SmackDown Live comes to you from the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT, as the WWE has finally left Brooklyn. Following a very eventful SummerSlam, it's only three weeks until the first SmackDown Live only PPV, Backlash, on September 11th, so they have to get going in making matches.
SmackDown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon is reeling after being hit with an F5 by Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam, after Lesnar busted open Randy Orton hardway with his elbows, so badly that it took ten staples to close Orton's wound. Last night on RAW, their commissioner Stephanie McMahon promised that there will be repercussions towards Lesnar, but how seriously do Shane and GM Daniel Bryan take her words? And will Orton be on the show tonight to say anything on the matter? And is there anything to last week's fleeting staredown between Orton and Bray Wyatt?
After just a couple of days, Dean Ambrose is once again the WWE's only major champion on the male side. The Lunatic Fringe defeated Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam, proving that Ziggler's words and promises before the big show were hollow. What's next for Ambrose, and how will Ziggler react to another crushing defeat?
AJ Styles gained arguably the biggest win of his career (depends on how you value his two IWGP Heavyweight Title wins), finally defeating John Cena with no help at SummerSlam after a Styles Clash and a Phenomenal Forearm in a classic match. Cena left his "Never Give Up" armband in the ring after the match, as we believe that might be it for him for a while, as he goes about his various outside projects. For Styles, surely a date with WWE World Champion Dean Ambrose is in his future, but will he make his claim tonight?
After several months away with a broken neck, and fears that she might never return to wrestling, Nikki Bella made a big return to action at SummerSlam, teaming with Alexa Bliss and Natalya to defeat Becky Lynch, Carmella and Naomi. With reports that SmackDown will finally introduce their own Women's Championship soon, the longest reigning Divas Champion is surely in the conversation to be the first to claim the new title. But who will step up to "Nikkisawa"?
The Miz escaped once again with his Intercontinental Title, defeating Apollo Crews to retain the title. Who will be next to challenge the Hollywood Hotshot, and what's next for Crews? And after Sunday's 12 man tag team match, there may be some issues developing between The Usos and American Alpha, with Jey and Jimmy possibly frustrated that they're not the most talked about team on SmackDown Live with Chad Gable and Jason Jordan on the scene. And will Baron Corbin finally get his match with Kalisto?
Find out all this and more tonight from 8/7c on USA!
