Ok, fellow red-blooded baseball fans; I hereby issue a challenge.
The end of the season is coming up, with the playoffs right behind, and I've had myself a brain-child.
I say we make this a thread where you predict the outcome of the playoffs (who makes it, who wins each round, etc.)...as if you were booking a wrestling show.
...stop laughing.
Fine, maybe I wasn't in a "right frame of mind" when I came up with this, but let's have some fun.
I'll get the ball rolling:
<The scene opens with the Minnesota Twins, represented by a sort of junior heavyweight/Matt Sydal-underdog style wrestler, clinching the American League Wild Card by pinning the reigning World Champion, the Chicago White Sox. The crowd is going wild, completely behind the underdog babyface, thrilled that he's qualified for the round of eight...>
<The lights suddenly go out, as Apotheosis' techno remix of "O, Fortuna" begins to play. The crowd's cheers turn to boos as the much hated New York Yankee makes his way out, proceeded by servants rolling out a red carpet, and girls throwing flower petals before him. He calls for a microphone.>
NYY: <clapping> Good, very good! You really showed the world something out there, kid! You've got spunk, you've got moxie, you've got that "certain somethin'" that gets the kids riled up.
<chants of "***HOLE!" ring out>
NYY: Shut your mouths, simpletons! You know you're just jealous! Now, Twinkie...you've qualified, which means you get to start the tournament against a 9-year reigning AL East Champion. As I have the better record and standing, that means I get to chose when our playoff match begins...<pauses>...how 'bout right now?
<The NYY rushes the ring; what follows is a 15 minute struggle, with the tired, winded Twin doing his damndest to fight the much bigger, strong, fresher NYY. In the end...it's too much. Yankees win, 3 games to 1. NYY leaves the ring, smiling, happy, as if he's accomplished something grand, as the crowd showers him with boos. When the Twin rises, he gets a standing ovation from the appreciative crowd>
--------------------------------------------------
This MIGHT just be the geekiest thing I've ever done...who will join me?!
