Poor reptile gets jobbed out in his own ending

MK 4 is my favourite MK game. It's aware of how ridiculous it all is, and doesn't take itself too seriously.
I especially love Kai's uber-emo ending.

That's a big reason I love U3 and even Trilogy (on the N64...if the load times weren't so awful on PS1 I'd be fine with that). They know this is all just batshit insane, and if you start digging the insanity just ramps up more.

"YOU*RE SO GAAAAAY" -Jarek I always thought it sounded like he was bellowing "I'm so gaaaaayyyyyyy!!!" as he ran off the cliff. That's actually really dark if taken at face value.

Honestly, Gameplay-wise it's great too and it's a shame that it kind of suffered a reputation as a shitty game because of the cheesy endings. The only thing I dislike about it is introducing Reiko and therefore that stupid "he's totally Shao Kahn, you guys!!" fan theory that's so dumb the developers don't even acknowledge it. Think about it. They made Ermac real, they made Skarlett real, they made the Living Forest Fatality real, they made f'ing Blaze real, but Reiko being Shao Kahn? HA HA no.

I don't remember Ermac ever not being "real" and I don't remember any theory that Reiko was Shao Kahn. All I remember is some cutscene in Deception's Story Mode where Kahn is bitching about Reiko "sneaking into his throne room and wearing his helmet".

Ermac was based off an Error Macro code in the developer screen of MK it was under the Reptile battles on/off screen so people assumed Ermac was another character. and Reiko is Shao Khan wasn't really a fan theory. It was something that Midway pretty much flat out stated in his ending. Midway then backed off that immediately... turning it into a joke that he likes wearing his mask. I played the hell out of Mk4, but it was not good. The overacted cheesiness of it's endings was fine but the gameplay style did not lend itself to 3d at all in my opinion.

Yeah I'm not sure what else we were supposed to make of the Reiko ending. It's a bizarre ending to create if he's not supposed to have some close relation to Shao Kahn. Like either him, a son, a general successor, or something. I remember that from when I was a kid. I was a big fan of MK1-3 but 4 kind of turned me off to the series. I did like the endings in general though, they were funny and weird.

I don't remember Ermac ever not being "real" and I don't remember any theory that Reiko was Shao Kahn. All I remember is some cutscene in Deception's Story Mode where Kahn is bitching about Reiko "sneaking into his throne room and wearing his helmet". Ermac started as a rumoured secret character in the original Mortal Kombat because if you got into some status report screen, it counted a number of "ermacs", and since it was listed right under the line counting battles against Reptiles and the term "ermac" didn't mean anything to most players, people figured it must have been another secret character. People eventually realized that it was actually a portmanteau of "Error Macro", which gave rise to another rumour that such errors caused either Scorpion or Sub-Zero to be red. Midway even joked about it in MK II by inserting a message that was an anagram of "Ermac does not exist" and having Jade occasionally say "Ermac Who?" when she appeared. People still insisted he existed so the developers decided to make him an actual character in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. The Reiko thing was due to his ending in the console versions of MK4 where he teleported to Shao Kahn's throne and Kahn's helmet descended on his head, making many people believe that, despite the fact that they don't have the same physical build, don't have the same abilities, Kahn having no reason to adopt a new identity, Reiko serving under Kahn, them not even being the same species and Ed boon himself confirming that they aren't the same person, they had to be the same person because it's impossible for two different people to wear the same accessory, I guess. In reality, it was just Midway's idea of a joke ending with Reiko taking over Kahn's position, which I guess is still a step up from the ending where apparently he only teleported out with nothing else happening (oh and Reiko himself was only created to fill a slot. Apparently, the developers were originally going to put Noob-Saibot in his place but decided against it due to criticism against MK III for having too many palette-swap ninjas). Afterwards, Midway/Netherrealm Studios just decided to make it Reiko's gimmick that he's a Shao Kahn fanboy and likes to wear his shit and pretend to be him when Kahn isn't around (hence the Deception line and Raiko's redesign being closer to Kahn's armour), making the ending in 4 even sillier in retrospect (and a better joke). It was basically a toungue-in-cheek joke by the developers saying "nope, Reiko isn't Shao Kahn, he's just a pretending weener." TRIVIALITY

The N64 endings are even better, just fuzzy, featureless backgrounds and the aforementioned Reiko ending where the camera pans around him, he runs through an appearing portal, and...that's it, it ends.

I love Sektor's ending. Unabashedly ADORE it. It is the laziest, most awesome thing ever.
A minute of Cyrax's rehashed story and fifteen seconds of Sektor rocking out to MK3 voice clips. Him just awkwardly walking into the room and looking confused is my everything.

I mean Sonya, Jarek and Jax for instance were all the same only cutting out at random points.

From my vantage point, Sonya smacked him with her heaving rack and the suddenness of that wonderful moment caused Jarek to just lose his mind.....and all he could yell was "YOUSADAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY!"
