Obviously Roode has got most of the attention from that match, and rightly so, but I've been very impressed with Almas since his debut. I'd never seen his work pre-NXT and his character needs a bit of work but I'm surprised he's not viewed much more highly. I'm a fan

If he just dropped the stripper gear and maybe got some genuinely cool entrance attire, he'd do much better for himself. He's been pretty impressive so far in the ring, but nobody is going to get behind him while he's dressed like he got lost on the way to a bachelorette party.

Ditch the stripper gear, goodness... Him coming out to the ring with a t-shirt is good enough. Dude has a naturally cool and laid back look. Let him roll with that. But yeah, he definitely held his own once the actual match began. I dug the spot where Roode threw him over the second rope and he just rebounded and just casually laid back on the ropes like a hammock.

I saw him prior to Takeover: Dallas and was amazed. Tonight was his best showing and if they could figure out who he is, he'll be a major star.

I'm totally a fan of him, but man he has had the shittiest luck in drawing opponents so far. The NXT audience was ready for Tye Dillinger to take that next step with the talent pool thinning out for now, and Almas beat him twice in 5 days. Crowds were behind Dillinger in both matches. Then Roode comes in with the most hyped entrance theme in forever and a ground swell of people wanting him to do big things. Almas will be fine, but please stop booking him against crowd favorites.

Great wrestler just needs to ditch the suspenders and stupid hat.

He needs better music than that Santana-like abomination.

Eh. I find him pretty blah. But hopefully someday he'll make me appreciate him.

Poor dude has had to fight the 10 chants and Roode's music. Just give him a true heel for godsakes.

He did very well against Roode. He was catching some boos early and turned them into cheers after some of his antics. Most folks wouldn't have managed that. He should do fine in the future.

I guess you could say Cien is believing. You know they lurk and that will end up on a shirt by the next Takeover.

Magical Roode entrance aside...
I think Almas had my favorite spots of the match.
That middle rope reversal was magic, as was his double jump corkscrew plancha

"oh and here wear a hat for no reason that matches your stupid pants and suspenders"
Honestly they should have kept him under the mask for now and marketed him hardcore as a new luchadore.
Yeah, the guy is good looking, but coming in with the reputation of La Sombra, he could have made a bigger impact in NXT I think.
I hope he gets revamped a bit, new ring gear, PLEASE new music, and gets some momentum. He's too good to be treading water.

They didn't take the mask off him, he lost it in Mexico before signing with WWE. the entrance gear is apparently his idea.

On paper, he should've come in as a bigger deal, but Lucha guys in general don't seem to be as well known to American audiences as Indie guys or even puro guys.

But was that at the request of WWE whom he knew wanted to sign him? or was it just a character decision he made prior to WWE. And someone with common sense should be around to tell him "No, None of that is a good idea". I dunno, I think you give him some cool vignettes, and a better outfit, and way better music and he'd at least have a more solid base to land on in his NXT career instead of landing in the water and barely treading. He's like New Apollo Crews.
