"You owe him"
Nelly’s music provided the summer anthems and prom soundtracks of the early-aughts, perhaps most memorably with bangers like “Hot in Herre” and “Ride Wit Me,” but it looks like the artist’s songs could also be the solution to his major financial woes.
Following unsubstantiated reports by TMZ that the Country Grammar rapper owes a large sum to the IRS, Spin came up with a clever way to rally behind him; writer Brian Josephs proposed that fans stream “Hot in Herre” at least a collective 287,176,547 times so that Nelly could earn a sizable Spotify payout.
According to the streaming service the payout for artists “per stream” averages between $0.006 and $0.0084, which means that if Nelly lands on the minimum end of the scale, he would need 402,880,500 streams to earn enough to significantly decrease the alleged debt.
This proposition inspired the hashtag #SaveNelly, with fans sharing the lengths they were willing to go to support Cornell. If anything, this tells us that the love for Nelly is still going strong.
Yea, and it hasn't been officially announced that he owes money, but I'm sure he does. I'm just shocked that a writer suggested this and it went viral. Nelly may be the only artist to make a lot of money from streaming music at this rate.

I am honestly thinking of contributing to this. Nelly is effing awesome. I love his sing-songy style of rapping and everything he's done to represent and give back to St. Louis.
Yes, we DO owe him.

Jesus, people are f***ing ridiculous I'm ridiculous because I want to support someone I'm a fan of? He OWES money blowing the millions that his fans made him. It's on him to pay it back. Being a fan doesn't mean he should be immune to life's laws.

My point is that it's ridiculous to suggest that people "owe" anything to a rapper who made millions and squandered it away like a jackass to the point where they were unable to keep up with adult responsibilities.

One of these days I have to research how big stars get into tax trouble. Are there various reasons? Is it just that they didn't want to pay the big sum that April? Because, like when someone wins a million dollars, they get all of that million dollars, and it's not until the next January-April where they have to pay almost half of it to Irwin. But until then, they're sitting on a cool mil, and I would guess it would be easy to lose your head and spend a giant chunk of it. Is that how most people get into tax trouble, or are there other reasons perhaps?

I remember his tune with Tim McGraw. No thanks. That song was awesome. Maybe the one McGraw song I could get into. I believe you. That said, the dude squandered away more money than I'll ever see. I, nor anyone else should feel responsible for getting this formerly rich dude more money. This isn't much different than Kanye campaigning for a billion from Facebook founder Zuckerberg, and it was lame even then. Put out more music, hope people like it and hope it sells concert tickets and merch, like every other struggling artist. I'm more likely to purposely stream indie artists in hope of earning them $.04 or purchase their EP from Bandcamp to help them produce more music than Nelly, no matter how cool his music was to me when I was twelve.
