I could be wrong but didn't they have a whole soul searching thing while feuding with the Wyatts about whether or not the New Day could go on business as usual? Pretty sure I remember Xavier Woods talking more than once about the fun being over and then the Wyatts beat them at Battleground. I get that they just became the longest reigning champs but even a small acknowledgement would be something. Is it because Bray and Erick went to Smackdown?

Xavier teasing that the Wyatts were getting into his head was interesting. It seemed like it might lead to a pretty cool arc in which the eternally jokey stable shows vulnerability and is forced to get serious, fights back against a numbers disadvantage, loses the first few matches, but ultimately wins the big one and restores Woods to his happy self.
So of course nothing like that happened and it was all just dropped without consequence.

But that would get in the way of screaming about memes and cereal.

I think it was absolutely because Bray and Erick went to Smackdown. I don't think WWE had the exact rosters laid out in their minds when that feud happened, and reportedly there was still a lot of talk and arguing even day of about some picks, so I think they wrote that story, started the "Woods being hypnotized" thing, then split the feud apart and just decided not to bother worrying about either; New Day go back to doing their thing, Bray gets a win to boost him up for whoever he gets fed to next. Just the usual for WWE's writing.

Just the usual for WWE's writing. Wow, if they seriously hadn't 100% settled where people were going by the day off that's pretty damning. This is something that's been months in the making, this isn't just a raw script but an actual major shift in the way you do business. I wonder if that's why the reactions on the network were as blunt as they were in some cases. It's a shame though that they finally gave the New Day a challenge to worry about, a group that took the best they had and laughed and then flushed that all away. Braun would have been better served being granted larger roles with the Wyatts so he could work on his weaknesses while hiding them and the New Day would have a genuine foe to overcome.

Gallows and Anderson better get those titles. Does seem like it'd be a waste to bring them in for an angle with AJ and then nothing. Then again this is WWE so it's possible. Still, New Day have the record now so I won't be surprised if they lose the belts soon.

Gallows and Anderson better get those titles. I'd have New Day retain at SummerSlam, but pretty much only for New Day to hold them a couple more days to make it to a year. After that, have them lose them first Raw after.
