too out an unsuspecting Rowan with a tope suicida. Back inside, Dean ducked the discus lariat but ran into a bit boot. He fell to the ropes and rebounded out with his own clothesline. Luke hit the ropes and fell right into Dirty Deeds for the finish at 10:18. Rowan slid in the ring and attacked Dean from behind. He put the boots to him, joined by Luke Harper. Kurt Angle hit the scene to a huge ovation. Kurt ducked a shot from Rowan and took him over with a German suplex. Harper clubbed him on the back a few times, only for Dean to stand and knock him over the top from behind. Harper and Rowan went to get back in, but the Wyatt signature hit the screen. Bray Wyatt appeared on the Titantron, telling Harper and Rowan to stay back. “I’m an honest, fair man, Dean. You bested me tonight and for that, I must applaud you. Even the greatest of leaders lose some battles, we just don’t lose wars.” Bray continued by saying he chose the next battle in this war. Dean and Kurt looked eager to get their hands on the Wyatt Family. “This Monday night on Raw, Kurt Angle and Dean Ambrose will get just what I know they want.” Their faces changed when Bray booked Ambrose vs. Angle for Raw. The fans popped as Dean and Kurt stared down one another. Bray laughed at them as the show went off the air.
