In the wake of Country Grammer? Yes, you do. He released a great album 16 years ago. I don't owe him jack shit. If Nelly wants to come over help me paint my house, move some furniture or donate a kidney should I ever need one in the future, then maybe we can talk. Eh, it's the least most people can do considering those that are bitching still illegally downloaded music. If not from him you did it for SOME artist. Something so simple as streaming a song shouldn't be so much of a big deal.

I don't understand this. Country Grammar is one of the highest selling hip hop albums ever, and Nelly is one of the most successful rappers of the 2000's. I am pretty sure he is worth close to $100 million. So, my point is, I am pretty sure he can pay this easily. Nelly is awesome, and it is cool fans want to help, but I don't think he really needs it. He isn't broke, just the victim of some bad accounting. Out of boredom I just looked it up, and he is listed at 60 Million. Also in August, Country Grammar just got Diamond Status (10 Million albums sold including Physical and Digital). I guess it was due to that commercial that has his song in it. The only other Rap/Hip Hop albums that have done this are: MC Hammer's Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em, 2Pac's Greatest Hits Eminem's The Eminem Show The Notorious B.I.G.'s Life After Death Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP 2Pac's All Eyez on Me OutKast's Speakerboxxx/The Love Below What is even more impressive is that both Pac albums, the Oukast, and the Biggie album are double albums. Those count as 2 albums sold. So, really, Eminem, Nelly, and MC Hammer are the only rappers to sale that much of a single album. But, yea, like I said, Nelly's got this. Nice of fans to want to help, but Nelly is sitting pretty.

For a website that was founded on the quirkiness of wrestling, a lot of people on these boards seem to have sticks up their asses.....
Also they seem to fail mightily at reading comprehension...

If some of you guys can't understand that some people think a campaign to bail out a guy who has made and lost more than any of us ever will and is in trouble for being an irresponsible jackass because we "owe" it to him is ridiculous based on principle, then I have no idea what to tell you. And with that, I'm bowing out of this thread

And with that, I'm bowing out of this thread Nelly didn't lose any money. He is rich as F. This was an expensive error, but not something he can't easily write a check to fix. Also, they are just asking you to stream his songs on streaming sites. Artists get maid a tiny amount for that. The amount of times Nelly would need to streamed tocover this bill is most likely not do-able. It is almost like someone had an idea to do something light hearted to tickle the funny bone of people on the internet. They call those jokes. This is a joke. It was done tongue in cheek.

Even if it wasn't a joke, I'd still donate five bucks to him just for the hell of it.

Weird question when they figured out how many downloads it take to pay his taxes. Did they add in extra downloads to pay for the taxes on the money made from the downloads? Since that's a taxable income.

I just love the "Yo, f*** Nelly for asking us to donate money" when even the title to this thread says "Nelly fans unite". Bit of a hint there.

There's exactly one post in this whole thread that has a poster assuming it was Nelly asking for it. One. That poster admitted he misunderstood in his very next post. Every other "Nay" post has been specifically about the "you owe him" line. Most posts even included that. So where's the reading comprehension issue at?

I'm in on streaming some Nelly. Even his terrible Suite/Sweat CDs brought me a lot of laughs back in the day from cracking on him with my friends. I don't know how many times me and my buddy mocked Tim McGraw's portion of that "Over and Over Again" song. The outrage on the first page is also good for a few laughs. Granted the "you owe him" line from the author was dumb, but acting like helping out a celebrity in financial trouble is some kind of insane deed... I don't know what to tell you. I'm streaming Spotify with the sound off while I'm doing other things... I'm hardly breaking my back here. Aww, Sweat/Suit was my favorite Nelly album(s).

I just thought the post saying it was amusing. Sorry.

Update:
(Radio.com) The #SaveNelly movement is gaining momentum. When word of his $2.4 million tax debt reached fans, they conspired to restore his finances by streaming "Hot in Herre" hundreds of millions of times. Now late-night hosts are joining the effort: Stephen Colbert performed "Debt in Herre," a helpful guide for financial solvency, while James Corden made gratuitous use of "Hot in Herre" on his show so Nelly'd get a cut of the royalties.
Colbert's advice (cleared through his accountant, Wendy) included writing off clothing purchased for work, stopping IOUs, and more. On The Late Late Show, Corden installed a button that played "Hot in Herre" on demand, costing the production $6,000 each time he pressed it. We're not sure how much of that will go directly to Nelly, but fans can (and probably will) do the math.
