I received two Robo calls in the last three days from a phone number located in Deer Park, Washington leaving me voicemails claiming that the IRS is going to sue me and has issued an arrest warrant in my name for "illegal activity" and that I need to call them in order to resolve this issue. A Google search for the number reveals that this is merely a phishing scam as I suspected.
The number was (509) 262-6110 in case anyone here gets a call from these assclowns. However if I am wrong and I end up in jail, I hope FAN Will hold a bake sale in order to raise bail money for me. 😂

God I hate these phone scams. If you know it's the most annoying thing ever, if you don't it could be disastrous.

I hope I get one of these someday, ideally with a human on the other line, just so I can yell SEE YOU IN COURT MOTHERf***ERS and slam the receiver (hit hang up button) really hard.
My mom got suckered in by someone claiming to be calling from Microsoft. She is now officially an old lady.

I got the Microsoft tech support one twice.
Once I handed it off to my "grandson" (my friend who is actually a certified IT Technician)
The other, I strung them along for about 10 minutes before revealing I was using Ubuntu at the time.

Reminds me of that time the police held my laptop hostage and wanted me to pay a fine for visiting illegal websites to unlock it. Because, you know, that's how the police works and if I did visit the kind of website that can get you in legal trouble (i.e.: piracy, credit card theft, terrorism or child pornography) they wouldn't arrest me or anything, no, they'd charge me a small fine and let me use your computer for my nefarious activities again.
And you know it's extra-legit because they don't even use the actual French police logo (presumably because those viruses were made in Magadascar or something by people who don't really know this kind of details) and the fine can be paid through PayPal.

I've gotten the IRS and Microsoft tech support calls many times. I've also gotten the one about winning a random cruise. I love f***ing with these dopes. Anytime I get one of these calls I keep them on the line for at least 20 minutes just messing around with them. Few things in life are as amusing as listening to Indian "Kevin from Microsoft" get more and more angry.

Just give them the number to the Nigerian prince and tell them to work out the details.

Funny enough, I was watching (or listening?) to people messing with the Canada Revenue Agency scams similar to the IRS one a few days ago.

I remember getting a call like this before. I called them and said "I'll talk with them if they knew my name (knowing they would not). After all, they should know the name of who they are suing." They hung up and never called me again.

Hoax Hotel on YouTube is one of my favorite channels. He messes with scammers all the time along with giving details about how "if it's really [X], then they will do/won't do...". On his Twitter account he also RT's any numbers people send him as being scams (and will actually check them himself to confirm they aren't masking their real number with a legit business or if the person tweeting him isn't trolling with someone's personal number or a legit business).

My wife got one of those calls last year. She panicked for a bit until I reminded her that the IRS doesn't call your house to threaten you, they send love letters to threaten you with.

Yeah... I received, almost daily, calls from the "Canadian Revenue Agency" with a similar line. Your typical three or four second delay from picking up the line to them answering, the loud background noise from similar scammers, threats of arrest by the RCMP... owing $1000 plus dollars but they'll knock it down to $300 or so if I pay by Western Union...
DUHHHHH.
Sad thing is that it does get SOME people - particularly by preying on the elderly. Any time these scammers call I try to waste as much of their time as possible before telling them they're terrible people.

I've had this one guy call me every so often, using the same spiel every time. He asks to speak to someone, and when I tell him he's got the wrong number, he says, "Well, maybe with you can help me. I'm X and I'm with X Company, and we...", at which point I usually just hang up on him. The last time, though, I told him that my number is on the Do Not Call registry and that he could kindly go fornicate himself. Haven't heard anything from him since.

Seconding the Hoax Hotel. This is hilarious and it's amazing how quickly they get frustrated. I work at a call center and I get phishing calls too (people trying to get customer's information). One of them got reeeeeeeeally detailed about their private life.

Many scammers get shut down and arrested thanks to them.
