I mean, I really have no clue why unless it's their only option anyone would want to play a cellphone Mario Kart to start with. I don't see a way in which that could be fun, the typical format's just not conductive to the appeal of Mario Kart. Skullgirls managed to make a good cellphone fighting game(mechanically speaking)everything is possible. Some people like/know Mario and dont have Game Consoles.

Honestly whatever unique qualities Nintendo properties have completely disappear whenever they're in the mobile market; so other than abstract hopes that revenue earned from it can help fund more creative releases on Switch, Mario Kart Tour gets a big "meh" from me.

Well, that's why I said "unless it's their only option". I get it if you want some Mario Kart and don't have other means, but if you have a 3DS or Switch, really even a Game Boy Advance, I really don't see what appeal this would have.

I don't see a way in which that could be fun, the typical format's just not conductive to the appeal of Mario Kart. The manner in which you do things is also frustrating. I can't show footage or screenshots, but I CAN mention some details based on what I've played. {Spoiler}{Spoiler} - It appears that all of the tracks in Mario Kart Tour will be retro courses, and is running on whatever engine Mario Kart 7 operated with. If Nintendo makes an original course for Mario Kart Tour, that would be a surprise unto itself.
- Mario Kart Tour will operate with "Tours", where events will reset after a few weeks, making you lose progress and start over. I'm hoping that you can unlock tracks for free play, but this IS a mobile game. Such an idea would be blasphemy!
- The courses provide incentives for specific characters, in which they have an advantage that allows them more items to use when touching an item box.
- The majority of items, such as drivers and parts, can be unlocked by spending emeralds (the game's premium currency, or as Jim Sterling put it, the currency that matters) at the Pipe, that randomly unlocks them. Although everything is guaranteed since the pipe has 100 items and 100 uses, so nothing will repeat itself, you're most likely going to have to spend close to the 5,000 emerald maximum to get to the elite items that start off with a hefty boost, regardless of track, like Metal Mario.
- Rather than allowing players to play for as long as they feel, they're limited to a "stamina" meter, in the form of Hearts. These hearts are designed to recover more slowly the more races you have run, which again, will encourage you to buy a potential EX-Heart item that allows for bonus races or something in the actual product.

Skullgirls managed to make a good cellphone fighting game(mechanically speaking)everything is possible. Some people like/know Mario and dont have Game Consoles. Nintendo's only got two speeds in the mobile game market; Steady and "Holy Crap, We've Driven Off the Grand Canyon!" Pokémon Go and, to a lesser extent, Dragalia Lost are in the former, while you can argue everything else has been in the latter for some reason or another. It's not that it's impossible, it's that Nintendo just doesn't understand the appeal of the mobile market. To be fair, most game companies butchered the concept of mobile gaming, turning it from a potential avenue of fun and excitement to a toxic cesspit of crud and malaise filled with nickel and diming practices in the span of less than 5 years (heck, 3 years if you think about it), but Nintendo has a history of cluelessness when going outside of their comfort zone, such as with online play and third party support that doesn't bode well to this concept.

The elimination of the Mystery Mushroom (because no amiibo support, even though those costumes could be gotten without amiibos through grinding) hurts me more.

Serious question, how is Nintendo still successful? Any other company would have gone under by now if they made the decisions Nintendo has. It feels like they're successful in spite of the decisions they make, rather than because of them.

Which, honestly, I get. They’re the home market, the one they know the most so they want to cater to them the most to get the most sales. It’s still ridiculous as hell but we’re not talking about the practices of other companies here.

Hopefully it won't have that annoying save glitch.

Serious question, how is Nintendo still successful? Any other company would have gone under by now if they made the decisions Nintendo has. It feels like they're successful in spite of the decisions they make, rather than because of them. They sell their consoles at a profit, have successful first parties releases that they get all the money from, and have system that's filling a major niche for a lot of customers. The thing about Nintendo is that they don't follow industry trends, and often gear many of their infrastructure services towards a Japanese market. A lot of the time that strategy works, but when it fails it really fails. The contrast in sales between the Wii & the Wii U directly demonstrates how the company going to the beat of its own drum can be a benefit and a hindrance.

Without reading the article, I'm wondering if they're actually going to have the style seen in the trailer, or go with the more cartoony style that we saw in the Wii version of the game (which to make up for that style they also allowed you the option to play as a lady 'Buster).

I think this is going to be the trailer style for the Switch version as well.

The article mentioned that all ports will be based on the 360/PS3 version of the game. Which is cool since I only played the Wii version back in the day and it was pretty fun, but it didn't have some of the content the other versions did.

Yeah, this is just going to be a remaster of the PS3/360 versions.
