ThunderForce IV on the eShop now.
And it instantly is the best shoot-em-up on the system (or 2nd best, if you can't brook Ikaruga not being #1)

It was neat seeing Pro Wrestling for the NES on the Switch’s list of NES games, but then I found myself struggling with the controls.

Honestly NES games don't really excite me. I had one back in the day but it wasn't until SNES I felt like gaming got fantastic. Not there weren't quality games on NES but none that I want to replay.

Yo-Kai Watch 3 is going to be release on February 8 in the West.
That was fast, although I'm guessing it's because the 3DS is at the end of it's life and Level 5 may be wanting to push Yo-Kai Watch 4 for the Switch in the West sooner than expected.

By the way, about Nintendo's online?
Cloud Saves are saved for 6 months before erasure if your subscription lapses.
Just FYI.

Haven't posted on the forum in a long time but I'm looking at getting my son a switch for Christmas, he will be 5 then and I know the main games to get but is there any extras I really "need" in terms of accessories etc? The controllers look a little uncomfortable to hold on their own, if for instance we were to play Mario Kart together?
I figured this would be as good a place as any to ask!

A pro controller would be your main one if you are worried about how the controllers would feel. Make sure you get a proper one which, while pricier, would have all functionality.

Rumor going around is Super Mario Party only has four boards.
In general this whole game seems like it was solely made to spite people who thought the car is the only reason 9 and 10 sucked.

Four boards, most of the mini-games have motion controls(or enough of them have it that they didn't implement a way to play the game in handheld mode, docked or table modes only due to needing to waggle the Joy-Cons(speaking of, no compatibility with the Pro Controller, despite it having motion controls too)), and the online mode is only a mini game mode, no actual playing of any of the boards online. Honestly, every new bit of info about the game has slowly but surely eroded my interest in the game. Yes, I'm one of those weird people who like to play Mario Party solo vs. the computer now and then. Granted the no handheld mode thing pretty much was an instant death for my interests, as I pretty much use my Switch almost exclusively as a handheld....

Its astounding to me how much Nintendo is still stubborn on mandatory motion controls. It was dubious 8 years ago when a game as solidly built for an SNES pad as DKC Returns wouldn't let you use the Classic Controller, but every mixed/dubious instance of it since (Skyward Sword, Star Fox Zero, even Mario Odyssey) should have long ago told them that people want options. Between this and the awful execution of the online service tells you that even in a period of the company relaxing some of its old rules, the conservative "we know better than the customer" attitude of Nintendo is still pretty pervasive.

I don't mind Skyward Sword (on the motion control front anyway, I have a LOT of other issues with Skyward Sword) for two reasons - one, they were delivering what they pretty much lied and said the Wii version of Twilight Princess was going to be, and two, the motion controls allowed for them doing some unique mechanics and game structuring that really just could not have happened otherwise. But tons of other stuff, motion controls need to just plain stop being done unless the game is outright designed for them and can't function without them. 1-2-Switch? Fine. The motion control puzzles in Breath of the Wild? F*** outta here.

Been playing the Luigi's Mansion remake, just beat it this morning (been held off because was trying to get all gold portraits so had to do a lot of reloading - eventually said f*** that when it came to Sue Pea) and just got a foot in the door on the Hidden Mansion.
Main positive is that the Hidden Mansion and being able to refight the portrait ghosts are both MAJOR improvements. The Hidden Mansion in particular is an enormous spike in difficulty compared to the base game and just completely outclasses the shoddy excuse for a New Game Plus the non-European versions of the original did. I wish it was mirrored like that one, but the rest of the changes still are probably enough to make this the best version of it.
Main detriment is the motion controls. You eventually kind of get used to them but they do really just overcomplicate the control scheme in a way I really don't feel like was necessary, especially when it comes to the Boolossus and King Boo fights where combined with the more zoomed out camera it's genuinely difficult to tell where you're even aiming at.

Starlink's coming out today; general thoughts have been graphically impressive with solid integration of Fox for the Switch version, but somewhat repetitive and prone to the typical weaknesses of Ubisoft game design.
However since its at worst a B minus game that actually has gameplay focus without an obnoxious gimmick its probably already the best Star Fox game in over a decade (possibly two if you're not terribly fond of Assault).

To be honest I like Assault more than I do 64. Assault's easily the best SF game of the past 20 years, but the awkward on foot missions, compromise of certain level design for the sake of multi-player, and lack of multiple paths put it just below 64 for me. I will say unlike the gameplay deviations or gimmicks that plagued Adventures, Command, or Zero; at least Assault felt like it was SF game that wasn't putting on a proverbial funny hat to make itself interesting.

So apparently, Nintendo of Canada is hosting a viewing party on Thursday, but will not say what for. Many believe this is leading to a Direct announcement tomorrow.
