My son being born.
Randomly turning on TNT one night (having just resumed watching wrestling for the first time in a couple years) and seeing "Big" Scott Hall walk out of the crowd and interrupt a match.

My sixth-grade field trip to Toronto. We toured the SkyDome and they let us run around in the outfield.
The debut of Raw Magazine, with those photo spreads of Sunny and Sable.

I too am an old man, and this is my response. Also, Dallas winning their last Superbowl so far that January.

Turning 21. A good Christmas. Some great music. Getting to university (although my first year was a nightmare).

Watching one of my favorite wrestlers be WWF Champion for most of the year, and two more of my favorites start the nWo.
Getting to see the original members of Kiss live on the reunion tour.

Getting my N64 days before it was set to be released...thanks to a goof up from the folks at Meijer. I remember walking into the one closest to me one day and went into the video game section and low and behold they put out N64 consoles several days before the launch. They didn't figure out their screw up until I had already bought mine...lol.
While people were standing in long ass lines that year hoping to get a system...I was kicked back at my place playing Mario 64...lol
Definitely my favorite memory of '96.

Quake drops for the PC!
This was the year when mainstream horror took a turn for the worse: Scream became a big hit and it wasn't long before almost every horror movie aped it and the gore and sex got scaled back so the films could be marketed to teens rather than adults. Yes, I'd say this is when I remember there being a major shift from R-rated horror films to PG-13-rated horror films.
I saw Happy Gilmore in theatres. That film was hella funny and still holds up well today. I also enjoyed watching Jingle All the Way and remember really enjoying WCW since Chris Benoit became a staple of the promotion. I didn't see it until maybe 1997, but The People Vs. Larry Flynt also saw its theatrical release in 1996, and that is a film I really enjoy for both its message and for the sake of entertainment.
Other than discovering Marilyn Manson during the height of his popularity (I was totally in the dark about the band when its popularity began to skyrocket thanks to the awesome covers featured on Smells like Children) and seeing my first porno movie, I don't have any positive memories of this time. It marked a bad shift in my life.

I turned 3, and, uh, that's about it.
98-99 is where the memories really start to flow.

I was a 10-year old Shawn Michaels mark, so Wrestlemania 12 was a pivotal moment in my wrestling fandom and possibly my life.
Hall, Nash, and Hogan turning saved WCW for me. I was starting to lose interest, but the NWO brought me back in.
Graduating 5th grade and starting middle school was an interesting transition, as well.

I was 8 at the time and still reeling in the loss of two of my sports heroes (Ayrton Senna had died in mid-94 and Wayne Rainey had his career-ending accident in September of 93) so I started to go back to their respective sports, so that was good.
Euro 96 was the first time I saw Portugal in an international competition, which was awesome.
Atlanta 96, my second taste of the Olympics.
A boatload of catchy music.
And had an awesome year in Elementary school! Yay, friends!

I was at King of the Ring 1996 - do I win the thread? Did you see my friend Jonah? He was there too.
