If the hall of fame was ranked in tiers how would you rank them and who would you put in them ranks
Tier 1 is obviously observed for all time greats those who took the sport and brought it to a new height. Obviously the people in here will be Hogan, Rock, Austin
Tier 2 is for those who may not have been as successful as your "number 1" but they were always able to take the number 1 spot and the sport wouldn't of been the same without them. You have people like Macho Man, Bret Hart, HBK, Undertaker so on and so forth
Tier 3 can be a little tricky because these were the people who could of or did have just as much an impact as those in tier 2 but maybe didn't have the longetivity but was always involved and has many highlights in their own right. I look at guys like Jericho, Mysterio, Angle
How you rank your tier is and who you put is all up to your preferences.

Kinda unfair though
Someone like Rock had about 5 fulltime years, while guys like Terry Funk worked maybe 25 (more or less) fulltime years busting their asses, then tell them they're worth less!?

I think the entire idea of tiering the Hall of Fame would be an utter disaster.

So by your classification of Chris Jericho into tier three, would you say he's of roughly equal importance to guys like Rikishi and The Godfather, who sure as hell wouldn't fit into the two higher tiers?

Most importantly, Kurt Angle? Actual gold medalist Kurt Angle? Still to this day in demand by the fans Kurt Angle?

It seems wrong to put anybody in a tier with Hogan. He's peerless, really. Then Austin below him. After that it's hard to judge.

I made a tier list, but only for wrestlers who've won the WWE Championship, up to 1984. Care to see, OP?

The Hall of Fame already has 3 Tiers: Headliner Every Other Wrestler Celebrity Wing They also have the new Legacy Inductees, which really complicates this tier idea. You have guys like Frank Gotch and Strangler Lewis not even getting a "full" induction.

Based on the criteria of the OP, Gorgeous George is Tier 1. The man didn't sell tickets, he sold television sets.

Using the Bill Simmons HOF Pyramid theory to try and rank them:
PANTHEON (the best of the best): Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan, Roddy Piper, Bret Hart, Dusty Rhodes Ric Flair, Steve Austin, Gorgeous George, Shawn Michaels, Mick Foley Bruno Sammartino, Ultimate Warrior, Randy Savage, Lou Thesz
L4 (close to the best, but not quite one of the undeniable all-timers/people who were once at the top, but someone new knocked them back a level).: Antonino Rocca, Jimmy Snuka, Pat Patterson, Vincent J. McMahon, Harley Race Superstar Billy Graham, Jerry Lawler, Edge, Bob Backlund, Kevin Nash, Sting, Terry Funk, Frank Gotch, George Hackenschmidt, Ed "Strangler" Lewis,
L3 (The no-doubt about it HOFers, but not a true all-timer. No former World Champion can drop below L3 unless you have a DAMN good reason for it): Freddie Blassie, Buddy Rogers, Gorilla Monsoon, The Fabulous Moolah, Pedro Morales, Captain Lou Albano, Sgt. Slaughter, Bobby Heenan, The Iron Sheik Eddie Guerrero, Verne Gagne, Mr. Perfect, Nick Bockwinkel, Ricky Steamboat, Antonio Inoki, Mad Dog Vachon, Ron Simmons, Yokozuna, Booker T, Jake Roberts Larry Zybysko, Tatsumi Fujinami, Stan Hansen, The Brisco Brothers, Dory Funk Jr., The Road Warriors, Fritz Von Erich, Kerry Von Erich, Barry Windham, Mildred Burke, Pat O'Connor,
L2 (Top regional stars who never quite were huge names nationally, kind of smaller but somewhat important names): Bobo Brazil, Ernie Ladd, Killer Kowalski, Jesse Ventura, Junkyard Dog, Gene Okerlund The Sheik, Jim Ross, Gordon Solie, Bill Watts, Greg Valentine, Bob Orton Jr. Paul Orndorff, Tony Atlas, Eddie Graham, Rocky Johnson, Howard Finkel, Ted DiBiase, Wendi Richter, Stu Hart, Bob Armstrong, Abdullah the Butcher, Mil Mascaras, Trish Stratus, Lita, Carlos Colon, Razor Ramon, The Valiant Brothers The Blackjacks, The Wild Samoans, Kevin Von Erich, David Von Erich, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, The Fabulous Freebirds, Sailor Art Thomas
L1 (the rest of the Hall of Famers): Arnold Skaaland, Chief Jay Strongbow, James Dudley, George Steele, Ivan Putski The Grand Wizard, Baron Mikel Scicluna, Johnny Rodz, Big John Studd, Don Muraco Tito Santana, Jimmy Hart, Koko B. Ware, Jim Duggan, Sunny, Paul Bearer, Nikolai Volkoff, Sensational Sherri, Mr. Fuji, Peter Maivia Mae Young, Rikishi, Alundra Blayze, The Godfather, Big Boss Man, Jacqueline, The Bushwackers, Mike Von Erich, Chris Von Erich, JJ Dillon, Mike Tyson, Mr.T
Non-Wrestler Wing:
L3 (The top of the non-wrestlers. Had something genuinely memorable not just for celebrity involvement, but as WRESTLING moments. As such, any L3 non-wrestler automatically also goes to L1 HOF):
Mike Tyson, Mr. T.
L2 (celebrities who had at least something particularly memorable and-or made multiple appearances in WWE): Pete Rose, Bob Uecker, Donald Trump, Snoop Dogg
L1 (the rank and file non-wrestlers, celebrities, Warrior Award winners): William Perry, Drew Carey, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Joan Lunden, Connor the Crusher

Tier 1: Hogan, Rock, Austin, Bruno, Gorgeous George, Andre, Piper, Savage, Dusty, Warrior, Flair, Thesz, and Foley.
To get into tier 1 you had to have had crossed over into the mainstream, and those guys did. If you doubt Dusty belonging, just remember that his death on the day of an NBA Finals Game was a major story on ESPN.
