It's Memorial Day here in the United States, and what better way to spend the day than to pay tribute to a real American hero, AND HIS NAME IS JOHN CENA! All kidding aside, this is essentially the first Raw of 2016 for John Cena as he has been sidelined with shoulder surgery. However, the WWE that Cena returns to is a vastly different place than what he left, as we are in a NEW ERA. Raw is now co-run by Shane and Stephanie McMahon, and there are some new faces that Cena has never faced in the ring. How will this change of scenery affect the former 15-time World champion, and what goals are on the Leader of Cenation's to-do list? Does Cena want to tie Ric Flair's recognized title record? There's one last spot in the Money in the Bank ladder match! Does Cena desire to bring back the US Title Open Challenges? Well, he's got to go through Rusev again to do that. Does Cena want to hold the one title he's never held? He's certainly no stranger to The Miz, that's for sure. But there's one question that stands above the rest. Will he wear those jorts that Ellen DeGeneres gave him? (In the meantime, he's already lost one battle against the fashion police this week, having tapped out to Pabst Blue Ribbon's devastating Ceast and Desist chokehold.)
We are three weeks away from the Money in the Bank event, and headlining the event will be Seth Rollins challenging Roman Reigns for the WWE Championship. Rollins is on a mission to reclaim the title that he never lost. Reigns has a two year grudge to settle with the man who stabbed him in the back. Will these two former "brothers" wait until MitB to enact some justice on each other? Which of the two former Shield members will walk out of Las Vegas as the WWE champion?
That's assuming either of them leave Sin City as champion, as the winner of that match will already have crosshairs aiming at their head. Cesaro, Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens, Dean Ambrose, Sami Zayn, and Alberto Del Rio all won qualifying matches last week and are now just two matches away from becoming WWE Champion. Who will claim the final spot in the match, and how will these six men look to establish momentum going into the show?
Ever since Baron Corbin came up to main roster and won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, he has made Dolph Ziggler's life a living hell. He has dominated the Showoff in nearly every match they have had, and when his brute force has not been enough, dirty tactics have made the difference. But tonight, the Lone Wolf must combat Ziggler in his element, a TECHNICAL WRESTLING match. Can Corbin go hold for hold with one of the greatest collegiate wrestlers in Kent State history, or will Dolph Ziggler finally get one over his bitter rival?
Last week, we thought we were getting an address on the state of the Women's Division by the champion, Charlotte. But instead, we saw the state of the Flair family, as Charlotte disowned her father, Ric Flair. Charlotte declared herself The Dirtiest Player in the Game, and essentially swapped out daddy dearest for her new best friend forever, Dana Brooke. Will we learn more about Charlotte's resentment towards her dad, and will a new contender for her title step to put this duo in their place?
The New Day are still the WWE World Tag Team Champions, but there are no shortage of teams under them in the tag team division. The Vaudevillians would no doubt like a rematch. The Shining Stars would love to make Puerto Rico proud. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson would love to stick it to former friend AJ Styles and win a championship while Styles tumbles down the ranks. The Usos would love to get back in the saddle. The Dudleys still have a recent non-title victory over the champs. And last week, we saw Enzo Amore make his return after getting concussed at Payback, and reunite his tandem with Big Cass. The latter two teams still have a score to be settled, and a match has been scheduled for tonight on Raw. Which team of New York loudmouths will prevail, and which tag team will be next in line to test their might against the Power of Positivity?
All of this, and perhaps Darren Young becomes great again, live from the Resch Center in Green Bay, WI at 8PM EDT. Hopefully, Goldust ensures his Golden Truth teammate makes it to the right town. And after Raw, be sure to check out the WWE Network for WWE 24, featuring Seth Rollins and that fateful night in Dublin.
