Interesting list. I agree with some of these. Doom is still one of the best FPS because of its chaos and map design, Bioshock is great for the story, and if I was forced to put COD on there they chose the right one. The only one I have not played is Counterstrike. But, having seen gameplay, I don't get that choice for #1. It seems a good FPS but not greatest. But what do I know?

My main things are Goldeneye should be on the list somewhere, probably take out Bioshock (which actual gameplay wise I found rather lacking) also replace Left 4 Dead 2 with Left 4 Dead (Original was superior)

If I had to name 10 of my favorite FPS games off the top of my head, in no particular order, my list would be:
1. Unreal Tournament 99 2. TimeSplitters 3: Future Perfect 3. Doom 4. Aliens vs Predator 2000 Classic 5. Quake 6. Half-Life 2 7. Crysis 8. Red Faction 9. Counter-Strike 10. Heretic

replace Left 4 Dead 2 with Left 4 Dead (Original was superior) I fully disagree with this. Bioshock I accept on the list due to it's story telling technique even if the actual gameplay leaves a bit to be desired.

Omitting Quake 2 is interesting considering it was considered to be "The FPS" for a while.
A lot of games advertised themselves as the Quake 2 Killer. But I guess you gotta omit something.
No Goldeneye makes me sad. That game was the FPS definition of "sitting a couch and swearing at eachother".

I like the James Bond games on the PS2 and Killzone: Mercenaries. Oh and that beach landing level from one of the MoH games.
I often disagree with such lists but this time I'll defer to pretty much anybody, FPS games clearly aren't my genre.

Bioshock I accept on the list due to it's story telling technique even if the actual gameplay leaves a bit to be desired. I just find the original to be much more stream-lined and slick. The Charger, Jockey and Spitter didn't add much to the existing special infected and the new survivors were just not as likeable as the original four. But that's just my personal take on it.

Yikes this is a bad list. System Shock 2, Deus Ex, or Dishonored should've been in Bioshock's spot, at least.
Way too much of a competitive multiplayer focus.

I have played seven of the top ten. All seven made me vomit, so I guess that means they're really working!

It's constantly in the top 3 streamed games on twitch and surprisingly popular even today. I'd be shocked if it wasn't on the list.

Goldeneye and Timesplitters being missing makes this list irrelevant to me

I was never more into a shooter than during the years I spent playing counterstrike. This list makes me happy.

I feel the second game was too light, the dark atmosphere of the first was much better. Gameplay of the 2nd is better though, which is why it's good that they basically added the first game to the second one on Steam. It's damn near perfection. Anyway, this list lacks Timesplitters 2, ergo they're wrong.

Dishonored? it's "meant" to be played as a stealth game where you don't kill anybody. I loved and platinumed the game, but it'd be hard to put on a best FPS ever list.

TimeSplitters 2 is a great game, but marred by terrible controls.
