Darren and Jojo barely concealed their amusement and awkwardness.
I love Bob Backlund.
Have we worked out why the f*** Young is so over yet? The pop for the chickenwing was ridiculous.

Because Bob f***ing Backlund. Yeah, Mr. Backlund and Darren being decent in the ring and the PTP pretty much have always been over to a degree

I just watched the retro Raw from 1996 where he starts ranting about trying to stop AIDS with condominiums. So I'd have to agree

I have a major soft spot for 1994 Bob Backlund. Great to see that he hasn't changed one bit, he is still f***ing nuts!

Young is still so awkward in these promos.

Backlund is great. Young is still so awkward in these promos. which is more or less why Backlund is there. Darren was always the ring guy of the PTP while Titus was the charismatic guy.

Backlund is a prime example of a wrestler who was forced to be baby face for years, but when he became heel he became one of the best.

He was more plain than vanilla. His nickname was Howdy Doody for a good reason. He had no personality beyond white meat babyface. Hell, he rejected Vince's plan to turn him heel and feud with Hulk Hogan doing the early days of Hulkamania. Granted he was suppose to be a punk rocker with the proposed gimmick.

The clues were there the entire time though. Go watch the promo from his face run where someone destroyed his World belt. Him bawling and losing it was a sign of things to come, or some of the other lesser-known promos where he whines/cries were a sign of the nutjob waiting to break free. Hell, his body language at times back then was...erratic at best, like when the match where he reintroduced Hogan to the WWF.

Hell, his body language at times back then was...erratic at best, like when the match where he reintroduced Hogan to the WWF. The same year he won the title, he was in a tag match with Peter Maivia. I forget who they were against, but the finish was that Maivia turned on Backlund and the heels did a beat down on Arnold Skaaland. Vin Man tries to get a word with Bob after order has been restored, and he's staring at his hands walking around in circles screaming WHAT HAPPENED over and over, then he stares at the camera and yells I'M GONNA KILL THE SON OF A BITCH. They knew as early as 1978 how to get him over. it's weird they waited until 1994 to go all the way with it. And then again in 2016, it's still one of the best things around.

His promo after losing the title ("I LET MY COUNTRY DOWN!") should have made him completely snap. Dude was inconsolable, even Pat Patterson couldn't get him to see the honor in fighting injured, yet putting up a strong front.
