At 34 years old, I think Jack Swagger can be saved. In fact, he was getting pretty good pops during his run against Rusev. Almost thought he could be the one to beat him, even though we all kind of knew he wouldn't.
Here's my idea...
Bring an NXT guy up that has been in the minors a bit too long and the company doesn't have high expectations for (someone like Mojo Rawley was...except a heel). Have his debut match be against Swagger with Jack already in the ring when the ring announcer is introducing the debuting call-up. They have a decent match, but Swagger has the upper hand most of the match. To everyone's surprise, he ends up winning with the Swagger Slam (Angle slam) or something new to him that isn't the ankle lock (he can still use it as his submission finisher). The heel goes nuts afterwards and demands a rematch saying he wasnt supposed to lose his debut match. They wrestle again, this time at the next pay per view, and Swagger wins again...pretty decisively.
The debuting heel moves on to his next feud, which he wins, and Swagger continues his winning ways after seemingly finding himself.

They killed Swagger when he didn't Rusev for the US title a few years ago. It was tailor made for him to dethrone Rusev and be that conquering hero.
However, in saying that jack can still get it done. One would assume things would of been different for Jack if he didn't get into outside trouble during his feud with Del Rio for Mania.

I thought this was WWE's remake of Saving Silverman.

Make him a bodyguard or something. Kind of wish he was on Smackdown to team with a heel Ziggler or something.

He should've beaten Rusev at SummerSlam a couple years ago, but even now, he could be saved if they'd just treat him as a threat. There's zero reason not to and the rare times he shows up he is still over.

Swagger should have been Backlund's protege.

Swagger should have been Backlund's protege. Good call, that is exactly what I came in here to post. It just makes more sense all around. "Make Darren Young great again" should have totally been "Make Jack Swagger great again" especially considering his former champ status. WWE, what can you do but scratch your head sometimes at their decisions.

Smackdown should do a trio division instead of a tag team division. I was thinking Shelton Benjmain could round out American Alpha, but with that off the table, Swagger could be their veteran.
