And for those that were watching when Vince wrestled his first matches, did it catch you off guard?
When you think about it, Vince's transition from nebbish pastel suited announcer to Genetic Jackhammer is still one of the craziest transformations in wrestling. As I was firmly in WCW territory at the time, I didn't really see how much of a gradual evolution there was from Rock 'n Wrestling/New Generation McMahon to Mr. McMahon. I can't imagine he just started hitting the gym like crazy after the screwjob, but who knows. I guess a better question might be, when did people realize that Vince was jacked?

First time it was noticeable was the Raw that broke Nitro's winning streak, the Austin-McMahon non-match interrupted by Dude Love

Supposedly he's been doing it since the 80s.

He did an interview with David Letterman in the 80s and he had a LOT of muscle. Letterman even joked something along the lines of "looks like you got some weights for Christmas". I'm guessing he went off steroids for a while in the 90s after the trial and then must've gotten the idea in his head around the time he realized he could be the greatest heel in the history of wrestling.
It's nuts that he got in his most impressive shape in his mid 50s(when he had that match against Steph).

Either that pastel blue suit of his was extraordinarily padded (not unlikely, given it was the '80s) or Vince has always been pretty jacked.

Remember the gym they used to shoot those ICO-PRO commercials?
Vince had that built within Titan Tower in the mid-80s.
One of Dr. George Zahorian's customers from 1984 through 1989 was Vince himself.
Vince was a hoss well before he started wearing more during WWF telecasts than just suits.

I dunno, maybe when he met Linda...
Oh, you meant muscles. Probably the 80s or so.

Clothes can hide or show a lot of one's body. I wouldn't be surprised if he's been jacked for decades but his suits hid it.

Yep, he's been always been jacked, but you never could notice how big he was under those 80's suits. Around the time of the Rock & Wrestling era, he was on some program (probably on MTV) without a suit and he was pretty damn ripped. If I remember correctly, he didn't want to people to see that he was in just as good, or much better, shape than most of the guys on the roster as it would take away from them that the dorky announcer looked like he could kick their asses.

He was always jacked, but in 1998/99 he was obviously on the juice as well, not just in the 80s
