Well if I can answer the debate of this review 80's Chipmunks vs today's Chipmunks, which is better, which is the best. I tell you the answer is the same as the Cinderella debate: old vs new, neither, it is a 3rd party.
It is the 60's version that is the best by far, It had Clyde Crasscup, debate over.

I feel like I remember an 80s Alvin and the Chipmunks cartoon special where Clyde traveled dimensions between shows and the 60s and 80s Chipmunks had a battle of the bands.

I know this isn't some hugely popular franchise, but it's a shame most people think of the movies when the name comes up now and not even the series on Nickelodeon. I don't go out of my way to watch it, but my niece watches it and compared to some of the other crap she watches (coughTeenTitansGocough), it's not half bad. I'd have been into it when I was younger.

Part of that seems to be the lack of advertising on Nickelodeon's part...

Pretty fun episode and also how I got introduced to the 60s Chipmunks as a kid.

Part of that seems to be the lack of advertising on Nickelodeon's part... Which is kinda funny, considering next to Spongebob it's probably the show they play the most on the channel. But yeah, it's pretty creatively written and doesn't go out of its way to be obnoxious and current. Hell, there's one episode where Theodore acts like one of the movie Chipmunks and everyone else acts like he's being a total tool. Dunno if that's how it was intended, but it got a little bit of a chuckle from me when I put it together. Not to mention, the first time I heard that the theme song was a rendition of the theme from the 80s cartoon, I was kinda impressed by that.

I know they were dressing as the Chipettes, but it's a little distracting how one of the girls looks like early Nostalgia Chick.

OT, but did the episode of the cartoon when they get a cat and it dies scar anyone else? Only years ago did I find out about this episode online and no I never saw it and don't want to. (Wonder if syndication and/or Cartoon Network banned it?) Yet it's on EVERY OTHER A&TC compilation DVD. Please, I teared up on the last Nyan-Koi episode and the part where we find out who Yuki was in The Cat Returns gets me every time somehow. No way would I survive this Alvin episode!!! Now another traumatizing episode was one in which Alvin (?) has a nightmare about "being the judge" for something. Said nightmare includes a zombie/monster Dave. Does anyone know which episode this was? And Mr. T HATES BULLIES. Just thought I'd remind you.

Regarding the Nickelodeon series...it would be much better had they picked BETTER DESIGNS like TMNT did. They look like Topo Gigio's relatives.

I totally thought it was! To be fair, I'm real tickytacky with watching NC vids anymore. If the movie reviewed doesn't interest me, I skip it. And that's about all my Channel Awesome exposure anymore.

I like all the movies, well except the 2nd CG one, but I don't like Betty Thomas' work so it doesn't surprise me I don't.
Other than that, I like pretty much everything Chipmunks related. One of my favorite franchises next to TMNT & PPG.
