This isn't some "New ATTITUDE ERA!!" thread or anything, but I'm certain I'm not the only one noticing this.
Words like 'ass', 'damn', 'hell', and 'bitch' are appearing more often; heck, Lesnar even tried to slip a 'shit' past the censors tonight, and they're not even doing the silly 'apologizing and paying a fine for their language' nonsense like they did a couple years back.
There's Enzo & Cass's frequent use of sexual innuendo.
The Club cutting promos made up almost entirely of testicle puns.
Roman basically calling Lana a whore...
Technically, all of these things would stil fall into the PG zone until they actually come out and say the things that they're otherwise just implying now, but it still feels like only yesterday that any one of these things would get cut off mid-sentence by someone going "Ah ah ah, we're PG now, tehehe." How much further do you think they're going to be able to push things before some higher-up goes "Okay, that's too far" and starts reeling them back in? And whose idea was it to relax the reigns a bit in the first place?

You can go pretty damned far with PG.
much farther than most probably expect.
for instance since inception Smackdown has been considered a PG product.

You can get away with plenty with PG, WWE's just largely been spineless and about a soft a PG as you can get away with while being a show about fighting.

They're at about the level of PG the Simpsons were in 1989.

I'm guessing they're letting more stuff fly now that Linda no longer has political aspirations.
Also, HHH once said, around the time of Punk's pipe-bomb promos, if they were ever to build back towards another Attitude Era, it has to be done in baby steps-it needs to be shocking when someone says "ass", and then they build from there.

Movie PG, and TV PG are 2 totally different animals, and many people associate PG with the movie version which is much more restrictive than the TV version.

I like a happy medium.
Loved the Attitude Era when I was in my teens but it hasn't aged well at all. Part of the reason is that the cultural aspects are woefully outdated. The excessive swearing. The nudity. I guess it's the fact that I'm almost 35 but I just don't even talk like that anymore.
On the other hand, using profanity and such where it makes sense storyline-wise is the way to go.

Honestly I have seen movies from nickelodeon that are directed towards kids that have more racier things in it and more innuendos then an episode of raw. Its probably just more noticeable with raw and less subtle then a movie directed towards kids

It has never been the TV rating that has been restricting WWE, as mentioned previously Smackdown has always been TV-PG and in the Attitude era it wasn't that different from Raw content wise.
One of the things that have been holding them back in recent years is appeasing sponsors, the same thing happened in 1995 when they tried to aim at kid/family friendly sponsors.

It's not helping the product at all. Especially Gallows and Anderson's NUTSACK! GET IT?! skits.
I like that at least they can say "I'm gonna kick your ass" because that's just something people say when they're going to fight each other, but anytime they obviously use it for badass cred or to make dick jokes, it's all the cringe.

Now that Vince doesn't go to the shows anymore their trying to appeal to him and he's not very mature in anything other than age.I've been surprised at the lack of farts.

WWE's closer to G than PG. This is probably what I should have said in the OP. Even though WWE constantly referred to themselves as PG, they were treating themselves like they were G with their bans on swearing, blood, sexual comments, etc. (Unless you were The Rock, of course) Now that they've started lightening up on a lot of that stuff, it feels like they're actually PG, and I'm perfectly fine with that.

They censored Brock Lesnar saying he doesn't give a shit about Slater's kids
In a PG movie you can say shit

At one time, Vince thought that PG really meant G and the entire product was 1995 levels of lame. They have thankfully changed that more in the past few years.

I'll be honest that was probably intentional to try and bring back the families and kids. to show a complete break from the attitude era stuff even if they could push the envelope more they didn't so parents would be more inclined to let their children watch it.
